I booked this tour with Grave line for my husband's birthday because he loves true crime, and it ended up being the perfect gift! Our guide, Ansley, was respectful, knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly. She really brought the stories to life and made everyone feel comfortable asking questions. The vintage funeral car was such a cool and fitting touch for the Manson Family Murders Tour (and the main reason why I booked the tour). About 80% of the experience was spent in the car, which was cozy and gave us plenty of time to soak in the history while listening to music from the era. Including Manson, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles, to name a few. We also made three stops along the way to get out, take photos, and see key locations up close. As a mortician, the experience carried an extra layer of meaning. I actually helped funeral direct the service for the LaBiancas' granddaughter (who had the same fate as her grandparents). So hearing and seeing this history firsthand felt deeply personal and surreal. If you're into true crime or Los Angeles history, this tour is an absolute must. Just for context, I was a successful tour guide in Chicago for over 16 years. Four of those years I was an owner/operator. I think this is important information because when I write a review of a tour - any tour - I take into account both sides of the event. I want to start with the customer service element of Grave Line Tours. Adam - who was my point of contact months before the tour - days before the tour - days immediately following the tour was is the gold standard for tour operators. He was efficient and kind and patient. When you are dealing with people who are not from where you are and don't necessarily know things like geography and good places to eat in the vicinity of the tour, a kind and patient operator removes all the stress from the trip. One the day of the tour, we were met by Blaze our tour guide/driver/story-teller. We got into the limo and off we went. Blaze navigated that limo through the streets of LA like it was a Ford Fiesta. Her driving was smooth and comfortable. When we got in the limo - she gave us a QR code to scan to get some actual crime scene photos as well as photos of places that we would see and get a chance to photograph. She intercut her narration with tracks of music or interviews and other bits that gave the stories an extra dimension. She drove through the LA traffic and shared these stories in a voice that was equal parts teacher and dramatist. My daughter - who lives in LA - remarked more than once that the way the tour was designed - was brilliant - the way it wound through the neighborhoods in a way that served the stories - keeping them compelling. One of highlights of the tour was a distant - but clear - view of the home built on the land where the Tate home once stood. We saw it from across a canyon which gave it a cinematic aura. I don't think we would have benefited by going any closer - the view was stunning as it was. I think - for me - the highlight of the trip was the lunch stop. We pulled into a crowded parking lot and Blaze parked next to a place called The Munch Box. This bright yellow hot dog stand is where Charles Manson is rumored to eat his "Western with Relish" while he waited for Sexy Sadie (Susan Atkins) to get off of from her job at the Candy Cat. It was a messy lunch - but a filling one and there is a rock on one wall that appears to have "Charlie was here" carved into it. History and the internet are at odds about Manson's diet and his time at The Munch Box - but Blaze is such a natural storyteller - she could have said Elvis ate there with Jim Morrison and I would have believed her. She made that 20-minute lunch break electric and exciting as we stuffed the chili dogs dripping with relish into our faces. We made to our point of origin after listening to Manson Family music on spotify and learning the end of the story for the family. I was surprised to learn that some were still alive. It's hard to fathom the events of those nights was only 56 years ago and some of those people involved still walk among us. Grave Line Tours combines five-star customer service on the backend - with a peerless tour in a comfortable limo with a small group of enthusiasts. This kind of service and tour will engender loyalty with travelers who return to LA. They have other tours which sound intriguing and - you can bet - I'll be back in one of their limos next time I'm in LA. [Note: The tour starts at 10:00 a.m. It sounds a bit off putting to being seeing these things and hearing these stories on a Saturday morning, but if it was later in the day the traffic would have made the trip uncomfortable and about three more hours. Also seeing things like the Spahn Ranch and the Tate house would have been impossible in the dark. It's not for everyone - but it was a great father daughter outing on a Saturday morning in LA.] read more

THIS. WAS. EPIC!!!! If you like true crime (and maybe even if you don't!) you absolutely cannot go wrong with Grave Line Tours! I had the most fun I've had in ages as Blaze drove us all over town giving us a riveting account of the life, legend, and death of LA's infamous Black Dahlia. Blaze, in her British accent, wordsmith delivery, and witty humor made the trip all it was. An air freshener of Michael Meyers swung in devilish delicious detail from the rear view mirror of the funeral limo. A ghoulish soundtrack ripe with - among others - the theme from Twin Peaks, was a nice intermission as we hopped on the freeway for a quick spell. (Chef's kiss!) I have organized 15 events for my Kooky Adventure MeetUp group, and this is my top fave so far (for this Adventure I had a competition for the best "Tourist Outfit" and had Blaze be the judge). Their refund policy and lack of consideration for our inconvenience are truly unfair. We had planned this tour meticulously, spending nearly $200 and leaving home 2.5 hours in advance. However, we couldn't predict the unpredictable Los Angeles traffic, and we arrived 10 minutes late. When we called Blaze, he advised us to contact Adam. Adam simply read the policy without any empathy or understanding. I didn't care for a refund, but it would have been appreciated if you had shown more consideration for your customers and treated them fairly. I wasn't looking for a refund (I repeat myself once again) just because we were late by 10 minutes, we lost money, time and the tour on my birthday, which I expressed this to Adam. All I received was a call from Adam reading his policy. I hope you'll reconsider your policy and allow customers to reschedule their tours. We genuinely want to take the tour, it's not the refund we were seeking. The best part is after expressing all this he still wished me a great rest of my birthday. We had a remarkable tour of the murder sites of the rich and famous. Some made famous by their murders. The charming Blaze with their pink hair drove that big old (refurbished) limousine (Hearst) all over Hollywood and West Hollywood (no easy task if you know the neighborhood) with the finesse of a New York cab driver while entertaining us with all the gory details. I highly recommend this tour. I also recommend Blaze who is funny and smart. I gave one less star than was merited by our tour guide, because my butt was cramping from the seat. No way did seven Americans, with our fat behinds, fit in comfortably. read more

I must admit, going into this tour I thought I knew everything I needed to know about Charles Manson and Family. Boy was I wrong. First off, parking was super easy and locating our tour guide once we arrived was easy as well. Our guide, Adam, introduced himself and talked to each one of us individually. He asked questions to get to know us, and by the end of the tour it felt like we had been friends for years. Throughout the tour, we stopped at several spots, and at the risk of giving too much away I won't go into more detail about that. Adam was very knowledgeable about the subject. There was a story that was told throughout the drive, and each story led to a different stop. We were given access to photos on our phones to follow along with as well. The tour is long, it was about 3 1/2 hours long with a pretty good break in between. I feel like even though it was a 3 1/2 hour tour there wasn't a minute not full of information. Adam is a great narrator and a great storyteller and awesome at engaging with us. You can tell Adam is very passionate about what he does and this tour did not seem exploitative, which was something I was worried about. It was very much informative. We will be booking more tours. And we will request Adam, even though I know he usually handles the "business side" of things. The tour began at 10 AM and we had enough time afterwards to visit a few more places in Hollywood as well as grab an early dinner and be home at a reasonable time. This was one of the coolest tours I've been on! I went with a couple of friends as our annual spooky season activity and it did not disappoint. Adam was our tour guide and super informative. I also liked the website he had, so we could follow along as he drove us around. It went into detail about the murders, suspects, and gruesome photos. I was 14 when the murders happened. I was on the edges of some of the events that led up to what happened. There were many people that were affected by everything that happened. I was concerned that the tour would be spectacular and maybe too Hollywood like the latest movie. Our tour guide Ansley was so respectful of those that lost their lives and also those that were left behind too pick up the pieces. Ansley made sure she let us know what was fact and what was speculation. Though no one in my group was old enough to have lived through the murders they all knew a lot about the history. Manson Family Grave Line Tour When looking at reviews on Tripadvisor about the Manson Family Grave Line Tour I have to admit I was a little skeptical that there were 52 "Excellent" reviews and nothing else. However, once we took the tour with the amazing Blaze I realized why. She is phenomenal. Interesting, knowledgeable, considerate are but a few of her qualities. The instructions for the meeting place were great and it was very easy to find. The tour is in a late 1980s limo funeral car. We were the only two on our tour so we were able to have more in-depth conversations with Blaze. If you have a question she'll most likely have the answer. Sights included the Whiskey Au Go Go, Jay Sebring' hair salon (Sharon Tate's hair stylist who was murdered with her), El Coyote, parts of Beverly Hills and a drive out to Cielo Drive to the Tate mansion. You cannot go up the drive because it is gated. But Blaze drove us up the other side of the canyon and we had a bird's eye view of the Tate mansion. We had about a 20-minute drive to what is left of Spahn's Movie Ranch. Also, got out to see a hotdog stand that Manson frequented while waiting for a hooker from an establishment across the street which he frequented. He engraved his name into the wall (which is still there!) Towards the end of the tour, we drove to Los Feliz and to Waverley Drive where the La Bianca's lived. Blaze's storytelling all along the way were so informative and raised many questions which we discussed. Truly a "must do" if you take a trip to L.A. We booked our tour for a Monday, so we suspected it might be calmer than a weekend tour option, and we were right! We were lucky enough to have a private tour, but the maximum amount the restored Cadillac Fleetwood can carry is only eight, so regardless, you will have an intimate tour experience. We received detailed instructions on where to meet our tour guide in Hollywood, and we were quickly off to the limousine, which greeted us with the moniker "We Put Death on the Map" and a license plate that reads YODO - you only die once. We actually thought that the limo is what made the tour memorable and more immersive--probably even more so for the cases that aren't as old as the Elizabeth Short case. When you get settled in, they give you a QR code to scan to access an organized website of the locations you'll be visiting that have drop downs with relevant images, some quite gruesome. I really like the option that you can take or leave this addition depending on what feels right for you! We then proceeded to visit some of The Dahlia's final known locations and really got to know the suspects surrounding her death. Our tour guide was Blaze, and as we all know, it's really the guide that makes a tour memorable and unforgettable. Blaze does just that, excellently blending the seriousness of the subject matter with the darkly macabre sense of humor that fans of horror really appreciate. This tour includes some iconic locations throughout Hollywood and Downtown LA, such as Boardner's, the Cecil Hotel, and the Murder House. The price point is very comparable, if not actually much lower for the intimacy and immersion that you get, to other tours available in Los Angeles. They also run promotions from time to time as well, so make sure to follow their socials. Our tour was right around three hours and jam-packed with information, the ability to ask questions, and the chance to truly tailor the experience to your interests. I went on a really fun tour with some friends with our tour guide, Blaze. She was so fun. That fact that she is British adds even more glamour to this historical tour. We got to ride in a vintage Cadillac limo. It was grabbing lots of attention. We got to see a lot of sights: The Black Dalhia apartment window, the Menedez Brothers murder house, Marilyn Monroe's suite at Roosevelt hotel and Natalie Wood's old house. If I could give the them 10 stars I would! This was such an amazing learning experience. I've never rode in a vintage funeral limo, and it was so comfortable, the seats, the head rests, and the ac was going and keeping us cooled down. It was so nice getting to take a scenic route across town and learning about one the Manson Family Murders. Me and my partner have always been fascinated about this case, and thought we knew all there was to know, and we were so pleasantly shocked to learn so many details. Adam was our tour guide for the day, and it was so nice finally seeing an owner who loves what he does. I'm so used to spooky businesses just doing something to capitalize on the horror communities love for anything dark and macabre, but he was so knowledgeable, kind, professional, and you can tell he genuinely wanted everyone to have a great experience! We had two other "mourners", (as they call the riders in the limo), and they were tourists from Switzerland, and they taught us so much as well. It was such a beautiful time, the weather was perfect, and even though it was 3 hours long (you drive to so many sites, and across so many cities), it went by so fast, and we wish it never ended. My fav part of the day was our rest stop/lunch break, where we stopped at the Munch Box, which was Charlie Manson's fav hot dog spot. I got his fav hot dog, it's a chili dog with onions and ketchup, and it was delicious! For a small business, they really go above and beyond to make this fun for everyone. I love they have a scan code that includes crime scene photos (they're blurred out and you have to click them to see them, so if you don't want to, you're not forced to), and case details and fun facts that you can follow along the tour stops with.
