The male employee walked away from us and wouldn't even turn around to acknowledge us. When we asked to taste the products, we were told we had to place an order and pay before we could sample anything. What made the experience even more frustrating was watching a new customer walk in and immediately receive samples without ordering or paying first. The inconsistency and blatant double standard were shocking. We left feeling extremely disappointed and frustrated. This experience completely ruined our night, and based on the service we received, I would not recommend this place.

Truly exceptional gelato in Hampstead…read more We walked the 10 minutes into Hampstead to get dessert here several times during a week we were staying nearby and it was worth it. The kids got a variety of different flavors, but the dark chocolate gelato is in the running for the best gelato I've ever had.

The cafe was quirky and homely but as it was rammed, we sat outside. The staff were friendly as they took our order. We had the full English - £8, the Istanbul express - £7.50 and a freshly squeezed orange juice - £2.50. If you're wondering what the Istanbul express was, here you go: sausage, halloumi, salad, mushrooms, poached egg and sourdough bread. And let me tell you, it was lovely! I was very impressed with the place for its locality, great staff and lovely food. I definitely recommend! Maybe make a day of it and go for a walk around the newly opened East Reservoir walk (Woodberry Wetlands) which was unveiled to the public at the end of April by the one and only, David Attenborough ;)

However the lack of English removed me from the familiarity of London to Saigon.... I spotted fresh meat and fish being sold but I prefer my meat to be packed and chilled from a supermarket aisle... But I did notice various Vietnamese groceries and some Chinese/Thai lines as well along with an assortment of fresh but unidentifiable vegetables. Probably I was not looking hard enough I could not find my favourite iced coffee. It's like a strong sweetened espresso ideal for warm days but when you need a caffeine fix!

As well as just about every type of fresh, dried and frozen Vietnamese and Asian foodstuff, Star Night stocks real Thai Red Bull, rice cookers, lacquer bowls, giant drums of vegetable oil, fireworks, TVs, fairly convincing wads of fake Thai baht and hundred dollar bills and, bizarrely of all, a fridge full of sandwiches. Who in their right minds goes to a Thai supermarket to buy a cheese sandwich? If you get lost among the rice paper and pestle & mortar sets, don't expect to be helped by the staff. There's a universal lack of Engl(r)ish speakers. Overall, you can't argue with what's offered at Star Night, but I usually head for the smaller and friendlier Le Mi up the street.

For me, Broadway Market is ridiculously OTT and too trendy for it's own good. It'd be so easy to go minimalist. Bags of organic oats at £8 a pop, Aduki beans for little Casper or Konrad. HHmm, you get my thinking? But instead, it's a straight up and honest venture. Quite a small premises so their shelves are absolutely stacked. Rather than a tea-centric shop, it's more of a place where you can find lots of variety with customizing your tea or coffee. There are also different takes on tea like chocolate milk tea or honey peach fruit tea. Definitely interesting, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea.
