Hayward is nicely remodeled and decorated. There are bar seats, booth seats, table seat and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is surrounded by lush green plants. There is a tasting menu for $98, but the items are undisclosed, left to the chef to chose so I didn't go with this and ordered a la carte. The bread is served warm, soft, oiled, so good. So good that I ordered a 2nd piece. Probably best bread I've had. The food is good. I wish they had more red meat options though. The cod is probably the best entree item from a consensus. They also have the cutest match boxes. Portions are on the small end. Street parking.

Service was outstanding- warm friendly greeting, they offered to take our coats, we were seated right away, great suggestions for drinks, and food was delivered in a cadence that didn't feel rushed, but didn't feel like you were waiting long either. We enjoyed some dishes more than others, but overall the food was really delicious. The stand-outs were some of the dishes we didn't catch the names, but the cod was well liked and so was the steak. Parking was a little hard due to the Christmas lights at the park across the street. This was almost an hour drive for us and it was worth it. We would recommend and look forward to going back to Hayward.

The birdhouses in particular were absolutely lovely and added so much charm to the space. The tasting room takes walk-ins, and were greeted as soon as we entered and told we could sit anywhere. Our sommelier was absolutely delightful-- there were two women working and both were so, so friendly and made us feel very welcome. We tasted one white (a Chardonnay that I actually quite liked despite it being my least favorite white wine) and a number of reds. When they poured the various pinot noirs, they brought a second glass and had us do a side-by-side comparison. I absolutely LOVE it when tasting rooms make the effort to do this-- it really brings us the differences in the wines so you can tell what you're trying. We also tasted a red blend and a syrah. The syrah was my favorite. In the midst of us tasting the reds, the women pouring for us brought out a couple of chocolate hearts, which was really the cherry (or the chocolate) on top. It's been hard in the past couple of years to find people that offer such a wonderful experience at this price point ($20)-- especially if you're a younger person. I can truly say that this was wonderful, and we will absolutely return next time we are in the Valley.

However service was very slow as it appears it was only one server and the other was the bartender but would help out occasionally. Food also took a while to come out and were served our main courses before our appetizer and salad. I also felt like the prices were quite expensive for a small town like Carlton. For food we ordered the renegade potato's, a house salad, French toast and the biscuit and gravy. The renegade potato's were so good! Nice crispy potato with a spicy aioli! The house salad was a little disappointing. It was pretty but it didn't have the seasonal fruit that I was looking forward to. French toast was decent; a nice crispy brioche French toast with what appears to be a homemade blueberry jam. But this didn't wow me as much as I thought it would. The biscuits and gravy was interesting though and almost tastes like a spicy sausage gravy. If you're in the area, I would definitely check this place out! But if not, it probably isn't worth the drive.

Thankfully, we made a Heritage Room reservation and were able to enjoy the outdoors under some umbrella shade. Two of us a wine tasting, 1 grabbed a glass of red, and the other was there for company and some N/A musings. We also had the charcuterie board and cookies, both of which were good overall. I absolutely adore this spot for having N/A options which on this day was an orange creamsicle inspired slush. Service was really accommodating...since I can be quite the slow sipper at times. They definitely did not make us feel rushed. This is such a picturesque spot and I couldn't help but adore the giant tree with the tire swing in the middle. People were absolutely trekking across the lawn to enjoy it. This is a rather family friendly winery and there were tons of families, a bridal shower, and just folks enjoying the day. High high points for an inclusive space. Check it out if you're looking for a cute winery to enjoy!
