What a wonderful stop…read more We were visiting Shakespeare's birthplace, and after enriching our minds we definitely needed a drink. Without hesitation our guide immediately recommended the Old Thatch Tavern. First of all, it is centrally located and easy to find. Once there you're taking by the decor and homely feeling. The staff were amazing. I wasn't drinking hard liquor and they guided me through a variety of Apple ciders that were delightful. They made the entire experience 1000% better. Their advice and knowledge really made the stop one of the best drinking experiences we had in England. Little by little more members of our crew continues showing up and eventually we had a full blown part going. Again, it was a blast! I can't wait to go again, make a stop at the Old Thatch Tavern and relive some of the memories.

Had a lovely visit to Stratford-upon-Avon for my birthday…read more This pub looked lovely from the outside and we headed straight there after our delicious meal in a nearby restaurant. It was 10.25 on Wednesday evening, February 25th, but we were turned away by the young barman, as he said he had already called last orders and wasn't letting anybody else in. Now, my husband and I were very disappointed, as everywhere else in the town had been so welcoming and accommodating. We walked across the road and had a few drinks in another bar, as there are plenty of nice places to choose from, BUT, if I was the owner of this establishment, I would not be best pleased at young bar staff turning my customers away. That is a lot of revenue to lose over the year if this is happening every night, especially with the cost of living at its current high and the daily struggle that pubs face to stay profitable!! Maybe a bit of staff re-training wouldn't go amiss and a reminder of who pays the wages!!

Sadly the Swan has gone downhill... I've been here several before and it was always delicious…read more Now, it's mediocre and feels like a soulless chain. Here's what we experienced: - no one greeting guests - tables with uncleared plates of half eaten food and dirty glasses - disinterested staff - cheap paper menus with stains, curling edges - mediocre food with low quality ingredients - once we were served our food, we didn't interact with our waitress again until we finally had to flag her down to get our check - humid atmosphere with a fish smell Ugh.

Great location in the center of Cheltenham Town for drinks and excellent food!! I've come in here…read moremany times over the years when visiting, as the location is really convenient and a great meeting spot. The great elegant English bar always impresses me with large shiny taps, proper glassware and lots of beers on tap. The food is always great here with a wide variety of items available. This time around I went with a couple of classics I usually can't find in the States; Scotch Eggs followed by a Steak and Ale Pie!!! The scotch eggs, which have undergone somewhat of a rebirth recently, we're absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly!!!! My pie was good but not great, served with fat chips (fries), peas & carrots, the crust was slightly overdone and on the dry side, although the tasty gravy helped with that. A few great local beers and some valuable time spent with friends and family made this, and most experiences at Copa, 5 Stars!!

Loxley's is an outstanding restaurant in the heart of Stratford on Avon…read more They specialize in European modern cuisine. Our party of six was easily accommodated in their upstairs dining rooms on a Thursday evening around 8:00pm. We made a reservation on open table earlier in the day. Our server was Meghan who was cheerfully warm, welcoming and quite knowledgeable about the menu. Meghan made excellent menu suggestions. Loxley's also has a gluten free and a dairy free version of their current menu so special orders are simple. We started out with a charcuterie sampler that was full of delectable treats. I enjoyed the mushroom risotto and added some tiger prawns. Others in our party enjoyed the pork belly, duck and cod dishes. All delicious and artfully prepared. Of course Loxley's has a wide assortment of beers, wines and cocktails to enjoy with your dinner. If you are looking for less touristy fine dining in Stratford on Avon you will find it here. Double highly recommend.

After being disappointed in Chipping Norton, I decided to head into the country seeking a quiet pub…read morefor lunch. This place was absolutely what I was looking for. The ambiance was exactly what you'd expect in a quiet inn in the countryside. Exposed beams and stone, a big hearth fireplace, clean tables, floors, bar area and restrooms. The service was attentive, but not overly so. I ordered quickly and the food was well timed. I had the fish and chips, which honestly had a bit too much batter for my taste, but the batter was so good, that didn't matter at all. The chips were perfect, and the peas were the perfect compliment. It is clear this is a local gathering spot. By the time I had finished, the bar area had filled with locals catching up and having a good time with each other. If you're touring the Cotswold's and in need of a perfect pub lunch, this place is it. Don't bother with trying to park or navigate the scaffolding of Chipping Norton. Head to the Chequers. There is a good selection of beer and ale on tap and a full wine list, with by the glass, carafe and bottle options. We noted that Sheep has a sister restaurant across the street (The Porch House) under the same ownership and during the time of our visit the menu was virtually identical so do your homework before choosing.
