If you are anything like my sister, the thought of buying second-hand designer bags isn't unusual. Copping that Hermes Birkin is a dream and if you aren't Jinkie Pacquiao, the best way to get one is thru second hand shops. But buying used items, however expensive their original prices are, can be tricky. Of course since these purchases aren't brand new, sometimes you can get your dream bag but not in mint condition.
Enter Vintage Restore - a specialty shop that expertly restores designer bags back to their original glory. I believe they used to be an online shop that eventually grew into having a place on their own. And now, they've even branched out to three different locations, if I'm not mistaken.
I got a chance to check out Vintage Restore when my sister sold her old Louis Vuitton bag to my sister-in-law. For an incredibly low price of P5,000, my sister-in-law got one of her dream bags. But because it has been used for quite a while, there were damages on the handle. The skin of the leather was already falling off and the zipper was broken.
My sister-in-law, with me in tow, took her LV to Vintage Restore in White Plains, QC. They studied the bag, diagnosed it (like it was a baby, lmao) and then gave her the lowdown on what it will take to bring it back to life. I was shocked to hear that they will be repairing the bag for 3 to 4 weeks! But the lady explained the lengths at which they will be fixing the "damages". My sister-in-law was sold but honestly, I was skeptical.
Fast-forward to 4 weeks after and my sister-in-law vibes us her newly restored bag. It looked completely brand new, as if it wasn't second-hand at all. Even my sister who sold the bag was impressed. The stitching was done well and the replacement for the zipper was a replica of the original. Amazing!
So if you are looking for a place to restore your designer bags without compromising its original look, I say head on to Vintage Restore. A visit is definitely worth it! read more
