My 1973 Moto Guzzi Eldorado was in need of a complete brake job. I do much of the work on my bike but when it comes to brakes, I wanted an experienced mechanic to do the job. After back-and-forth email communication with Denis at Vintage Monkey I decided this was the place to take my Guzzi. Denis did a great job on my bike. Disclaimer: I'm not a biker. But no matter, this shop is a gem for all! The owner Shasta was ever so welcoming, and I could sense the passion for her craft immediately. The floor has a mixture of beautifully restored bikes and project bikes. It feels like a motorcycle museum! The front room has an array of interesting items for rituals and other practices. They did some awesome work on my bike and were super reasonable

Wow this place blows my mind! My boo-thang and I stopped in when we were passing their store and were completely blown away. You can't miss the white-painted brick with a huge "Motorcycle Parking" sign on the side of their building. The Vintage Monkey is filled with loads of amazing trinkets and pieces that catch your eye. They have old motorcycles for display as part of their history museum with little notes about each bike and why that particular one is unique and special. I love the thought that went into designing this place, every item was hand picked and you can tell that they put a lot of love into this baby. When we came in we were immediately greeted by one of the owners, Shasta. She is amazing inside and out. She is inspiring to say the least. This is one badass chick who is passionate about motorcycles. She gave us some insight on their journey to this new location and what they plan on doing with the place. So far they have their motorcycle repair shop on one side of the store and on the other side is their motorcycle museum and motorcycle merchandise you can purchase like shirts, jackets etc. Shasta told us about this big bar/seating area she's trying to incorporate so that people are always welcome after a long ride and hopefully groups will start or end their rides here. I love her passion for the motorcycle community and what she has done so far has been remarkable. We keep popping in here and there to see how it coming along. I don't ride yet but I love being on the back of a bike and I'm super excited for their new renovations. This place is a special little slice of heaven. Absolutely gets the embers going for those who are into vintage, especially British, motorcycles. I'm talking BSA, Norton, Triumph, Royal Enfield... that Steve McQueen, Barbour jacket, jumping over the barbed wire fence stuff that just hits you right where it makes the heart thump in your throat. Came here for the Triumph Bobber Black & Speedmaster launch event. Met some cool people, got to oggle and try out some amazing bikes. Checked out the workshop. Even got to meet the guys from Triumph and chat a little with them. As a self-confessed motorcycle fangirl, who's been lusting after a proper British motorcycle for years, getting to be around people who understand this crazy fascination was just a dream come true. I can't think of anywhere else in town I could where I could speak to someone in their 60s who's riding around on an original Honda CB750 from the 1970s, and then turn around to have another conversation with a guy in his 20s who's building a rat bike out of scrap parts he found on Craigslist. I got my first bike ('82 Kawi KZ750) in October, a few weeks before VM opened their doors and unfortunately came upon a decent but altogether lackluster mechanic that didn't know and actively hated on my bike. After paying for him to go back into the same part he couldn't fix over 3 times, I thought their just HAD to be a mechanic in town that knew--and loved--classic motorcycles. Sometime in late November or early December I happened to see the huge mural to my left driving down 16th from my old job. On a whim I looked up the name on the wall and dialed the number. I spoke to Denis and it was obvious this was the mechanic I had hoped was in Sacramento. As soon as I told him what bike I had he told me he rode a friend's once and loved my bike and always wish he had one of his own. He has given so much time and attention to detail to my bike and that motor spins like a damn top now. We have a few more things to do and in all honesty the thing that excites me the most about receiving my paycheck is the knowledge that I can have Denis get me one step closer to making my Café Kawi vision a high-revving, low-end torque reality closing in in your rearview mirror. His depth and breadth of knowledge of classic bikes could fill volumes. Most mechanics out there shoot at mechanical problems with a shotgun; Denis is packing a sniper rifle. Is it a motorcycle shop? It it an event space? Is it just a cool and quirky place to visit? It's all of the above and then some. Owner Shasta and company have done a fantastic job of turning this multi-faceted venue into one of Sacramento's newest hotspots. I came down for a friend's birthday party. I know next to nothing about motorcycles except the basic of how to ride one so I wasn't sure initially what I was in for. Turns out the bike shop and the venue itself are next to each other and my fears of balancing a cocktail on someone's expensive hog were unfounded. It is a very cool layout nevertheless. There is a large circular bar area in the middle that is perfect for large groups. I could even envision my band playing in the center someday. There are a number of classic/custom bikes on display on the back wall with a little about what makes them important. It's a fun tour. I could see any kind of event going down here, from a casual mixer to a wedding. I've always been surprised at the limited options for event spaces in Sactown. Now that I know Vintage Monkey is out there, I can put those fears to rest. And if I buy a motorcycle someday and need it repaired, I know where to do that, too. read more

This place and its owner are a gem. It was the best value with all of the amenities that we found near downtown Sacramento. All of our guests commented on how nice of a venue it was and everyone had a great time. Shasta was great, responsive, helpful and followed up as expected. What a fun little spot in the heart of downtown. I just happened upon this gem while out for a ride. I was greeted by a lovely woman who introduced herself as the owner. She walked me around and gave me a bit of history of the building and her background. She introduced me to their head mechanic who obviously loves his job by the excitement on his face while we spoke about bikes and our love for antiques. The location was great and the decor was awesome and it was definitely a cool place for a work event however the only draw back is the bathroom situation. There were only two single bathrooms which is already an issue when you're having a large party and the bathrooms are right next to the stage where the band played so it was a bit awkward seeing a large line right next to the band and the speakers. Other than that it's a cool venue and the round bar it's a really good idea because it does help the food lines move a bit faster when there is a large party. read more
