This little Greek deli is a foodie's delight!…read more Pop through the narrow doorway and be greeted by refrigerated cabinets loaded with huge rounds, chunks and wedges of cheese from all over the world. Fill your crackers with taleggio, Greek kefalotyri, buffalo, one-year-old grana padano, goat's cheese, New Zealand tasty, gruyére, Dutch gouda, Tasmanian Heritage Blue Opal and Castello. I've stocked up for ladies' wine and cheese nights here - and no matter how many rounds I buy, it pretty much always disappears before I can even refill their glasses. The chilli buffalo cheese in particular is fantastic! Keep moving beyond the cheese cabinet and you'll find containers full of different types of olives and meat products like salami. Towards the back of the shop, there are shelves full of deli goods, such as beans and seeds. Take a culinary travel trip and fill up the shopping basket with all kinds of goodies. This family-owned deli has been around for decades and is an institution in these parts. The traditional background music alone will get you in the mood for Greek feasting!

Walk on through the dark and tiny doorway and a very long store packed from floor to ceiling emerges. There's endless cheese, including huge slabs of haloumi ready to slice and throw on your next BBQ (I drizzle mine with olive oil, lime juice and chilli) and a number of different fetas along with cheese form other parts of the world. The olive section is out of this world and also features crazy pickled items. It's a DIY affair so grab a tub and fill it up with whatever you like. There's tins of beans, breads, frozen filo pastry and a hundred other items. You can get just about anything here to create a big Mediterranean feast, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg! The older Greek couple who own this store have been here forever... well, for at least the last 10 or so years that I've been visiting. They're kind and helpful and always willing to offer advice on items or, if you're lucky as I was recently, give you a chunk of halva to nibble on!

Fed 2 easily for $27, that's a bargain these days. Plenty of pizzas to choose from and more substantial meals if you feel like something heavier for lunch. While you're there you must go to the 3rd floor emporium and buy their Burrata (10/10). Best in the world.

That is to say, their new emporium is showcasing work they have been doing since 1962, it's just that you'd never have known about it as a member of the public. (post script I am informed that they also have a place in Haberfield, Thankyou Andrew O. ) Opening in March this year, it was not until I read the online page "I love the Inner West", that I'd realised it had finally opened after driving past it almost every day. You catch a lift to the third level in order to get in, and, to be honest I had thought it was going to be a lot bigger inside. Similar to Salt meats cheese, but it was a humble yet somehow perfect size after all. Every thing from Nona's home made tomato sauce, through to croatian hot sauce, condiments for sushi, a Wall of hams. A WALL! a full deli with specialty cured meats, and a fully fledged cheese room. They have Foie Gras, and also my heart. There is also an entire fridge dedicated to their own brand of cheeses, and includes Burrata which is a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is also defined by some sources as an outer shell of mozzarella filled with butter or a mixture of butter and sugar. It is usually served fresh, at room temperature. The name "burrata" means "buttered" in Italian. Put that on your Bruschetta and go straight to heaven. The current special is 1kg of Buffallo Mozzarella for $20. Which I would have bought if I had a huge Italian family to feed or a special occasion, but I grabbed the small one for $7. This seems very reasonably priced. There are sit down tables inside where you can order from the hot food selections. Vego lasagna for $8 a massive portion, beef lasagna, eggplant stuffed with couscous, and Cannelloni and other pastas with their wonderful cheese on top. I read that they are opening a cafe on the ground floor in a few weeks, which will do well to give them a bit more presence, since you cant simply walk off the street straight into the emporium. Parking in the back of the building is helpful, as this part of Marrickville road can be a nightmare to find a park at the best of times. If you love your cheese and your charcuterie, pop in during the week they are open 8am - 5pm. Stock up on some cheese dreams.

I love this place! Okay so it's not gonna be the best Reuben you've ever tasted, but it's so so so…read moreclose. Everything here is like 95% as good as you would find it back in the states. So if you're like me and have lived in Sydney for a while, this place is a godsend. They have both east coast and west coast reubens, onion rings, buffalo wings, thick shakes, actual delicious bbq sauce, just about everything you miss. And on top of it all, the staff/owner here is so nice! They served me my hot chocolate and accidentally spilt a bit onto the saucer, and they quickly apologized and replaced the saucer, before my brain even registered what happened. Love! Anyways, this is a great place for any American cafe nostalgia.

Like, really hard...for some reason, there's been an uptick of Reuben sandwiches being offered in Sydney that aren't Reuben sandwiches at all. Just because you use corned beef on a sandwich, it doesn't make it a Reuben. If you use beef brisket and sauerkraut on a sandwich and call it a Reuben, you're full of crap...looking at you Copper Mill. A classic Reuben is a hot sandwich composed of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian or Thousand Island dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread. It originated in, you guessed it, America... Anyway, Reuben Republic started off as a food stall and then morphed into this brick and mortar shop. It's good too, as the sandwich is pretty legit. You can order an east coast or west coast Reuben (get the east) and you can get pastrami or corned beef. I personally prefer pastrami so I went with that. If you're hungry get the Massive Reuben (off the not-so-secret-menu) which is double portions of meat...my only gripe with this is there should be more sauce on it, but if you just ask for it they'll provide you some on the side. Service is top notch, and they have other offerings like shakes and salads. I would definitely come back, as it's been the most legit Reuben I've had in Sydney since Ruby & Rach is no longer around.

Forget "sandwiches", this place makes sandwizes because the guy that runs this place is a wizard!…read moreHe knows his flavours, he knows his breads (which he collects at 4AM every morning), and him and his staff go above and beyond to look after the customer. We drove past this place one afternoon and the wife and I knew we had to eat here. We found street parking and made our way over. From the outside the red neon sign gave a very strong impression. Inside it was a little bit dull but that doesn't matter when you start to read the menu board. All the menu items suggest bold American flavours. Choose your filling, bread (sourdough or rye) and whether you want it fresh or toasted. I was worried about my sandwich being toast until I was told that they'd add the lettuce afterwards to prevent it from wilting. The food came out quick. My wife asked for soy milk in her coffee which they had run out of. However one of the staff went to the corner store, JUST FOR US, to buy a new carton. I was amazed by this. This truly was a selfless act and to me it defined what great customer service is. Our food came out quickly and tasted amazing. I ordered the hoagie sandwich. I know in The States a hoagie is this massive bread roll sandwich thing, but this being Australia they brought out a toasted sandwich which tasted just like a hoagie. Perfect down to the last bite. The staff are great company and extremely friendly. I want... nay, NEED to come back here to try some of the other sandwiches. A great place for a meal which isn't too heavy but will leave you thoroughly satisfied.
