    Chocolate lava cake
    Jennifer S.

Small-plate tapas-style dining, plus traditional size mains. Large wife and cocktail selection. Two of us shared a small salad, bruschetta with sun-dried tomatoes, brie, and prosciutto, smoked lamb and thyme croquettes, garlic prawns, and chocolate lava cake with passionfruit ice cream. Bruschetta, prawns, and croquettes all came with four pieces plus microgreens. All were nicely cooked. The croquettes were at once crispy and creamy. The salad was a good value. The cake plate was garnished with three small does of raspberry sauce and I would have preferred more. I love passionfruit but wasn't sure how I would like it married with chocolate - I needn't have worried, it was a lovely combo. We didn't have a reservation but were seated instantly at 545pm at the one empty table on a winter Friday evening. They even had a high chair for our toddler. I enjoyed a sparkling Sauvignon Blanc that was tasty but lost its bubbles quickly while we were waiting for our food. The Moscow mule was nice and limey without overpowering ginger beer. I'd knock a portion of a star off for a few things: - in winter, the tables next to the door can be chilly - Moscow Mule served in a glass, not a copper mule cup - longish wait for our food, but understandable on a hopping Friday evening which would perhaps round to 4.5 stars.

Service and environment 5 stars Food 3.5 stars The fig salad I ordered was really oily. And there wasn't enough lettuce! It was mostly toppings instead of salad (so I guess you get your money's worth?). The prosciutto bruschetta was amazing though--probably the best part of my meal. It was refreshing! The Apple crumble cheesecake was also surprisingly delicious!! Overall, it was an average experience...not anything to write home about.

Chock full of tapas, mains, and concoctions!!

Excellent venue for a lazy afternoon after hiking to Huka Falls, the Huka Honey Hive, and wandering the Saturday morning markets and art show!! Service with a Kiwi smile helps add to the ambiance!

We were really looking forward to checking this place out. Walked by several times in the couple of days we were in Taupo. Checked it out on Yelp ( of course). All the making for a great foodie experience... Wrong. Sat outside on a beautiful summer night. Our waiter was obviously New. That's ok if you at least put a little effort in serving your customer... we had one drink and one tapas in 1 1/2 hours. Water filled once after requesting it. It is a holiday weekend but they weren't even that busy. By the time we left it was mostly empty. Ended up cancelling the rest of our order after nothing coming for almost one hour. People next to us came after and had food delivered before we finally left. So very disappointed. I'm sure the food is good. Very sad to not get to try the dishes we ordered. So bummed.

We wound up at Vine for a late night dinner. We got some drinks and then ate the French onion soup and a Caesar salad. Both were amazingly delicious!

Great food to split between friends! We ordered the potatoes bravas, mussels in a cream sauce, fish soup, bruschetta, garlic butter shrimp, green beans sautéed with almonds, and portobello mushrooms with macadamia nuts. I recommend any of these I mention.

    Portuguese cream with mulled plums

Excellent small plates/tapas options. Everything was fabulous. We had the fig & walnut salad, the scallop &a chorizo risotto, the green beans, and the garlic mashed potatoes. The Hawke's Bay Kingston Cider is also quite good and recommended. For desert we had the Portuguese cream with mulled plums.

Chocolate & Caramel Lava Cake and Belgian Chocolate Torte. Yum!

However, even for a non-specific Wednesday night, the dining area was nearly full at 7:00 pm. We had a drink at The Keg Room (both establishments are connected) before heading over to The Eatery for our dinner. The ambiance is casual, comfortable but nice. The Keg Room has dark walls, metal kegs lining one wall, multiple TV screens showing sports. There are high stool seats, lower leather seating and a couple of booths inside. There is limited outdoor seating as well. When we went, there was a combo of adult groups and also people there with children. The Eatery is slightly fancier, but still appropriate to wear casual attire. There are black beaded chandeliers, a gas fireplace and a couple of iron shelves filled with wood logs. There appeared to be a sectioned of area that could be used for a private party. We had a bottle of wine and I was happy with the wine selections. There were plenty of NZ wines but also a good selections of Italian wines. We had the Quota 29 primitivo. We weren't disappointed. We started with spicy Italian pork sausages. These were very tasty, not *too* spicy and served with cooked onions, tomatoes and kalamata olives. It was really great. We also shared one of the side salads to start - arugula/rocket, pears and candied walnuts. It was nicely dressed, light and delicious. I had the suprema pizza for my main - it had arugula/rocket, pine nuts and prosciutto. What I really loved is that the crust was not too thin/crispy but not so think that it was like a grease sponge. It was very reminiscent of pizzas that I had while traveling in Italy. I wasn't sure what I'd think about the pine nuts, but they ended up being a nice touch. The pizza was fairly sizable, and I ended up eating about half and taking the rest home. My husband had the Maltagliati, all'amatriciana (spicy, hand-pulled pasta with bacon). He asked for it to be "extra spicy," and they did spice it up. I tasted it and it was on the verge of too spicy for me, but that is just how he likes it. We finished with tiramisu, which was very nice, but I'm not sure that it was really stand-out compared to others. All in all, we had a great evening and felt the drive from the CBD was well worth it (all 15 minutes). It is rather unassuming from the outside, nestled inside a strip mall type of setting. There is plenty of parking. We will definitely go back.

Waitress used the old "oh, its to stop people sitting on their phones" excuse which I found insulting since I just wanted to google something in our conversation, not sit on my phone and I don't have a New Zealand SIM as I'm on holiday. Just be honest and say "We are too stingy to share with paying customers or too lazy to change the password periodically. A good idea would be to call the SSID 'office' instead of 'Gintrap'........and also put a cell blocker if you are all so concerned about people using their phones since locals were using their phones all around us. One of the three ladies who were serving, with short hair and glasses has no peripheral vision, we were waving our arms 10degrees from her 12 o'clock, we thought she saw as she looked, then she walked towards us ...... then over to other people, plus failed to hear. Anyway, the food made up for the poor service, the food is actually a five if they just fire all the idiot women who are serving and hire people who belong in the restaurant and service industry as none of the three floundering around me and my mum did. Seafood soup was perfect, prawn salad was amazing. I loved the mushroom risotto balls even though they were a bit too salty. Bravo chef, boo to the three waitresses and manager/owner for the service and lack of WiFi. That alone made us move on immediately after our meal so you missed out on 6 beers just because of petty stingyness; think about that; as that is more than the cost of unlimited Internet at your prices. So, if you negate the stingy minded manager who doesn't want to upgrade to an unlimited package or whatever; and fire the idiots for incompetency and replace them with good staff, this place would be a 5 with it's perfect Napier marina location and great food.

I noticed that most places in central shopping area are closed from coffee shops to restaurants no later than 5-6pm!. Other than the food court at the end of tutenekai street which is called "eat street", I was looking for places that opened late besides McDonald's. This place near my hotel is called "Turkish Eatery," this place focuses on Turkish dishes and it's menu also consists of burgers and combos. My favorite have consistently been the Iskender Combo. Pick your meat, either chicken or lamb and it comes with Some kind of Jasmine rice brushed with butter (its so good!), also comes with veggies like lettuce, red/white cabbage, and carrots all topped with 2 sauces of your choosing mayo/aioli/tomato/garlic, etc. oh and that's not all, the meal comes with Chips (aka French fries) and a canned drink of your choice. With just the combo and without eating the fries, it's a healthy choice and keeps you full. You actually don't need to eat the fries (chips) lol. The owner was very friendly, the place is clean, consisted of only just 5 tables and walls decorated with A map of the world, people who are here get to plant a pin on the map. Seeing O'ahu, Hawaii wasn't taken, guess I'll be the first and the first to add this business since I couldn't find it on Yelp.
