Great, ornate window displays and a plethora of books, Enable is the diamond in the rough of the George/Aungier street charity shops. I got a few great records here about a year back and kept returning as they have probably the strongest selection of cds out of all Dublin's charity shops. Loads of women's clothes, but fellas, not so much.

They're fantastic because not only are they color-coordinated, but they give some really amazing ideas of the kind of fashionable ensembles that you can put together from items at a charity shop. That, my friends, is an art. The fact that every Enable Ireland window looks so great makes me think they might have a full-time creative director on their side. Kudos to this genius, whoever they may be. Anyway, inside the merchandise isn't quite as impressive, but given the window's dose of inspiration it's not terribly difficult to find something that'll do. They sell clothes for men, women and children and all of the prices are fantastic. Oh and they have a really awesome selection of books that are sooo cheap. I couldn't believe some of the finds there, and am currently building a library purely from Enable Ireland!

Filled with cutesy clothes, jewellery, accessories, children's toys, old books and the like, Lucy's Lounge is a perfect portal for mid-afternoon shopping heaven. Who knows what precious knick knacks you'll come across in this tiny basement? The shopkeeper is fitted out in an intriguing blend of the shop's wares, intricately done up in shawl, flowery hat, old fashioned dress and a mish-mash of accessories. She is a cross between Mary Poppins and the 'feed the birds' woman, and she is lovely lovely lovely! There are some exquisite discoveries to be made by whoever has the patience to sift through the wares in this store. Whether you're on the hunt for a vintage dress, a tacky 80s fluoro ski jacket, a pair of dainty gloves or a funky wall hanging, this place is worth a look! Beware: this shop is only open Thur - Sat 1pm - 6pm and Sun 3pm - 6pm. Time your trip accordingly!

Here is another one of those Tardis-style shops that look small on the street and seem to go on and on forever once inside. TGS definitely had the most diverse offering on display, with clothes and books kept to the front, furniture and handbags on the next level up, and childrens toys (some of which were still in the box) at the very back. As always the prices were encouraging -most of the childrens' goods were about €1, while skirts and trousers came in around the €5 / €10 mark. It was bright, it was busy and there was plenty to choose from. Whom ever this shop is supporting, I'm delighted to help out!

I've never gone here to shop but I have donated stuff…read more Nothing better than clearing the wardrobe... I need to let go of the student clothes... I need to let go. Regardless of the elated feeling you get when you part with clothes or items that you have no need for anymore, it has to be said the absolute joy and gratitude that I received for that donation was so worth it. I'm hooked now, I did another drop off this morning - soon I will be naked.

There's lots of fur, 80s style bomber jackets and jumpers, dresses, bags and plenty of denim. They don't (yet) have a changing room and the light is more decorative than revealing so do keep that in mind. The outfit you buy may look very different in broad day light. I was told that they'll get 'new' stock every week so hopefully they'll do something about the (lack of) light situation soon and I'd be a regular in here.

What we have here however is a much more slapdash and sporty collection as opposed to the more 'classic silk dresses that feature the same flower-patterned design as seen on your grandmother's old apron but in this context looks chic and unexpectedly fashionable' look found in abundance in other eminent Temple Bar vintage outlets such as Lucy's Lounge. In fact, what am I saying, Eager Beaver isn't vintage at all, it is the definitive retro retreat. In point of fact, I stand corrected again as it's not even a 'retreat' - no that's far too subtle a word - it is in truth a big, slapdash retro bonanza! Does that communicate the zealousness I feel towards this shop enough for you? Untailored, informal retro is the name of the game here with a couple of clothes racks packed solely with 70's Adidas track-suit jackets, denim jackets, Led Zeppelin tees, Stan Smith trainers, Nike 1970s Elite pumps with a sweet nylon upper, waffle sole and old school colourway and even Puma trackie bottoms - see what I mean about the large array of sportswear. The Oxfam Ireland on Georges Street is well-organized and has some great buys. I'm not just saying…read morethat because it's a charity shop and it deserves your money. A lot of trendy kids come here looking for vintage and second-hand clothes. Oxfam doesn't always deliver but it's worth having a look because every once and a while you'll walk out with an original piece that costs peanuts. An interesting thing about this place is that on occasion it sells low cost wedding ware. The wedding dresses are for the most part (95% of the time) new and are donated by designers or retailers. Sometimes, people bring in their dresses after their wedding day. Of course, this Oxfam accepts other clothes as well. People who are interested in giving away casual attire can drop down their old stuff, but the items need to be cleaned first.

They didn't have the item either, but they had some really cute, curated pieces of great designers. They were happy to send me to a competitors storefront as I continued my "scavenger hunt" for this piece... even though they weren't profiting off of it. I ended up purchasing an item from them anyway (because it was so fun and I also really appreciated the assistance). Reasonable costs and the pieces looked well taken care of. When I'm in Ireland in future, I will definitely visit again!
