I am now pretty shaken about the exchange I had. You can judge for yourself if you want her for your CPA. I tried to delete my review, but I was met with an error message. To be clear, I never asked her for a refund for what I paid her for her services. I never said quoting a price was illegal. I'm not sure why she said that, honestly. I think people that receive a service should be paid in full, which I did. I wasn't trying to skirt out of any payment. I was going to edit my entire review. We're now left with very little time to find a replacement and we'll probably lose a lot of money as a result of this surprise from them. Facts: we agreed to work together at the start of this year. They shared a portal for us to upload docs into. It took us a few weeks to get started uploading those docs but we're still within their purported time-frame in mid-February. We had some access issues that, for myself, they fixed; that was not fixed for my wife and we had to bug them several times in the last week before our scheduled tax prep meeting. They then reached out to me, saying that they can no longer work with us and that they'll delete all the files I uploaded to their vault. When I asked them why, they did not respond.

We have used BOL for two years and decided after last year it wasn't for us. The next year we were essentially assigned to someone else because who we saw previously was no longer accepting new clients...but we weren't new. Reaching whoever they assign you to work with is nearly impossible. After an initial apt weeks went by for very basic things and I was calling or emailing every few days in a panic as the deadline to file quickly approached. Eventually an extension had to be requested when all needed documents had been completed in Feb. The back and forth email and call correspondence was time consuming and ridiculous. We kept having to reach out to check the status and after weeks would get a response to schedule yet another appointment. Not personable, not friendly, poor communication. They likely take on too many clients because they care about profit over people.

Sadly, this place of business has really gone downhill. I am a client of 10 + years, I have in the…read morepast brought my complex taxes to them and they have been clever and quick. They are no longer either. In addition, they make calculation errors, trigger audits, pressure clients to file extensions, and then literally forget about filing. Then, when the IRS dings the client for not being timely due to this Liberty Taxes' errors, pressure to file extensions instead of file on time, and forgetfulness, LT doesn't take responsibility. This client has had to pay thousands of dollars more to the IRS due to LT calculation errors. In addition, I am being penalized by the IRS for nearly $30,000 for being late. Why have I continued with LT? Because I trusted they would right their wrong. But this year, they again made a filing error. They simply didn't read an email this client wrote on April 11 in which a direction was given to pay the IRS through this client's bank account on April 15. They ignored the direction, and expected me to pay by mail. Unfortunately, this client thought LT had followed through, so the IRS didn't get paid for 5 days. So that is another ding, another penalty. The 3rd penalty in 3 out of 4 tax years. Whoa. Today, I went in to sign an appeal letter to the IRS for the tax year I am being audited. The letter was written by AI. You guessed it, Liberty Tax was no where on the page. They left out how Liberty Tax had made a calculation error which triggered the audit in the first place. When I said I couldn't sign my name to a letter that wasn't entirely truthful, the LT guys questioned me, interrupted me, scoffed at me, literally turned their back on me, they wouldn't make eye contact. Intimidating. Rude. When that didn't work and I still refused to sign my name to this letter of appeal to the IRS to correct their wrong doing, they sent me away. "Do it yourself". Now I have to hire a tax attorney. That will be even more expensive. What a nightmare. I encourage folks to pause and think carefully before entrusting this Liberty Tax with your money. Take care.
