Located off the…read morebeaten path, Bixby isn't a place you're going to stumble upon, but when you do you'll love it. The entry is located toward the back of a large brick building. You may think you're going too far, but keep going. There is a sign above the doorway and a sandwich board to help get you there. As you get near the place the smell of chocolate fills the air. Once inside the door it's like you're surrounded by a big chocolate hug. Inside the door there are a number of shelves on your right with pre-packaged Bixby products, ready for purchase. Chocolates and bonbons and toffees of various flavors and varieties, as well as peanut brittles in a surprising number of flavors. Further into the establishment you're presented with displays of various items for sale. It's not just a retail store, but it's also the Bixby Chocolate factory, where their confectionary delights come to life. The day of our visit there was no activity other than retails sales. After a couple samples I came home with a large bag of chili beer peanut brittle. I know it sounds complicated, but it is AWESOME. The staff at Bixby knows their product. Got a question? Any staff member can assist with any of your questions. Need to purchase something and have it shipped? No problem at all! They ship anywhere! Bixby is a destination, to be sure, but it's well worth the effort to find it.

I wanted to check this place out because I but their product at my local supermarket and thought it would be a fun thing on our vacation. The service was nice and product selection was ok. Prices were a bit high in my opinion as the same pkg I get at the supermarket is $1.50 cheaper. We got a few different items to try, the peanut butter lobster (like a Reeses pumpkin size) $5 and literally flavorless. A hint of a peanut butter after taste, same with their PB/choc fudge. Zero flavor there as well. The toffee was very good as was the white chocolate bonbon. The vibe is what you'd expect for being inside a warehouse. I'm going to stick to buying from the super market.

This is run by a couple, who according to the owner Patrick (who was manning the store when we were there) they aren't artists themselves, but they seek out artists from all over. There is a wide selection of art from sun catchers made of wrapped colored stones, and paintings on wood to vegan leather purses and wood turned pens. We stopped here and purchased a painting my partner wanted and then returned to pick up my purse before returning to the shuttle bus. I just couldn't leave without buying it. I'm sure if we had more time, we would have spent more. Bar Harbor has lots of tourist stuff. If you are looking for that special item to take home, check this place out.
