ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE TREATMENT I JUST RECEIVED !!!!!!
I went to Vin Bon on Toryyork to see if they had sulphite free wine and Mary provided the most despicable service EVER. I'm not sure if her name was Marie or Mary but this all happened around 2:15pm on April 28, 2020
I walked in and she told me only one person at a time so I proceeded to wait outside and told her I had a quick question.
ME: "Do you sell sulphite free wine?" Mary: "No we don't sell wine."
ME: "Not at all?"
MARY: "No...you can go to another location"
I went back to my car extremely confused and called my grandfather who just purchased wine from this exact location last week. He literally screamed and said that's where he has been going for years and I was at the right place. I then went back in to the store.
ME: "I have my grandfather on the phone and he said this is the right place"
MARY: "What's your grandfathers name? "
ME: * A_______*****
MARY: What is his last name ?
ME: "P******"
MARY: "ok ya we do sell wine...I lied
ME: "why did you lie?"
MARY: "Because the way you look"
ME: " Me, really?"
MARY: " I don't know...you might have been a cop"
ME: Even if I was a cop, why can't I buy wine here?"
MARY: "no....that's not the reason"
ME: "so clearly ...its a racial thing"
And I stormed out
I am absolutely disgusted and disappoined at the treatment I received from Mary.
1) Mary had no right to refuse me as a customer. I followed her instructions when she said 1 client at a time obeying the COVID safety procedures
2) Since when does Vin Bon verify people's first and last names before deciding to provide service???? That is NOT a requirement
3) I am deeply offended by the clear act of racial prejudice. As a 33 year old woman of mixed race it sickens me to be treated this way. This is clear cut discrimination and was confirmed by Mary herself when she said "because of the way you look". People like Mary should NOT be providing any type of in person service to the public.
This was a horrific portrayal of institutionalized racism fortified by extreme elitist behaviour from Mary. Her comments shocked me and thus has been negatively been impacting me since.
4) the fact that she refused service because she thought I was a cop gives me the impression that she has something to hide or worry about.
To resolve this problem I would appreciate your HR department to immediately investigate Mary's performance and recollection of this particular situation, and to handle accordingly. I don't believe I that this situation truly represents the attitude of Canadian citizenship promoting 'Diversity and Inclusion'.
I refuse to support such a business and hope that no one else has to ever experience something like this ever again. read more
