How is it that I just recently learned that Daphne has an actual beach? It's kind of hidden. You can get here by taking the walking trail from Village Point Park, or taking the boardwalks from Bay Front Park. There's a large pier for fishing, or you can fish from the beach. There are usually people flying kites, playing frisbee, walking, and playing in the sand. The sand isn't the pristine white Gulf of Mexico beach sand, but it's not as dark as Cocoa Beach or Del Mar Beach either. This beach is on the murky waters of the Mobile Bay, so I don't know that I would swim. I love gators, but I don't care to be their lunch. There are no rules against swimming in it if you're brave. It's also pet friendly, but I don't know that I would take Jazzy during the warmer months for the same reason. Today we saw a couple of guys para surfing, which looked like it would be a lot of fun. It was certainly fun to watch. I can see myself laying on this beach for a tan or sitting on one of the benches reading a good book while my boys fish. It's nice to have a local beach 10 minutes from home for the days I don't feel like driving down to the Gulf and competing with tourists for a spot in the sand.

A perfect place to watch the sunset. Plenty of park benches. Of course you can always bring a blanket and sit on the sand. It actually about a 3-5 minute walk from the parking lot. Could be longer if you stop to observe any of the local wildlife. The beware of alligators and snakes sign is no joke. We watched a little fella swim around when we were walking across the boardwalk. Fun to watch but made me realize I was in his house and needed to stay on the path.

Great park with well maintained trails. Home to the famous Jackson's Oak. In addition, there is a very old graveyard and a nature walk. A full circle of the trials is equivalent to around 2 miles. The boardwalk is currently closed.

The vegetation is too thick and dense to enter on Harbor Bluff unless you have a machete. The entrance in Village Point Park Preserve is more walkable with no hassles. Walk down the pedestrian only road in Village Point Park Preserve, within a quarter of a mile, there will be an unmarked trail on the right, the boardwalk may be slightly visible through the trees. a brisk, quick walk to this tree and bing, you are at the Jackson Oak. I don't understand why this tree has no historical marker, this tree was a between 300-500 years old. Great for kids, great for dogs, there are also various trails throughout the park. There is also an older cemetery in this park, a short walk away.

The area itself has seen better days with old picnic tables, over-growth and the boardwalk around the tree in need of cleanup and some attention. There once was an information button to press to get info about the tree but it does not work. I am hoping the city and mayor will invest in a little TLC for this walking path and area and spruce it up. It has so much potential to be a great outdoor resource for locals and tourists alike.
