Main grassy area

A tiny corner park in Los Altos with benches, great grass and redwood trees. Discovered it while walking my dogs around LA. Yes you can hear the cars in San Antonio but in this little oasis, it's calm, birds sing and the traffic seems muted. Four benches are widely separated and perfect for social distancing!

On the corner of North San Antonio and West Edith Ave in downtown Los Altos, there is a small landscaped area called Village Park. It has three patches of lush grassy lawns, several pathways, conjuncting in the middle, with four wooden benches along the way, one picnic table with the fire pit, and five more wooden benches, seating on a paved area facing the corner of San Antonio and W Edith. Village Park is well maintained and cared for, it is very peaceful and looks underutilized - I'm yet to see that BBQ pit in use. There are also two art sculptures. One abstract installation at the center of the grassy green that looks like some kind of colorful fire flames to me, topping four metal polls; untitled. Another is a more classical bronze grouping of five children in active poses, titled Olympic Wannabes by Glenna Goodacre. It's a gift to the community, as the nearby metal plaque explains, with funds raised by Los Altos cultural association, installed in the summer of 2000. The park is located across West Edith Ave from the Four-Main business building housing Packard, Packard & Johnson, Gard & Kaslow MicroUnity, Horizon Ventures, The Pratt Center, Three Bell Capital. On the intersection, there is Enchanté Boutique hotel across the Main street, and Los Altos city hall, civic center, and public library complex across the San Antonio Rd. A small luxury condo complex is seating behind the park on a lower slope. Some of the trees in the far north east corner were donated by Mr & Mrs Robert Lee, Charles Neales, MD, and Steven L. Shepherd, according to the plaque installed on a rock. There are several garbage collectors on sanded pathways and on each corner, and a drinking fountain at the San Antonio corner. Parks hours are 6 AM through 9 PM daily. Dogs must be on leash and no alcohol allowed.

Cute, clean, peaceful. A couple of nice sculptures ornate this little urban park. Is perfect for a quick stroll and spend some time reading and meditating. Nothing for children to plsy, perfect little quaint park for adults.

That particular round trip is probably less than 2.5 miles round trip, mostly flat, and much of it you have a choice of walking on paved roads/trails so good for strollers. The farm is open until 4pm most days, but be aware this is not a petting zoo, you just get to see the sheep, goats, pigs, cows, rabbits, ducks etc. Still fun for kids, my son loved it when he was little. My favorite hike is to go past the farm and then take the Wildcat Loop trip, you get some great views from up there, that's about 4.5 miles round trip from parking lot with some elevation gain. Our new favorite trail is the Mora Trail which branches off before you get to the farm and goes up to beautiful open vistas. Parking - very hard to find parking on weekend mornings and early afternoons. And don't park illegally, they will ticket you. Trails past the farm tend to be much less used.

I'm a beginner hiker so it's challenging enough to give me a workout. Most of the trail is exposed with greenery around but could be hot in the Summer. There's an educational center with farm animals (goats, huge pigs, cows) and a volunteer supported garden, Deer Hollow Farm. It's open to public most of the week. There's also a historic cabin built in the 1850's preserved and look like a small museum that showcases what life may have been like back then. There's a permanent restroom at the parking lot. Along the trail, there's also a smaller porta potty type but permanent restroom. Plenty of parking.

What I like: Free entry, huge free parking lot, and bathrooms. You can keep it simple with a walk or bike ride on the trails, or make it more of an activity day with the lake. The lake is manmade and they have a boathouse where you can rent equipment. Sailing, paddle boating, that kind of vibe. I've also seen the boathouse area used for group events, so it's good for a casual outing or even something organized. A few practical notes: It's mostly flat, which is great, but there's very little shade, so if it's sunny bring water and plan accordingly. Weekends can get crowded, especially when the weather is good. Overall, it's a clean, convenient park with enough variety that you can keep coming back and not get bored.

Unfortunately, the Rengstorff House just closed when we arrived. We were able to walk around and check out the lake and some of the other areas though.
