Charges and billing ins all messed up. Husband and I were seen same day had the same things treated. Paid our copays the same day and they continue to bill us for my Copay and not his. My charges to ins. were billed as a surgery which amounts to a lot more than his. Seen in December but still receiving $25.00 bill in April. We have called and mailed proof . I have been a patient here for a few years now. I've come to see Dr. Fenning for botox. She has always been a great doctor. She's pretty conservative and careful with how many units she has given me so I usually know what to expect when I come here. The facility itself is pretty big, and they have their beauty product storefront in the lower level. The one part I don't like about this place is the issues I have when they are calculating your bill. I've had mishaps on my bill every time I have gone. I'm usually able to catch it there is a mistake, but on one visit I did not and had to contact their help center. They were very nice about it and credited my account. But the next time I came, it was not automatically applied to my bill. So I have about $12 in credit left here according to my Klarna account so hopefully it can be applied on my next visit. read more

The people here are so nice. But I've been here a few times over the years to take advantage of the walk in Botox clinics, but I never have great results. The last time I went for tox I ended up having to go back a couple weeks later because my eyebrows were crooked. I had a different person try and correct it but it still wasn't great. I went in for Botox around my eye area. Dr. Katherine Fening came into the room and started marking my eye and forehead area from a previous visit. She then started jabbing the areas. When I asked about additional filler in another area she simply said I would have to make another appointment. She was in and out in about 3 to 5 minutes total. No kidding. 4 days later my eyelids are heavily hooded! Having had Botox before I was very disappointed with her bedside manner and the results. Botox injections do not hurt when they are administered correctly. I have had this many times and this was by far the worst result ever! When I went to pay for the service with my Care Credit Card the receptionist took the care and then after about 5 minutes of staring at the computer said it was declined. She called someone else over and they began discussing my declined care in front of other patients. Finally they told me that I could submit another form of payment or call Care Credit. I used another card and left very embarrassed. When I got home I called Care Credit and was told my card was fine. It had a zero balance. So I am left with heavily hooded eyes which looks so bad. Save yourself some time and dignity to get the beautiful results you are paying for by going somewhere else. read more

I saw Dr Curl about six weeks ago for my annual skin cancer check. She saw a mole that I have never noticed and biopsied it. The path report came back as atypical cells. She removed the mole and placed stitches, etc. Dr Curl's nurse (sorry that I forgot her name) was very professional and went above and beyond to reassure me and went out of her way to explain the entire process to me to put me at ease. The stitches were removed a couple of days ago and all is well. I was treated with ultimate respect and the whole process was nothing short of excellent. I would recommend Village Dermatology. My husband also gets his annual skin cancer checks at Village Dermatology. Dr Curl biopsied a suspicious spot on his face which turned out to be basal cell skin cancer. We have both been very satisfied with our experiences here. read more

Dr. Cherry is one of the few physicians i've been to where she really listens to your concerns, follows up with them, and EXPLAINS your treatment or questions thoroughly! She set me up with a great treatment for acne that actually works, and recommended me to a mail-to-order pharmacy that made my topicals cheaper. BEWARE! This place just wants to Prescribe extremely expensive medications and extreme procedures. Also we had a prescription that expired by a couple months and had 2 refills left. They wanted us to come back in ( to get money). We moved out of state and this was not possible. If I could give zero stars I would do so. I never give reviews but felt no one should be subjected for Dr. Fening without a prior warning. The most unprofessional, aggressive consultation I have ever experienced. I made an appointment for a consultation before booking several long range appointments as I had just recently moved to Mountain Brook. After 15 minutes, Dr. Fening literally told me I was wasting her time and she had patients. She did not look at my face or try to reasonably communicate in any fashion. She was aggressive, unprofessional, unpleasant and a complete shock. I arrived at 7:30 a.m. as requested in order to be her first appointment and she was rushed and aggressive. Do not go to this dermatologist when there are other Professionals with more composure and professional skills than this emotional wreck of a doctor. read more

This practice has consistently been excellent and is getting better all the time. When I see something suspicious on my skin, I immediately call them, and they get me in even though I can only go after 3 since I work at a school. They always get me my test results on time. They have a personal touch as well, remembering past wound care or treatments and inquiring caringly about new issues. In March when I went for something to be treated, they reminded me it had been over a year and went ahead and did my visual inspection. We decided to treat 4 things instead of 1, so it was serious bang for my buck and efficient! They also asked if I wanted vaseline on the treated areas and made sure I was comfortable before I left. I had left my insurance card home and they were able to work with me at the front desk to find my spouse's card (waiting on a text, etc.). They were patient and tolerant of my disorganization. Lastly, the place itself is more beautiful and serene and clean every time I go. They are always doing improvements and even have a cool high counter and barstool-type seating so you can be efficient while you are in the waiting room. The black round disks on that counter are electrical outlets, so don't hesitate to pull them up and plug in! Kudos to this practice! I thank you all for taking such good care of me! read more

Went here for a laser hair removal treatment for my underarm. During treatment, it literally felt like the person working on me were burning up my underarms each time she zapped me with the laser. As painful as it was... I thought that was normal. The next day the skin under my arms were literally scorched, discolored and I was in so much pain. I went to work at the hospital wearing a short small sleeve because I couldn't have my sleeves touching my underarm. My RN corkers at my clinic noticed how burned up my skin were and asked what happened. I was embarrassed, but told them what happened--everyone was shocked! I was suppose to go back for 2 more laser treatments (already paid for) and decided I was would be insane to go through that again. read more

Village Dermatology is great! Dr. Lauren Hughey is very nice, friendly and patient. She checked me throughly from head to toe, even checking my scalp for hidden spots. She alleviated all my concerns and told me that I had my Scottish ancestors to blame for all my spotty skin and none of them are anything to worry about. I'm all set with a follow up appointment next year just to keep a check on those pesky spots. read more

She does a thorough full body screening on both me and my wife yearly. Both my wife and I have had suspicious leasions removed some of which have been biopsied to check for suspicious cells. I honestly can't wait till I'm done with my treatments, I guess my dermatologist in Texas spoiled me, but this office creeps me out, it reminds me of an old psych ward and some of the nurses are strange, one girl acts like she's dying, I don't know if she hates her job or what, then one of the girls at check out is a bit rude... My first visit to see Dr. Cherry. The office is nice and clean. The staff is polite, professional and helpful. I like Dr. Cherry, (her nurse was nice) and feel she listened to me and took her time to answer all my questions and concerns. We discussed a few different topics and she checked my skin for any possible preCancerous spots. I received a prescription to address an issue, a recommendation for expensive treatment pads they sale there in the Skin Boutique, I wish there was a way to get through my Rx Insurance coverage, and a price breakdown of a cosmetic Laser treatment I am interested in. Worst doctors experience I've ever had. Fening & her nurse were so rude & unprofessional. She was in the room all of 10 min. She didn't care to answer my questions & when I didn't agree with her first suggestion, she was done. I'm sitting in a thin piece of paper & underwear with two complete strangers looking down on me. I felt humiliated. I could not get out of the door fast enough. Fening made second medicine suggestion, but didn't tell me anything about it or why she thought it might help. She was clueless to my problem, which I could get over & just go to another doctor, but the way I was treated I will never forget. Also why did I spend so much time filling out a patient portal and her not look at it for a single minute? Nurse asked when my problems started and I had to tell her three different times because she didn't care or was completely out of it or both. Slightly disappointed in visit. I willingly decided to see a specialist without any referral from PCP. My concern was my eczema. As a new patient, I would have thought a thorough head to toe assessment would have been performed, and more feedback provided other than just being told "yea it looks like classic eczema." As a dermatology clinic, I expected to be asked to put on a gown and have an MD (in my case PA) assess me. I had barely rolled up my sleeves past the elbows, and when I mentioned my legs with broken skin, she didn't even care to look, just commented "it's probably the same situation going on on your arms." For having to pay a $40 dollar co-pay I left with the same instructions to continue what I was originally doing.. not much of any help read more

I was fortunate enough to be referred here through family friend for my 3 yo daughter. We had been struggling with a proper diagnosis and treatment plan through her pediatrician. Was eventually sent to a derm with a 3 week wait. No choices of dermatologist to choose from, just contacted by this group with an already scheduled time and told to be there. Meanwhile her condition worsened with no relief. After my phone call to Village I had an appointment scheduled as new patient and be seen same visit. In under an hour we were checked in, diagnosed, treated and even given RX for her eczema that was totally separate issue. Daughter was at ease entire visit and all smiles for staff. I drive the 1 1/2 from Huntsville to B'Ham for these visits. Worth it every single time. read more

Summary for those who don't want to read my whole complaint: Last year I went to Dr. Fening for hair loss, as the standard treatments haven't worked, and she advertised herself as a dermatopathologist. I did not feel listened to at all. I felt like I was shoveled into a room to see a physician that did not want to do any sort of problem solving to help me with my condition, just told me to keep taking the same medication I'd been taking for about a year that hasn't worked for me. The only other solutions she recommended were PRP or these proprietary vitamins the office sells (neither are approved by the FDA or within my budget) instead of helping me find a way to address my problems (I brought up hormone therapy but was shot down). In the end, she just told me keep an eye the issue and to keep doing what hasn't been working for a year. Full story is this: I felt literally no bedside manner from Dr. Fening and I felt incredibly rushed. I was told by the doctor that extraneous questions about laser aftercare would require another appointment because I was only there to talk about hair loss. This would be understandable except I went from intake to check out in under 20 minutes. Which I feel was too short of a consultation even for just hair loss. I explained to the dermatologist my issues and the treatment options that a previous dermatologist had given me (spironolactone/rogaine) that hadn't worked. She told me that those were all good treatment options and that there were no other medications that she could try. If you advertise someone as a "dermatopathologist", then I feel like they should be able to give more than the standard advice of spironolactone and and rogaine. I could have looked that up online myself and that is also what I've been using for over a year. No scalp biopsy was taken. The quality of care and the little amount of attention given to my problem left me really disheartened. No alternate avenues of treatment were explored during our appointment aside from purchasing PRP or buying proprietary vitamins, neither of which are FDA-approved for hair loss. The doctor told me that she had some literature on the vitamins that she would provide, then told the nurse to get a pamphlet. I asked her if this was peer-reviewed literature from a scientific publication or if it was just an advertisement pamphlet. And she said no it's not scientific literature but that's what we have. Meanwhile she was unwilling to explore the option of estrogen related therapies. When I brought up hormone replacement to stimulate hair growth, the idea was dismissed. She said she had never heard of estrogen being used or being a part of hair loss in spite of multiple studies showing that estrogen promotes hair growth (think of pregnant women whose hair grows with the surge of estriol and then it falls out after their pregnancy). Estrogen Receptor Beta promotes hair growth: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15591132 Estriol preferentially binds to ER-B: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/571299_6 I was unsure whether or not estrogen therapy would solve my problem, but I want a doctor that is at least willing to give something like that a shot before telling me my only choice is to drop thousands of dollars on PRP or take supplements that I have no idea what is really in them. The woman at the desk of the downstairs store was very helpful. And the receptionist who checked me out seemed legitimately concerned about my experience, which were the only redeeming features of this visit. She said she would have someone call me back to discuss my experience. No one ever did. In the end, she just told me keep an eye the issue and to keep doing what hasn't been working for a year. And I had to be the one to ask for her to take a picture to have something to track my "progress" with. I took off 2 hours of work and paid the co-pay. For that amount of effort on my part I would have expected more than just a modicum of effort on my doctor's part. Literally the only helpful thing that she did was recommend another doctor at UAB. read more

I have never felt so disrespected in my life. Complete unprofessionalism from everyone on the staff from the receptionist to the nurses and doctor. I am not saying that everyone there needs to have a refresher in ethical conduct (I did speak to one very kind and professional nurse) but the ones who do are despicable. I want for an annual mole check and Dr. Cherry didn't look at my chart or even know I had been to a dermatologist before (pretty relevant when you are checking for changes in precancerous moles). Surgery and care instructions were not given and results which were given over voicemail were not in lay terms. When I called right back to try to get an understanding on the results I was told it would be 48 hrs until a nurse could return my call. Skin protection and prevention is not of their concern.
