I came in with some very real concerns and specifically requested a more thorough visual examination after the most significant area of concern was not examined and noted. I also requested lab work/specimen examined and a stated my concern could not be seen without magnification. A simple light microscopy would have revealed my concerns but I was denied all 3 requests. I was sent home with a standard prescription but my underlying concern which is often a symptom/signal of other nutritional, genetic and/or physiological conditions. I revisited the website and learned my visit was not performed by a MD and she was actually a physician's assistant. She informed me there was no test associated with my concerns. After researching credible dermatology journals' articles I learned that many of my concerns are IN FACT diagnosed via skin scraping, hair sampling and light microscopy and in many cases this is a standard. I am not a medical expert and that is why I sought out help. I have lost my faith in the medical community with this Band-Aid approach to patient concerns. I'm 100% certain that this could have been handled correctly with proper examination/diagnostics carried out by an MD. I'm not discrediting the many physician's assistant out there with vast knowledge in their area of medicine but in this case, I believe I was dismissed due insufficient knowledge and bandaided. I am seeking a proper diagnosis of the treatment elsewhere as I am NOT satisfied with my visit. read more

So I didn't elect to come to this dermatology practice specifically, as I was referred here. Here's my take: PROS + I was able to get an appointment in only a few days. + Parking was not an issue. + I saw a sign for wifi in the waiting room (didn't test this out though). + I barely started flipping through a Southern Living before I was called back. + Desk staff were nice. + Dr. Hill seemed pretty friendly. + No one pushed any cosmetic treatments on me. CONS - If you're not going for aesthetic reasons, there's a strong visual emphasis on cosmetic dermatology. I noticed a prominent pullup banner for Botox in the entryway, and there are a zillion pamphlets on things like Latisse in the exam room. - Nurse could have been a bit more personable - There were 4 people in the exam room, and that didn't include me. - It was all a "Wham, Bam, Thank You Ma'am" experience, super fast. The exam seemed to take all of five minutes. I like to be coddled, but it's more like an assembly line here. And that's the total of my Total review! read more

I must say that after all the rave reviews I expected better. I THINK I was examined enough to rule out any skin cancers and I am grateful for that three minutes of attention. However, I also wanted to discuss the changes in my skin (pigmentation and little wart-like things) and got nowhere except go talk to the other office where they do procedures like the micro-needling. Well, I did, interrupting 3-4 young women who were hesitant to even answer by basic questions and I finally asked, "do I need to make an appointment to get this information" and they responded with a yes. Rushed me in and out for my first 3 visits. On my 3rd visit I had to remind Dr. Krell to sanitize my finger before he cut it with a scalpel. He asked me if I saw him sanitize it or not!! That truly worries me. On my fourth visit they lost track of my chart, and my 9:45 appointment lasted until 12 before I could see Dr. Krell. Got the prescriptions I needed, but overall the service has been sub par. As we were finishing, I asked about treatments for my acne scars that I have had for years. She recommended a cosmetic procedure and explained why this one over another. Dr Appell is the best! I had some skin lesions removed today. She took care of the issue with no pain. Very detailed to make sure every suspicious area was removed. She is also amazing with Botox and fillers. Never over done. I also finally had some time to see Ann Bevelle in the cosmetic center. Ann has helped me with my skin care for about 4 years. Tuscaloosa office..First visit, first impression. Doctor & Staff were late returning from lunch. Door was locked & other patients where waiting out side in the cold. Office was sublet from another business that was shut down (their sign was still in front of the office). The office was poorly equipped with a chair that that broke when Dr Krell sat in it. Equipment was open (not sterile). The office staff did not take any paper work from the patient. The examination was extremely fast and abrupt. Dr Krell did not use gloves for the exam. Dr Dr Krell prescribed medicine with out any knowledge of patient history or allergic reactions to medicine. read more

I for one appreciate efficiency so I'm a fan of total skin and beauty. I've been multiple times and have never waited more then 5 minutes in the waiting room before my name was called. Dr Glick has been great and I appreciate the fact that shes not afraid to cut something that looks suspicious. I'd much rather her cut off a suspicious mole rather then saying we'll keep an eye on it or freeze it. The appointments are always quick but I've never felt rushed and Dr. Glick is always happy to answer any questions I may have. I had the un-fortunate opportunity to have to utilize the services of this clinic. I developed a couple of skin cancers on my face. I was referred to Total Skin by my regular Dr. To begin with the facility is first rate. It's divided into different specialties depending on the type care you require. I had a regular consult to plan the course of treatment. Then a visit to do the actual treatment. My latest visit was to remove stitches and for the Dr to check the results. I was given a clean bill of health with an appointment for 3 months just to make sure all is well. If you are in need of any skin care I would definitely recommend these guys . read more

Let me start off by saying that I am a female in my early 20s. I have dealt with acne for almost 11 years of my life. It has been bad before but in NO way would I call my acne severe. I saw Dr. Hill today. I saw her for the first time back a few months ago and the prescrpition she gave me for my acne didn't help. When I told her this she insisted that the best thing to do was to go on Accutane. I have many family members in the medical field and I know Accutane should only be used for severe acne as a last resort. She gave me the information about the side effects and left the room. When she came back I explained that I did not feel comfortable with taking this medication after reviewing the side effects. I won't get into detail about them, but if you are wondering why I was concerned just Google the side effects for Accutane. You will see why I was concerned. Dr. Hill acted like I was stupid for not wanting to take it. She made comments like "Don't you want your acne to go away? You're going to have to risk having the side effects if you do." The side effects are outrageous and not something I felt safe doing to my body. It was very concerning to hear my doctor pretty much tell me that the only solution was a high risk medicine when I know that's not the only option. She ended up writing me another higher dosage prescripition of what I was on before. The whole time she was in the room I felt like she just assumed that since I am young I am completely naive about what's best for my body. She is not personable at all and has no bedside manner. I felt rushed the whole time and like I was an annoyance. My entire time at the office only lasted about 30 minutes. If you want to get in and out then this is the place. If you want to feel like you're being listened to go somewhere else. The bottom line is I don't reccommend this place if you want a doctor that will care about you. *Update* Dr. Hill did not tell me that the new prescription she gave me needed to be taken in moderation. I have chemical burns on my face because I used the medicine daily like she told me. Upon speaking to my pharmacist, you are supposed to use moisturizer the week prior to starting the medicine and then use it intermittently until your body builds up a tolerance. This was never mentioned during the appointment. I would definitely reccommend going to a different dermatologist. read more

The only complaint I have about Total Skin and Beauty is how long it takes to be seen. I've never been where I've waited less than an hour or so to be called back.
