The Great Pines .....The Great DISAPOINTMENT!!!…read more I am an old customer of the former North Woods INN which is now under New Ownership, GREAT PINES. I LIve 4hours SOUTH in NYC. North Woods was well worth the journey and the Karoke {wkends) was special! Staff friendly and extremely helpful--stayed at the inn Four(4) occasions! I booked a reservation in February 2023 for May2023--a group of six(6) in Three(3) KING ROOMS(@ $280.00 each). I did not hear or have any communication with THE PINES until I CALLED THEM five (5) days before Our arrival in May. I spoke with a fast-talking employee who informed me that the KITCHEN was closed until June One-also the kitchen at the pub bar located just outside the main lodge. I was also branded"rude" by her because of my concerns. I also tried to calm us BOTH down but, SHE was having none of it! Our conversation ended on a very sarcastic " have a nice day!" The whole resasoning of traveling to this resorts was the Fact that ONE DID NOT HAVE TO DRIVE while eating and having a few drinks--NO DUi ! I called leaving a message for the OWNER(S) which was not addressed.. I did not persue a Refund for the monies put down for the reservations--THIS REVIEW is worth the price of Saving even one person from booking a stay. It is a very sad commentary to experience this unprofessional business attitude towards new and/or old customers. What kind of RESORT lets you Book in Advance and then Closes their kichens for renovations?? And dont inform their outstanding reseservation until way past the cancellation period?? Good Luck if this place remains your choice--stay in touch with them especially if you re coming to them from a distance.

Cereals, donuts, snacks, you really want for nothing. Our host greeted us upon arrival and left us alone for the remainder of our stay, leaving notes to call if we needed. Initially, we had a little trouble getting a hold of them to make the reservation, but once we had that taken care of it was pretty much everything we could ask for. We arrived later on in the evening the first night, so we couldn't actually see much around the B&B and went to dinner. We came back, opened a bottle of wine, sat on the back porch, and stared at what was probably the most stars either of us had ever seen. Then we went to bed. When we woke up, we were not expecting what we saw - shrouded in a morning mist (sounds cheesey - but this is the real deal), the back of the place overlooked the Moose River, a calm portion that almost made up a small lake. It was really amazing, and as it cleared up we were just thrilled to have chosen the place. Access to free canoes and kayaks - which we took full advantage of. The landscaping and area leading down to the river was very nice, a great place to relax after a day of being a tourist or after some light kayaking. The river was very nice, meandering with houses here and there along the shore, perfect for a lazy canoe or kayak trip. Also lots of turtles, water birds, etc., I'd imagine the fishing would be pretty good too. They also have a sweet, sort of vintage tandem bike - good times. We went to have breakfast - a really nice continental - and the owners were really lovely. Super friendly and helpful re: getting around and finding things to do, Stuart and Jimmy were really great. They weren't obtrusive, but made sure we were well taken care of. The room was very nice, everything was sort of an Asian/Northwoods/Antique-y mixture that wasn't too gaudy but you still knew you were in a B&B. If you're planning on hitting upstate New York and you want to stay some place affordable (it was $79/night for 3 nights during the week - you can stay at a crappy hotel for that much or more), this is not to be missed. Friendly, beautiful, and really close to perfect to be totally honest - we were fully satisfied and talk about going back whenever it comes up.

I am so glad we stayed....the location is amazing, and the view from our room was breathtaking. We actually arrived after dark, so we didn't really have an idea of the surroundings when we fell asleep but the inn is just charming inside, so we knew we'd found a gem. The B&B is situated right on the Moose River, and we awoke after a restful evening to birdsong and a clear, lovely day. We stayed in the Farquharson room; it featured a private bath and a large, comfy bed. The picture window was an ideal foil to the morning mist that was just clearing from the Moose River, and once the drapes were drawn back we had a gorgeous, sweeping view of the river and the lush backyard. After getting ready for our day, we headed downstairs and were pleasantly surprised to find several small, cafe-style tables in the dining area. In most B&Bs that we've experienced, there is one large table that can make for a great or horrible experience over breakfast, simply depending upon your table mates. With the small tables, we could choose to talk with our neighbors or not, which is great for one who is not completely sociable prior to her first cup of coffee in the morning. Breakfast was delicious - we started with fresh fruit and yogurt, and then moved on to an amazing, golden-toasty-brown quiche and yummy potatoes. The rates are beyond reasonable and this inn is not to be missed - if you're in the Adirondacks (or just pining for a weekend away), you need to stay here!

The lobby is nicely decorated and has some seating. The hotel is two levels, but there is no elevator so request a room on the lower level if you have mobility concerns. The room was pretty sparse but clean as I mentioned before. A small tv, microwave and fridge were provided. The bedding could be better. Instead of a warm comforter, there's little more than a thin blanket given to sleep with. There's an extra blanket in the dresser if needed. Our room faced the back of the property which was quiet. Our friend's room faced the parking lot and they could hear people drinking and talking outside until 3AM. The continental breakfast provided is good enough if you need a quick morning bite. Though if you want a full breakfast, go to the Center St diner, about a 5 min drive from the hotel. They don't have online booking so you have to call up and relay all of your information over the phone to book. They take a one night deposit at the time of booking. The onsite restaurant called Boondocks is pretty large and had some good food. Your room comes with a free drink token for Boondocks. They are open until 12AM. Overall, this was a decent stay in the town. I believe it may be the only hotel around.

We booked The Lodge on Main a year in advance for a much anticipated family reunion. To quote the website ad directly, "We designed The Lodge on Main to comfortably accommodate large groups of friends and families. With a huge open floor plan that combines the kitchen, great room and dining room, you'll never feel cramped." Under amenities in the website description in the ad reads "Large Group Rental (10+)" Summer rates listed for the property read, "Summer Rates: Thursday - Sunday nights $400" Although, we were in fact charged $500/night - as explained by the owner the rate was $50 per person per night due to "wear and tear on the plumbing" and we had only "estimated" 10 people per night - due to the fact that two of our guests are active military and could not be guaranteed leave that far in advance. Had we known the reservation was absolutely inflexible and set in stone we would have estimated 12 guests to error on the side of caution. In reality, only five guests stayed the first night which when charged using the per person formula should have been $250 when in fact we were charged $500. The remainder of our party (7 people) arrived Saturday morning in 3 separate vehicles. We were not there 30 minutes when the owner approached us and inquired as to how many people were on the rental property as there were too many vehicles in the lot. (6 total) There was no mention of parking on the rental agreement or website nor were there signs guiding us where to park. We were also accused of driving across the lawn when in fact a customer from the liquor store was seen doing this. When I replied 12 people were on the property (10 estimated + 2 military) the owner immediately accused us of violating the agreement which only allowed 10 individuals on the property at once. He explained the property boundaries included the inside of the lodge as well as the outside backyard area which was generously equipped with 2 full sized picnic tables (16 seats) one raised ledge table with space for approximately four people and a fire pit area with exactly 11 Adirondack chairs arranged in a circle. When I questioned the owner as to why there were 11 chairs outside when no more than 10 were allowed on the premises, he snapped and stated that he was calling the police to have us evicted immediately. We were not informed prior to our arrival that there were strictly enforced rules stating NO guests beyond the original estimated 10 people were allowed to step foot on the property for ANY reason at ANY time. Had we known of this inflexibility we definitely would NOT have reserved this property for a vacation, family reunion or any other recreational purpose. The owner refused to explain HOW we were violating the contract when the website clearly stated, "sleeps 12" and there were exactly 12 people in attendance. One gentleman from our group asked (direct quote) "What can we do to make this work? Can you explain where it is acceptable to park, how many cars are allowed and the acceptable maximum occupancy inside and out?" The owner outright refused to answer the question and called law enforcement to have us evicted immediately. We were falsely lead to believe as stated on the website that this spacious rental property was appropriate for large gatherings that accommodated 12 guests. My adult family which included retired seniors, middle-aged first responders and active military whom were all civil and respectful were unjustly evicted without provocation or recourse. 12 people, thousands of dollars, one year of planning and a weekends worth of food and linens displaced in Old Forge on a Saturday afternoon with nowhere to go. It is also worth mentioning that this owner has live cameras mounted on the property where he monitors and records his guests activities from inside the adjoining liquor store (George's Liquor's) which he also owns. THIS is how Steven Perlowitz treats his guests. Do NOT spend your hard earned money at the Lodge on Main where guests are obviously NOT WELCOMED. The owner has no right to refer to himself as a host on his website or any other forum as he was the most unreasonable inhospitable business owner I have ever dealt with in my entire life. We will not be returning to Old Forge as our family reunion and weekend was completely devastated by the unjust actions of one inflexible and obstinate rental host.
