Many of the suites come with full kitchenettes, and there are cottages, cabins, and even a unique Icehouse suite if you want something special . What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality from Jeff and his son Ethan. They both are always willing to go above and beyond. We stayed in a room on the second floor with a small kitchenette, a comfortable queen bed, a private bath, and a lovely deck overlooking the lake. There were kayaks and canoes ready for us to explore the clear, clean waters right on site . The property is clean, low‑key, and perfectly relaxed. What you get is a wonderful balance of solitude and genuine family‑run service, and it's walking distance to the Blue Mountain Lake museum, local hikes, and a couple of diners and markets . In short: five stars all around, not only for the beautiful Adirondack setting and comfortable lodging, but especially for how Jeff and Ethan treated us. I shouldn't have to click some link randomly texted to me. Or call the phone number 4 times before I get a live person Apparently it is an airbnb because I got no housekeeping service. Now I'm wondering why I got charged a resort fee when this is not a resort. They advertise all these great TV channels but I can't even find MNF. No microwave. That's like a basic thing. I've got a mini fridge though. And apparently they never heard of ADA compliance. Why sure I'll hobble my ass up a flight of stairs with a 50lb suitcase. No dresser. Guess I'll live out of my suitcase this week. Can't find the thermostat. I have half a mind to call the property manager up. But it's 0100 and I'm feeling generous. The only place to put my laptop has no outlets available nearby. I've had to run the cord halfway across the room to connect to a 4-outlet adapter that is glued to a nightstand for some reason. So that the nightstand with a table lamp sits in the middle of the room also.

We checked in virtually and took a walk around the place and went into the "Lean In" intending to get dinner and a drink. The waitress rudely proceeded to say that we were not welcome and didn't belong at the table, that it was saved for other people who had been waiting. There were several open tables, no hostess check-ins or reserved table signs so we had no idea of whatever system she was referring to. She proceeded to complain to who looked like the manager of the place. Totally gave off vibes that we were not welcome here even though we were booked into the Honeymoon cabin, and not an outsider just coming here for a bite. The waitress could learn some manners and be nicer to customers. The manager should take a crash course in a customer service class. Even though we are here for two more days, we're sticking to our plan, but I don't think we are coming back after the poor start to our experience here.

My parents, grandparents and I began going to the Waldheim in the summer of 1957. My father was a…read morestressed-out executive at GE and the Waldheim was exactly what he was looking for: no telephones, no tv, no noise, very few motor boats. It was heaven for him. My mother loved the food in the dining room, especially the pies. My grandfather loved the three hearty meals per day and the walk through the woods to go to the dining hall. My grandmother loved to sit in an Adirondack chair and look at the lake. Every morning at sunrise, Duane --- a jack of all trades -- would come in and make a fire in our fireplace. I slept on a rollaway bed in the living room, and I was always awake when Duane came in. The morning fire warmed up the water heater that stood behind the fireplace and it took the chill off the room. My grandfather woke up early, and he'd come out of his bedroom and every morning he'd call Duane by the name Larry. My grandfather and I would get dressed and hit the trail early to reach the dining room precisely when it opened. We'd walk up to the porch and a waitress would ring a large bell to let the resort know they were open. We could smell wood burning in the fireplace, bacon frying, coffee brewing, bread baking and pancakes on the griddle. By the time we were finished with breakfast, my parents would arrive with my grandmother and we'd all enjoy the rising sunlight dappling off the lake. When I looked through contemporary photos of the Waldheim today, I swear nothing has changed. Green water glasses in the dining room, canoes from the boat house on the dock, hikes to nearby lakes for picnics, fishing and swimming off docks in front of the cottages, reading lamps in the windows....it's all still there, unchanged and charming. When we stayed in Longview, we chased a huge white catfish around North Bay but we didn't catch it for years. When we did, we took a Kodak black and white photo of it that I still have. We spent hours canoeing around, floating through massive populations of exotic water lilies with massive blooms that were forbidden by law to pick. As we canoed, we would look down and see fish swimming lazily below us. I remember dragon flies darting around us, dipping to the surface and leaving circles like rain drops. At night, we would play cards and read. No tv. Everyone drank, and in those days my father would take an ice pick and break off large chunks of ice from a bin on the front porch. He'd carry the chunks to the bathroom sink and chop it up into cube-sized pieces. The ice had been cut from the lake in the winter and stored between layers of sawdust in the ice house down the road. All of our senses came alive at the Waldheim and, 47 years later, the smells and sunlight and canoeing across a silent bay all come back to me as some of my best memories of childhood.

Once you have found the dock in Stillwater and embark on the Norridgewock River Cruise the fun begins. A 45 minute cruise of natural beauty and interesting information. I would suggest this is a perfect way for a family gathering to enjoy secluded Adirondack life. They currently charge $18 for adults and I think $10 for kids to cruise. The destination is a small boat dock where a mountain " limousine" awaits to bring you the last leg to the lodge. Once there you have a few hours to enjoy lunch and discover rustic camp life. A play area for kids, libation for adults and even a piano and guitar for anyone who would care to regale the other guests. Its all very chill and tranquil. You may find various accomodation if you care to spend the night,at very reasonable prices. The family who runs Norridgewock are intent on making your experience a good one and this is a most pleasant diversion in the woods!

Initially, we had a little trouble getting a hold of them to make the reservation, but once we had that taken care of it was pretty much everything we could ask for. We arrived later on in the evening the first night, so we couldn't actually see much around the B&B and went to dinner. We came back, opened a bottle of wine, sat on the back porch, and stared at what was probably the most stars either of us had ever seen. Then we went to bed. When we woke up, we were not expecting what we saw - shrouded in a morning mist (sounds cheesey - but this is the real deal), the back of the place overlooked the Moose River, a calm portion that almost made up a small lake. It was really amazing, and as it cleared up we were just thrilled to have chosen the place. Access to free canoes and kayaks - which we took full advantage of. The landscaping and area leading down to the river was very nice, a great place to relax after a day of being a tourist or after some light kayaking. The river was very nice, meandering with houses here and there along the shore, perfect for a lazy canoe or kayak trip. Also lots of turtles, water birds, etc., I'd imagine the fishing would be pretty good too. They also have a sweet, sort of vintage tandem bike - good times. We went to have breakfast - a really nice continental - and the owners were really lovely. Super friendly and helpful re: getting around and finding things to do, Stuart and Jimmy were really great. They weren't obtrusive, but made sure we were well taken care of. The room was very nice, everything was sort of an Asian/Northwoods/Antique-y mixture that wasn't too gaudy but you still knew you were in a B&B. If you're planning on hitting upstate New York and you want to stay some place affordable (it was $79/night for 3 nights during the week - you can stay at a crappy hotel for that much or more), this is not to be missed. Friendly, beautiful, and really close to perfect to be totally honest - we were fully satisfied and talk about going back whenever it comes up.

We actually arrived after dark, so we didn't really have an idea of the surroundings when we fell asleep but the inn is just charming inside, so we knew we'd found a gem. The B&B is situated right on the Moose River, and we awoke after a restful evening to birdsong and a clear, lovely day. We stayed in the Farquharson room; it featured a private bath and a large, comfy bed. The picture window was an ideal foil to the morning mist that was just clearing from the Moose River, and once the drapes were drawn back we had a gorgeous, sweeping view of the river and the lush backyard. After getting ready for our day, we headed downstairs and were pleasantly surprised to find several small, cafe-style tables in the dining area. In most B&Bs that we've experienced, there is one large table that can make for a great or horrible experience over breakfast, simply depending upon your table mates. With the small tables, we could choose to talk with our neighbors or not, which is great for one who is not completely sociable prior to her first cup of coffee in the morning. Breakfast was delicious - we started with fresh fruit and yogurt, and then moved on to an amazing, golden-toasty-brown quiche and yummy potatoes. The rates are beyond reasonable and this inn is not to be missed - if you're in the Adirondacks (or just pining for a weekend away), you need to stay here!
