He wanted me to experience riding it. So Stuttgart Town Hall (Rathaus) is home to three continuously moving "paternoster" elevators. These are open cabins with no doors and never stop moving, requiring passengers to hop on and off while in motion. It was scary at first and me not knowing how to read in German I piggybacked with my brother when only one person at a time was supposed to be inside. I tried it by myself. It was a bit scary. Also, I didn't know that I was supposed to hop off before reaching the top where it switches to going down. Each floor displayed local art work. Otherwise, nothing else to see. These are a rare, nostalgic piece of engineering, as new ones are no longer legally permitted. Review #4085

Our guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and very friendly. Disappointed that only a small area was included on the tour. Our guide said that much of the palace was under renovation. I really enjoyed the collection of clothing - this was very unusual and interesting.

I would imagine the inside is a magnificent structure just like most interiors of palaces.
