After hearing Randy's was the place for big, hot, delicious crabs, my husband and I pulled up on…read moreFriday, July 24th, ready to feast. Let's start with the parking lot. They have plenty of parking, which is great because you'll need the extra space to dodge potholes the size of kiddie pools. That lot is in horrible condition!! By the time we parked, our car needed a mechanic chiropractor. Unlike the parking lot, the inside was clean and moderately busy. When it was finally our turn, I confidently ordered hot large crabs. Pointing towards the display case showcasing a pan containing a moderate amount of cold crabs, the cashier replied, "We do not have large size hot crabs, only medium size cold crabs at $7.99 a pound." I slowly turned and looked at my husband with the universal married look that says, "Did we come all this way for refrigerated disappointment?" My husband the optimistic one decided we'd go ahead and get some anyway. As the employee began filling our order, I noticed she was selecting the smallest crabs from underneath the larger ones on display. I politely asked if she could choose larger ones instead, but my request wasn't acknowledged. After asking again and still receiving no response, I requested to select the crabs myself and was not acknowledged. At that point, we decided not to complete the purchase. For us, customer service is just as important as the food. We have a rule. If the service isn't there or the product isn't what a business is known for, it's okay to walk away. We almost settled, and that's never a good idea--especially these days when every dollar counts. And let's be honest the crabs were cold and my imagination started asking questions. How long have they been sitting there? Are these today's crabs...or are we on yesterday's episode? Maybe Randy's has amazing days. Maybe people leave carrying steaming bags of giant crabs while angels sing overhead. Friday, July 24th, just wasn't one of those days. Between the obstacle-course parking lot that doesn't qualify for FEMA assistance, the missing hot crabs, and being completely ignored by employee, this trip was an empty shell of what we expected.

This restaurant is a fully authentic and family run small business you have to try for yourselves. It's located in a small building on the eastern portion of Florida Blvd., east of the Hi Neighbor Supermarket. They have takeout, but there is also an adequate amount of seating so one can comfortably eat in. The menu explains each dish to the uninitiated, and there are some great combination plates. However, you could also order an appetizer and a side or two to make your own combination or to try different things. A couple of papusas and a side might make a nice option. Don't forget the authentic drinks while you are at it. There's several types of sodas you should check out. Their Mexican food is very authentic and delicious! For food alone, I would have given 5 stars but the service lowered the score. There is very very loud music playing in the restaurant to the point where the server, on several occasions could not hear what I was asking for or my mom when we ordered. The music had to be turned down and then it was turned right back up which was a bit irritating especially when it came time to order dessert. Our server was nice. Now for the food. I ordered the birria quesadilla and it was the best tasting thing I have had in a while. The portion was humongous, the food was fresh and hot, the consume was perfect. Everything about my food was a 10/10. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to any Mexican food lover or anyone wanting to try great cooking.

The birria tacos were good but greasy and the consume had a cinnamon and sweet flavor I wasn't used to compared to peppers and spices I've had other places. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming, authentic, with loud music, and a telenovela playing on the tv. We also had the homemade queso which I enjoyed but the chips tasted like they'd been fried in old grease. One thing I can definitely give them is the quantity of meat they put on the tacos and birria quesadillas. 3 birria tacos were $14 as well as the birria quesadilla. I'll be back soon to try other menu items!
