Everything was excellent , waitress was really nice, nice atmosphere , will definely go again

THEY ARE BACK IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION and I could cry with joy. Ellen got us goin' Mozzarella Fritta was good, love the tang of the sauce and the cheese was just a little cooler than the temp I'd want. I got the stuffed rigatoni with chicken with vodka sauce. Good - portion was a little small for me though. Dessert I went with the peanut butter pie - slim slice but the flavor was great! read more

The Villa Capri moved to a space in a local Country Club. It is quite unhandy to get to, no longer BYOB and service is so so. So is the food. Toooo much food! Ambiance is decent. Just not my favorite Italian restaurant read more

The food is excellent, very authentic Italian, even homemade garlic rolls. The owners are very warm and welcoming. The portions are so big! You will definitely have leftovers. There are so many choices too, not only pasta but great options such as crab cakes, chicken and more. The salad is very fresh and comes with your meal at no extra charge. Save room for dessert--there are so many choices. Oh...and don't forget to BYOB with NO cover charge. read more

Love the food. Only once disappointed. I'd recommend the Alfredo with chicken, oh and extra biscuits.,yummy

Very good food. Everything is homemade. Service was friendly and efficient. Open on Sundays.

Nice, quant, old school Italian joint. Had the Chx Parm and it was spot on. I asked if they'd split my pasta (half spaghetti half gnocchi) and they basically gave me an entire side order of gnocchi for no extra charge. Only draw backs, for me, was the sauce on gnocchi tasted a little different from that of the giant mound of spaghetti and chx parm ...too sweet for me. And the price was just a couple bucks too high I felt given the spot and what you got. read more

Hot trash and lots of it.... Quite possibly the worst dining experience of my life. The bill was comparable to a high end restaurant, but the food was anything but read more

Food was AMAZING. The vodka penne with chicken and fettuccine Alfredo was to die for. Portions are HUGE but so worth it. Make sure to save room for the moscato berry tiramisu. Missy was so nice and talked us through the menu. I can't wait to come back! read more

Food allergy friendly old school Italian near I-99. The rather large selection of entrees should please nearly everyone. However, this is probably not a place for those seeking lighter fare as there are no dinner salads and the menu has limited appetizers and no small plates. Affable service and generous portions of above average entrees more than make up for the skimpy portions of somewhat overpriced appetizers. On the whole, Villa Capri is a winner. read more

The food was amazing, like always. Our server Liz did an outstanding job. The ambiance is very family oriented and welcoming. Love it!

The best Italian around! The portions could feed 4 hungry people so expect leftovers of this amazing homemade food. Our favorites are chicken Alfredo and the lasagne. The Alfredo is everything Alfredo should be and the chicken is not just a protein addition. It's is grilled with great flavor that adds to the sauce. The lasagne is over cooked in a perfect way. The ends are crisp, the sauce tastes like it took all day to make and is reduced to the perfect sweetness and thickness. There is no other sauce that compares. The meal comes with these amazing homemade rolls brushed with strong well seasoned garlic butter and parm cheese. And a must order is the mozzarella fruit appetizer! Mmm a block of breaded cheese perfectly fried and smothered in the perfectly reduced red sauce. read more

Wouldn't know about this place if you didn't have any prior knowledge about it. But let me tell you, it is a great place to gather and have great authentic Italian food! read more

It's "Altoona Fancy"... BYOB & amazing garlic knots. Quaint neighborhood Italian spot for good portions & seemingly decent fare. I'm not the biggest fan of Italian food so this review mainly related to everything else--However, I've had enough to know this is close to authentic and good, and portions we're enormous--could easily be al due/for two or kinda sharable plates for bigger groups. Enjoyed the cute store up front selling their sauces, etc. Decor is inside is generally that forced-fancy veneer just barely covering basic. It was nice and quiet during our visit, and seating seems mostly/almost intimate (open square space filled with mostly 2-tops and 4-tops). Service is good, though our server didn't have a super depth of knowledge for more than cursory questions (though they seemed to fit the bill for a dyed-in-the-wool Italian persona). Overall, glad we tried it out--we would maybe go back to try dessert (there was simply no room with the portion sizes!) If for you're looking for a quieter date night spot for soft conversation, and you love Italian, Villa Capri is worth a shot. BIG HINT: It's BYOB. No beer or wine is available for purchase. We had no idea going in or we would have brought some nice wine. We were offered complimentary wine as consolation, but it was pretty terrible (I mean, really bad, but that's really on us for not knowing). Just be sure ya bring your own, and you'll have the best wine list in town. :) read more

atmosphere and staff were great. the place is old world italian family dining. the stuff was dated but not broken or dirty. i happen to like that vibe. tons of parking. place was busy on a tuesday night. clean bathrooms. sometimes, though, old world charm comes with worn carpets, stale smells and fixtures. in this case - nope. so far so good including the fish tank. but - we didn't know there was not a liquor license. yet, genius ,.. they provided a free red or white glass. perfect and smart - sadly, kind of like weak Riuniti (sp?). we found the food to be only just okay and below par. i read the other reviews and they are probably accurate. bland was an overarching theme. it wouldn't take much to boost the flavors and presentation. liberal use of butter and powdered parm cheese doesn't cure everything. the lasagna was way too cheesy, overly salty and no layers. baffling. one diner couldn't taste more due to the saltiness. the spinach was soft but didn't seem canned which we initially thought could be the source of the salt. the veal piccata was eatable but drowned in butter with no lemon at all. way too soupy. the breading, resultantly, was mushy and thicker than it should be, too. lots of pasta as a bed but maybe too much of that. even with liberal capers it wasn't salty as it should have been and there wasn't any pepper - i added it. this demanded citrus and pepper the clam appetizer was okay and normal for a place like this but, again, swimming in butter. this time however had powdered parm which made it better but rather unacceptable at any price. tort soup was watery and had some chicken cartilage that my guest spooned into her mouth ... spit out and pushed the bowl away. the wedding soup, oddly, didn't have meatballs. what was there seemed to be mushy bread balls. really odd - this tasted okay, however. the warm rolls were okay but a bit dense for our liking. brushed with butter and powdered parm made them better but not much so. again with the better and powdered cheese. service was attentive, super nice and the free glass of wine nice - great to have it because we didn't know they were byob. and i like chianti which can be deep and slightly sweet. over all i'd skip it and head to another place first. read more

First off the food. Not good. Tastes like canned tomato sauce and frozen cutlet. Cheap boxed noodles. I had chicken parm, wife had baked ziti. Both again. Not good at all. Second, price. It was $75 for 2 people no apps, 1 drink (coke) and 2 small slices of cheese cake. That's insane. For that price you expect quality. And this isn't it. The service was so so. I should have known when the parking lot was near empty on a Friday evening. I wouldn't recommend. read more

I usually try to eat here when I am in Altoona for work. The decor is somewhat outdated, but it kind of adds to the charm of the place. They bring out warm rolls with parmesean cheese to start - these are delicious! I always get an entree with the vodka sauce as it is very good. They have mason jars of it for sale, so I can't be the only one who enjoys it! The last meal I got was the Shrimp & Cavatelli pasta with vodka sauce. It was a huge portion - I got two full meals out of it. I really do think the price is reasonable for the size and quality food that is served. read more

Me and my family use to come here a lot , but never again . The quality of the food here is gross and taste old , the sauce is just tomato , and to much sugar . It use to be so much better . It's just slopped on a dirty chipped plate with no professional care . The dinning area is gross as well . Stained carpet and missing ceiling tiles . Sadly now it fits right into the ghetto it sits in . We felt sick after few bites , before we realized the food was old and reheated . We reported this place to the health code . read more

Wish I could rate it 0. Had reservations for 6:00 but didn't get seated until 7:20 on top of that we didn't get our food until 8:10.. the fried calamari was not fully cooked and when we asked to have it remade they took the same exact calamari and tossed it back into the fryer.. not very food safe.. after our dishes finally came out they were all lukewarm. My boyfriend got cavatelli with meatball and for some reason tHere were clams in it..My friend gOt ravioli and the waitress made a Snide remark to me on how I should share mine because my fRiend got a lady portion. Her boyfriend got chicken Alfredo as did I and and mine was so dry and the chicken tasted like.. It came out of a can.. dry and just odd tasting. His was extremely watery and had a very starchy. Our waitress was rude and it was hard to even get her attention. We are not happy at all with this experience. On top of that my boyfriend was charged 17.95 for his dish when it was supposed to be 14.95.. will never be coming back. Everyone was rude the food was awful the best part was the free water. read more

I am an Italian woman who is extremely picky about Italian food restaurants. I am so HAPPY I found Villa Capri at the beginning of this year. We have gone back there three times and will be going there over the weekend. This is an hour away from the town I live in but the drive up and back is worth every single mile. The Mussels over pasta with Marinara sauce is packed with flavor. It has just the right amount of garlic, the sauce is not too thick or thin and the mussels are HUGE and meaty. And there are plenty of mussels. This restaurant is 40 miles away from us. It's been the best we could find within a 40 mile radius from here. Even our own town, State College, PA, home of Penn State University, cannot match this place. The Chicken Marsala is fantastic. All of the pasta is "al dente" and never soggy or overcooked. Is is also never chewy. It's obvious they make everything fresh. In talking to the owner over lunch on our second visit, we learned that he goes out himself and finds the best mussels, fish, meats, etc. All of the pasta sauces are made from scratch. You can buy a jar or two on the way out of the restaurant. It is not made commercially so get it home and refrigerated. There are no funky ingredients or preservatives in the sauce. The restaurant reminds me of every Italian restaurant in South Philadelphia where I grew up. It's outdated but don't mistake that for being run down. The place is not rundown at all. It's beautifully kept. The food is always fresh. Definitely try the garlic bread. It is made from scratch by the owner himself and it is wonderful. We did go without a reservation the first time we went because we were not sure what time we'd be able to get there. About 15 minutes after we were seated, the restaurant was packed. It is decorated like an old family restaurant. The bathrooms are clean and were redone as of our second visit there. The wait staff is about as traditional as you can get, regardless of age. The hostess is an older woman and delightfully friendly. Just like the wait staff, she will check on everyone to make sure they're happy and satisfied. It's BYO bottle of wine. NO CORK FEES! If you don't BYO wine, they will offer you a complementary glass of red or white wine. We'll be taking a bottle this Sunday. read more

The Best Italian food in Altoona. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything from the hot garlic rolls, large portions and deserts are delicious. The atmosphere is nice too! read more

For many years, I heard people talk about this charming restaurant in the middle of Altoona. Let me tell you, this place is fantastic! The restaurant itself is very charming and intimate. Service is fast and friendly. They have a large menu filled with classic Italian dishes and their portions are huge! We always leave with leftovers for the next day! My favorite thing about this restaurant is their butter and garlic dinner rolls. They serve them before your meal and they come fresh out of the oven. They are warm & buttery. It's hard not to eat the entire plate! Whatever I order off the menu, I always ask for their vodka sauce. It is out of this world! Their homemade desserts finish it off right-- if you have room for dessert! I definitely suggest this place for anyone looking for an intimate evening or just looking for amazing Italian comfort food. This restaurant is also BYOB, so grab your favorite bottle of wine to bring along! read more

Excellent Italian food and great service. Have been wanting to try this place for a while. It's not in the most attractive part of town, but once inside you'd never know it. The atmosphere is classy and romantic. Live music was playing the night we were there. My spouse had the chicken marsala which was light and tasty. I had the chicken cacciatore and it was so very satisfying. The menu did claim that we each got a free glass of wine with our dinners but we were never offered it. Our second visit was for lunch and I had the chicken parmesan which was very good. My spouse had the spicy chicken pasta which was very spicy and flavorful. Very nice food, The garlic bread rolls are to die for. Had tiramisu for dessert and, trust me, if you visit for no other reason than to try the tiramisu it will be worth it. Wow. read more
