This time, my mother followed my advice. When it comes to pizzerias, start with the baseline traditional pie. The reason for that is because after that, if all else fails, then you have at least one go to. It is not a cardinal rule, but I would say that this tip works more than half the time. We got ourselves a half plain half mushroom pie, with an order of fried calamari. The pizza is good. A solid good. Solid taste in a marriage of cheese and sauce, and it creates a harmonious flavor. There is not much of a salty aftertaste to the pizza. No herbs either. The crust is more on the chew side; I saw no leopard charring on the back, so that tells me that the pizza is cooked in a gas fired oven and not a coal fired one. Could be wrong. The fried calamari is well breaded, but if you do not like tentacles, they serve those along with the typical rings. If the tentacles gross you out, maybe skip these and go for another appetizer. But never judge a squid by its legs. I think we will be giving this pizzeria another shot. read more

So I tried this place out tonight for the first time. When I placed the order over the phone, the guy taking the order was very helpful and friendly- so my issue wasn't the staff. It's rare for me to give a pizza joint a 5-star review if it's not on par with Brothers or Star Tavern, or any of the other true standouts in the tri-state area. But I'm going to do it for Villa Borghese, not so much for the pizza -- which is good -- but because of their amazingly perfect buffalo chicken cheesesteak. My brother and I have been on the hunt for the best buffalo chicken cheesesteak for decades. Like pizza, the cheesesteak concept is a simple one: bread, meat, cheese, and maybe fried onions. But only a mere few mortals can truly master making one that stands out from the rest. Also like pizza, everyone has their own set of criteria to define what "good" is. So it should come as no surprise that my brother and I have very strict criteria for what defines a *great* cheesesteak. With that, I will now make the bold statement that Villa Borghese's buffalo chicken cheesesteak is the best one we've ever had in all of New Jersey. Yep, it's true. Come fight me if you disagree. :D Villa Borghese has mastered the ingredients, the cooking of the ingredients, and the proportioning of the ingredients to make a normal sandwich-eating experience into something sublime. It starts with shaved chicken cooked on a flat top the same way you would a normal cheesesteak. Many places go wrong by substituting shaved chicken for a chopped up grilled chicken breast -- that's no good. They also use real buffalo sauce, as opposed to just plain hot sauce, and it makes a big difference. I'm also guessing they sauté the chicken in the buffalo sauce as they chop and cook it because it's the most juicy, flavorful chicken cheesesteak I've ever had. Another key criteria is the melted provolone. Many buffalo chicken cheesesteaks are served plain with blue cheese dressing on the side. The result is a big old mess -- a hard-to-eat sandwich with bits of chicken falling out of the roll and onto the eater. The melted provolone holds the chicken and all that tangy juiciness together in the roll making it not only taste better, but much easier to eat. But don't forget to add the blue cheese. Eating a buffalo chicken cheesesteak sans blue cheese dressing can result in having your human card taken away. Lastly, Villa Borghese uses a crusty, but not-too-dense submarine roll that really holds up under the weight of the ingredients. Be warned -- this is a monster of a sandwich! You don't want it to all fall apart because of some flimsy sub roll that can't handle the density of all that delicious meat and cheese and sauce and dressing. And perhaps even more remarkably is how well this sandwich travels. One of Villa Borghese's superpowers is their ability to get your order to you piping hot every single time you order from them. Cheesesteaks in general are prone to getting soggy and gross if they're not consumed quickly after being made. But have no fear, that will not happen if you order delivery from these guys. We have eaten other dishes here -- mostly pizza -- and it's all very good. Their grandma pie is particularly delicious, which is surprising because they really ladle on the thick and chunky tomato sauce -- something I typically don't like. But hey, someone in that kitchen knows how to make good gravy, so ladle away! But it will undoubtedly be the buffalo chicken cheesesteak that will be bringing me back, time and again. It's just... that... good. If this is your kinda thing, then Villa Borghese is your kinda place. Enjoy! read more

Boyfriend ordered chicken Marsala but it was so liquidity that it was making a mess all over the table. And the worst part was he found a feather in the chicken, how is that possible? Up until now my other options have been mediocre at best. But then I hear about this place. We had to order a bunch of pizzas for a small party and decided to give them a try. We did plain pies for the kids and gourmet pies for the adults. The results came in, and everyone loved it. Food was delivered timely, hot, complete, and in one piece. The buffalo chicken pie may have just been the best one I've ever eaten. The eggplant pie was also really good due to the generous amount of fresh garlic mixed in.
