What a fun place to enjoy some excellent cocktails with locally made spirits! The beginning of our visit was a bit frustrating - since the space is so small, customers don't have to wait there and can go wonder around while waiting for a table to open up. However, we heard the hostess telling people that she gave everyone 15 minutes before seating someone else in the table, even if the customers didn't confirm they still wanted the table. This led to lots of people waiting a long time (we were told an hour) or even getting turned away, even though at one point half of the tables were empty. That said, it was a super busy weekend so we gave them a bit of slack. The cocktails though - 10/10. I thought the flavors were interesting and well balanced and the presentation was beautiful. We didn't order any food, but they had a few snacks and small bites available. Would visit again, and would have definitely purchased a bottle or two of the spirits if we weren't flying back home the next day! read more

Vikre Distillery is a must go to spot in Duluth. Walk in and you will be greeted by the bartenders, look through the list of creative cocktails or get a sampler of their different spirits. Doing both is fun! I've been here a couple of times and the atmosphere is so cute. The glasses they serve drinks in look like glasses you'd find in your grandmas cabinet. Cool old fashioned/rustic distillery! Took a day trip to Duluth and stumbled upon this distillery. We stopped in to grab a drink. The bartender was nice & friendly. He made suggestions on other places to check out & things to do while visiting Duluth. I tried a mixed cocktail with gin. It was really good & strong. They do free tours at certain times in the day but you can see the machines throughout the distillery which is cool. Like most breweries/distillery's they have board games and stuff to keep you entertained if you want to hang around. The seating area isn't huge but big enough for small town Duluth. They even have a little gift shop. We parked a little ways away and walked/adventured around town when we found Vikre but there is off street parking. Located right by the lift bridge! read more

Great cocktails and wonderful service. The cocktails were so good that we got a kit to go. Wish I would have been told that I needed a shaker, but we made it work. The only thing that was like "really?" was the appetizer...salmon/cream cheese spread (mostly cream cheese) with crostini. 7 pieces of crostini and small plastic container (I mean small...like a Parmesan container that you sometimes get with a take out pizza). Spreading the cheese/salmon was difficult because it was fairly cold and there wasn't enough to always cover the crostini. For $7.00 and an appetizer that was mostly cream cheese and not salmon, Vikre Distillery should give 2 containers. Next time, we will skip the appetizer. read more

What a beautiful distillery! We had a nice visit recently going on their tour. We also got some snacks before the tour that were super good! The pretzel sticks came with dill butter and mustard. Then we got spiced pecans which were tasty too. The tour was free and started at 5:30pm. Overall a great tour but, seemed a bit rehearsed. Not a bad thing though. My favorite area was learning about the Barrell room. It was beautiful but, this is where people started to ask more questions and things seemed more relaxed. My girlfriends and I went to this distillery last night while on vacation in Duluth. It's located on the pier so killing time while we waited for a table was no problem. We were really impressed to learn this is a women owned and operated business! The staff was friendly and informative. The menu was extensive. All the cocktails came in unique and vintage glass wear. This is a cute little gin distillery in the downtown area of Duluth. They make seasonal cocktails and regularly change them up. Have you ever been to a gin distillery? I have not.. and it was a nice experience to grab a cocktail and enjoy the seating/company. It's a great place to go for a yummy drink and sit somewhere that you can actually have a conversation. The bartenders are also friendly and the cocktails will not break the bank! I went with a regular gin and tonic being the purist that I am. That Nordic hot chocolate was by far the most interesting hot chocolate I've ever had in my life. A one time experience that I don't regret, but wouldn't try again. Also tried a gin and tonic - the spruce gin is good enough that it's the first time I've purchased a bottle of gin from a distillery to take home. Great service in the midst of covid. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a lazy day in Canal Park and since we love small batch distilleries had to check out Vikre! We love Norseman in Minneapolis and really like the distilleries that encourage grabbing a drink, taking in the distilling process, and hanging out for a bit. Vikre has mastered this almost better than any distillery we've been to. Their board games, comfortably old fashioned chic gathering room, and reasonable prices make them a triple threat! I tried the special drink, Bramble On, with Hay & Sunshine Whiskey and loved the bitterish rhubarb syrup. It was just the right blend of slightly sweet, crisp, and refreshing! My husband's Really Old Fashioned was super strong but citrusy and good. We played a mean game of Battle Ship (bonus points for having all the pieces in all the game boxes!) while enjoying our cocktails and will be back next time we are in Duluth! read more

During a last-minute road trip to Duluth on Saturday for my mom's birthday, we stopped into Vikre Distillery to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised that it was as good as the Yelp reviews say! We called ahead to see if we could bring in our small dog and food from Northern Waters Smokehaus. They said yes to both, but informed us we could only bring our pup in the bar area (not upstairs). We had a great, cozy spot in the back corner of the bar area to enjoy our delicious cocktails. The downstairs bar area doesn't have any seats, but there are plenty of seats upstairs in the lounge area. My favorite cocktail was the Swedish Sno Cone. Adam H. enjoyed a few gin Old Fashioneds. The antique glassware and specialized ice cubes made the whole cocktail experience top notch. We didn't have time to stay for the 5:30pm free tour, but if we find ourselves back in Duluth, Vikre will definitely be on our itinerary! read more

If you want great drinks there's no better place in Canal Park. If you want a drink after 9:30pm look elsewhere. Unfortunately they close at 10pm. What a shame, and it's a disservice to visitors from out of town to close at 10pm on Friday and Saturday night. read more

What a great distillery! Unfortunately they were out of the single malt (for sale) but we were able to try a "wee dram" from the bar. Probably one of the finest single malts I'd ever had. We stumbled upon this fine establishment while visiting Duluth and Canal Park and so glad we went in. Staff couldn't have been nicer or friendlier as we had many questions about they're different products. I had a Old Fashioned and a Manhattan, both made with Hay & Sunshine Whiskey.....delicious! Ordered an old fashioned and waited...she came back and ID'd me (I'm almost 50) and said she got nervous when people were there alone...? Vikre is a nice little oasis in the middle of the busyness outside. The pear drink encompasses the excitement of the holidays and makes winter seem less daunting. The Old Fashioned is exactly what you'd hope for, rich and smooth. The NA drink was so good and refreshing that the alcohol wasn't even missed. Centered on Norwegian, this distillery works a lot like a coffee shop! You walk in and right away, you meet the bar-keep and make your order. They also have cool pre-made cocktails on tap that you can sample and a great selection of drinks! (Always ask what's on special!) After ordering, you go up a couple of stairs and there's an array of different seating styles from high-tables, low couches and even laptop-friendly café-style wall tables. Lots of rich history. To get to the restroom, you pass by the cool distillery and get to take a peak at how the magic is made. Definitely recommend this as the last spot to visit after a long lake walk! Our second of three drink stops during our stay in Duluth was Vikre! I do love a good cocktail. We actually ended up stopping here on Sunday as well! It is quite a small place, which made it kind of awkward standing in line at the bar to get a drink, but it was manageable. Don't be that person/people and try and shove your stroller in there, just please. This place is even less appropriate for stuff like that than breweries...yes amazingly people tried that while we were there along with a small toddler. Fortunately they wised up and left. Their drink list consisted of aquavit, vodka, and gin themed concoctions. Looks like they have whiskey too (which sounded delicious!) but sadly they didn't have any :( That's OK though, I went with a lovely sounding aquavit drink (the Overann) with glogg spices, hibiscus soda, and lime. It was really lovely. My husband went with a drink that featured their Voyageur aquavit - it was tasty but had a lot going on, I preferred my more simple cocktail! We took our drinks up to the lounge area - a long high table and a few smaller ones, with a good view of their distilling equipment. But like most distilleries I've been to the prices make it hard for me to justify having more than one, my drink was $11, husband's $12. I know, I'm cheap and uncultured :( But we did come back the following day and shared a bloody mary and a tasting flight. I actually preferred the tasting flight, we got the two aquavits and the two gins, it was fun tasting the difference between the same liqueurs! If we ever have another stop over in Duluth I'm sure we'll be back, I'd love to try their whiskey! read more

I have been dying to stop into the Vikre Distillery. I've heard so much about it and it's in my old college town. The location and cocktail room is perfect. It has the casual Duluth feel to it. They have taps that have provide tonic water and soon it will provide more than that. There is a beautiful chandelier over the tables upstairs that was inside some wirey sphere thing. It is also in the heart of Canal, right next to the lift bridge. However, I was disappointed in the cocktails. I ordered a cocktail with vodka in it, I can't remember what it was called, but it was overwhelmed with simply syrups. It was very tart with a sugar rim to combat the tartness. The drink looked very eloquent but I was disappointed because I could barely taste the alcohol. The drink failed to highlight the fantastic taste of the crafted alcohol. My friends also ordered a mango drink as well as a berry drink and they were too sweet or tart as well. I will be back because it seems as though they rotate their cocktails often. Free tours at 5:30pm every day. They ask you to buy a drink and tour while sipping. I didn't catch the tour but this looks like an interesting place. I tried a flight and it was a lot for me. I don't normally drink straight booze these days. My wife got a cocktail. I liked the cocktail and I will order a cocktail next time. The straight whiskey was good and strong. You may want to eat before trying a flight. I can't wait to go back and do the tour. read more
