We had a great experience on this tour! Our tour guide Ray was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting historical facts as well as a few stories from his childhood growing up in Newport. We had great views of all the buildings and the ocean. He showed us some places to watch the sunset, as well. We toured The Breakers and it was breathtaking! We will definitely take another tour with Viking when we return to Newport, RI!

Very informative tour today. I took the trolley around Newport and was dropped off at The Breakers. My tour guide was super friendly and informative about the houses and buildings around town. The Breakers was a quick tour, the only thing I found that would be nicer is if we had maybe another 20 mins to roam around here. I pretty much zoomed through not knowing how long it was, just wanted to make sure I made it back to the trolley on time. All in all, very good tour.

Possibly an ancient windmill? Some people say a Viking monument!

We took the highlight tour and had Ray as our tour guide. It was the best part of our trip to Newport. I highly recommend you do this early in your trip to get an idea of the things to go back to and see. Not only did he tell us about history which was amazing, but he had lots of personal insights about the area. He told us places to go for lunch, places to see the sunset and sunrise, as well as places to park to get away from the crowds especially in the summertime. I We highly highly recommend the store!

So glad I booked with Viking Tours of Newport for my niece's 8th birthday adventure! On the summer day we picked it was rainy and muggy, so the trolley was a huge relief since it is enclosed with air conditioning! The fun seats, the views, and the driver, Ron, all kept my niece interested while us adults listened to the narration... who knew there was so much history and celebrity life in Newport!? There are a TON of cool things to learn! When booking our trolley ticket we opted for the bundle Viking offers with the Breakers Mansion tour. I HIGHLY recommend this as my niece was soooo excited to get off the trolley at the "biggest house" and see inside. BONUS: it us the only mansion with a children's tour - so it is a fantastic combo ticket if you travel with kids! The whole excursion was about 3 hours - just the right amount of time before we got hungry! Driver Ron suggested a nice restaurant with a kid friendly menu and it was the perfect way to end the tour. Since the weather was so bad, I reached out to the Viking office for further indoor suggestions in Newport for kids. Kirtley and her team really pulled through for us and within minutes we had a list of indoor locations to try! This went so above and beyond since their suggestions had nothing to do with their trolley. We finished our afternoon nice and dry at the arcade and having ice cream. We are all so happy with our experience, we must have smiled all day, despite the rain. We felt totally taken care of! I Definitely recommend Viking Tours when in Newport!

We stopped at a good spot to take pics of the nice view.

I've been here many times over the last two years but have never walked it after any snowfall. So knowing it recently snowed and that it hasn't all melted away, I immediately drove down on my first day off. I'm sure it would have been even more beautiful than it was today if I had been here just after a fresh snowfall. But it was a good glimpse of just how beautiful it could be. There were still many patches of white and the landscape was transformed by it. The cold breeze enveloped you as you walked the 3.5 miles was refreshing like chugging a cold beer on a hot summer day. It's an easy stroll even on the "rougher" terrain. Any hiking shoes would easily help you traverse the whole 3.5 miles. You get to see many of the historical and private mansions along the coast. And if you're curious to see more of them, continue onto the main road at the end of the cliff walk and see them from there (lots of information posted along the way too!) Parking during off-season is plentiful and free. Good luck during the rest of the year finding parking when crowds really pack this place...

There are also great views of the Atlantic. On the downside, it can be very crowded and it's fairly narrow in spots. (I was going to put in an offer on the Breakers mansion, which has 70 rooms, 48 bedrooms and 27 fireplaces but thought it might be too drafty!!!). Newport is a great place to visit, and if you arrive on a decent day, it's worthwhile to take a walk on the Cliff Walk!

It was easy but exhilarating; definitely a unique experience and I highly recommend. We booked a week in advance. The check in process was seamless. The ride took about an hour and a half with the stop at the picnic spot (there were bathrooms too). There is a parking lot as well. Yes, we would definitely do it again!

We stopped at the scenic waterfront Bayside Station and there was a s'mores bar available while sitting fireside. The wood-burning fire pits kept us warm. After staying there for about 30 minutes, we pedaled back to the beginning. With the same group, the 4 of us did the Sunday Morning Brunch Tour/Bayside Brunch at 9am in August for $270. The weather was a lot better now than in April. We stopped at the scenic waterfront Bayside Station where we were able to use our 2 tickets for alcoholic drinks like Mimosas, Bellinis, and Bloody Marys. Death Wish Coffee and juice were complimentary. There were also complimentary muffins, danishes, and other pastries and fruit. Adirondack chairs were placed facing the water to enjoy the views. The 6 mile roundtrip tour is always an unforgettable experience. The staff are always very friendly and offer to take pictures to capture the memories. A brief instructional talk is always provided at the beginning and now they have a microphone so everyone can hear. Safety is of utmost importance.

At any given time, dozens of projects are underway. A visit to the Newport Mansions is a donation to The Preservation Society of Newport County. During the holiday season, The Breakers, Marble House, and The Elms welcome visitors with spectacular holiday displays so it was a great opportunity to visit. In addition to the house holiday display, there is an outdoor holiday display called Sparkling Lights at The Breakers from November 22 to December 29, 2024 on select evenings. Admission is only at 4 pm, 4:30 pm, 5 pm, 5:30 pm and 6 pm. Gates close at 6:30 pm and the house and grounds close at 8 pm. Timed admissions tickets can be purchased online at https://www.newportmansions.org/. Tickets include access to the lavishly decorated rooms inside the house during the same visit. About a week prior, I bought 2 tickets for December 20, 2024 at 6:00PM ($40.00 each) and I was really looking forward to it. However, there was a winter advisory and it was snowing on the day of. Driving conditions were unsafe. I was worried I was going to lose my money since the website indicated tickets may not be resold, non-transferrable, non-refundable, and cannot be used for a different date. I tried calling the Preservation Society of Newport County, but there were just prompts and I couldn't talk to a live person. I sent a direct message to @newport.mansions through Instagram and they responded promptly that I could receive a refund by emailing info@newportmansions.org. Gary Ruff, Associate Communications Manager, responded and instructed me with what information he needed to provide the refund. I was so appreciative. Thankfully, the snow cleared and temperature warmed up a bit so I bought 2 tickets for December 29, 2024 at 4:00PM ($40.00 each). All the decorated Christmas trees, the 15-foot-tall poinsettia tree, poinsettias, garlands, wreaths and fresh floral in the interior of The Breakers were beautiful and then walking through the lights and illuminated displays of the outdoor 13-acre landscape was just a cherry on the top. The Preservation Society of Newport County also partnered with Stoneacre Brasserie to offer holiday treats and adult beverages. Thank you to The Preservation Society of Newport County for everything you are doing to protect, preserve, and present an exceptional collection of house museums and landscapes.

I noticed that the Newport mansions were on every to-do list, with the Breakers being the top choice of many. I looked at their website as well as other reviews and saw that this may not be the best place for younger ones. I saw that no strollers were allowed and I didn't think a tour of an old mansion is something my 10 y/o would be interested in. So I decided to take a solo trip on a nice Friday morning while the rest of the family slept in late at the hotel. The Breakers opens at 10 AM. The visitors parking lot is on the corner of Ochre Point Avenue and Victoria Avenue. There are other lots nearby but read the signs as they are for other buildings...The parking lot had adequate space when I arrived at 10:15 or so, but by the time I was leaving at about 11:45 is was pretty packed with visitors having to park in the rear overflow lot. Once you reach the front gate of the Breakers mansion, there are COVID restriction and general rule signs. As you proceed you can go to the left to buy tickets, use the bathroom or enter their cafe. Tickets are about $26 for adults and $8 for children 6-17 years old. The cafe has a bunch of premade food items, drinks, snacks, premade sandwiches... and few seats with tables. There are some more seats and table just outside of the cafe. Before you enter the mansion, there are signs showing you how to use their self tour audio app. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS...AND BRING HEADPHONES. You download the Newport Mansions app from the App Store onto your Apple or Google device, select the mansion you are visiting and begin the tour. The audio tour was excellent and follows you through the tour route of the mansion. I enjoyed listening to all the interesting facts about each room via bluetooth earbuds while my hands were free to take photos with my camera. You only thing you will need to do is to advance (click the play button) the tour to the next room before entering. There are some interesting facts about the mansion as a whole and each individual room. You can also stay around longer in each area for additional facts, essentially lengthening the tour. Without the audio tour, you will have to fread the printed information sheet. You go through the main floor, upper floor and back down into the service area where the kitchen is. You then exit through the gift shop. The gift shop has lots of interesting items, which includes typical magnets, mugs and prints, but they also have some luxury items like platters and wine stoppers as well as a small jewelry section. You finally exit out onto the side of the mansion and are able to walk back around outside to the front where you entered. Before sure to walk through the opened gate to the right of the mansion which takes you through a small garden to the back. Here you can see the Cliff Walk path and the ocean. Overall, I had a great time...It was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. The entire tour took just over an hour without listening to the extra information about each room. (During the tour, there are a few instances where you have to ascend/descend steps - I did NOT see any elevators - so you may want to call ahead to check if you cannot climb steps) Again, I highly recommend downloading the app and listening to the audio tour via headphones. It allows your eyes to focus on the beauty of the mansion instead of reading. Lastly, the mansion is right off of the Cliff Walk path...so be sure to make the short ride (or walk) north to Narragansett Avenue and visit the Forty Steps.
