Just one of several beach areas along the river.

Great option south of Madison! If my memory serves me correctly this may be the first off-leash dog park in Dane County. It's not as big as Prairie Moraine, nor as hilly, but it is definitely a great park and has a nice variety of trails that take you through prairie and woods. You know what that means... SHADE!!! (Often in short supply at many of the dog parks). This park also offers quite a bit of water access with several small beaches along the river. It was busy, but not overly crowded by any means, on the random Sunday we visited. The park is rather long and somewhat narrow but there seem to be about four trails that parallel each other heading north/south -- this is nice because if you're trying to avoid another dog (or they're trying to avoid you), there are options for that. YES, THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WANT TO AVOID LEO JUMPING ON THEM. There. I said it. GEEZ. Another nice feature here is that there are other hiking trails just off the same parking lot for dogs on-leash. Finally, I think this is the first dog park we've been to where there is a HUMAN RESTROOM! Indeed. And a covered picnic area. (Not directly in the on-leash area, that would just be asking for trouble). All in all, another great option about 20 minutes south of Madison - and a lovely drive past Lake Kegonsa to get there!

One of my favorite places in the entire world! We used to live in Stoughton and often came early Saturday mornings. Big park, basically a peninsula of land jutting into a river. The land side is fenced, the rest is free game for the dogs. My dogs have ALWAYS loved swimming here, and there are two "beaches", one with a dock. Plenty of other land to walk around and let the dogs dry off after a swim. Recently, on vacation, we drove slightly out of our way to take our new lab for a romp....it was everything we remember and miss.

Beau enjoying a swim during the dog days of summer!

Favorite dog park, hands down! I love that the dogs can run, play, and swim freely! :) The beach a bit further from the entrance is a bit cleaner (perhaps because of its positioning on the river bend?) and sometimes less crowded than the first beach (which includes a dock for dogs to launch themselves from). Love it!

Where the pups go to cool off :)

So I'm writing this review from the perspective of a dog mom, and I think this park was a total let…read moredown for bringing your pup. We came here to visit due to its proximity to Madison and the fact that they had a dog beach. Sounds great. We parked somewhat near the beach and it's a short walk to the (very small) dog beach. Madison lakes in general are pretty gross, but today this one had a large amount of still water and algae, so wasn't really looking to stay here very long based on that. Figured we'd move on to a hike once my dog got his dunk in the water (which does kinda require a bath as soon as you get home). The trail by the dog beach then continues in different directions from the dog beach, but there are signs saying no dogs allowed. So you're kind of trapped in this small area. It was a warm summer day when we came here, so walking in the open blazing sun was not sounding great. We drove around the park to different trails trying to find something shaded and more than a quarter mile, but wasn't having much luck. The only wooded trail that was about 1.2 miles was the White Oak Trail, which looked amazing, but that trail doesn't allow dogs. Overall, I'd argue that this is not a very dog-friendly outdoor area and not worth the trip. Again, this review is solely for those visiting with their dogs, but who wants to go on an awesome outdoor adventure hike without man's best friend?

All went well and it's a beautiful well kept park. Cost for non campers to dump tanks was $10. Flush and potable water is available.

I liked the mix of technical and flow on the different trails. Only lack of a star because the trails were not always labeled well causing us to get lost a couple times.

This park seems predominantly geared (pun not intended, I swear!) towards mountain bike riders but there are several loops that hikers can also enjoy. (Mountain bikers need a trail pass too, fyi. Daily or annual passes can be purchased on-site). We didn't come across too many other people while we were here, despite it being a gorgeous fall day. We did meet up with one dog off-leash running with a biker. Scrraaappppe!! (dragging out soapbox) Argh! I get it - for many people they think their dog is well-behaved so they don't need to be on a leash. Well, there are rules for a reason and when people disregard those and let their dog off-leash when they shouldn't, parks crack down & change rules to not allow dogs at all (um, look at most Madison parks as a prime example). People with "well-behaved dogs" forget that #1) other people may be afraid of dogs and your off-leash dog is especially scary to them and #2) other dogs you encounter may be dog-aggressive or leash-aggressive so if your dog runs up to them, oooh boy! ANYway, back to CamRock. This was a fine spot for hiking and I'd go back if I were in the area. However, if I were driving from Madison I would probably opt for Indian Lake over CamRock for a hiking trip. I would definitely like to go back to CamRock in the spring though for some mountain biking, those trails looked like fun!
