One of my favorite go-to dog parks in Dane County. The pups love it. They can roam in an open field, or through a maze of shaded trees. And if they're into the water, there's a couple of open spots they can take a dip in the Yahara River. It's $5 dollars for a day pass (they are often there checking for passes) or $35 for a season. It's most definitely worth it to buy the season pass. So far, friendly dogs and friendly people. While it's fenced in, I recommend a training collar if your dog doesn't have great recall, because you could end up spending hours chasing Fido down. read more

Great option south of Madison! If my memory serves me correctly this may be the first off-leash dog park in Dane County. It's not as big as Prairie Moraine, nor as hilly, but it is definitely a great park and has a nice variety of trails that take you through prairie and woods. You know what that means... SHADE!!! (Often in short supply at many of the dog parks). This park also offers quite a bit of water access with several small beaches along the river. It was busy, but not overly crowded by any means, on the random Sunday we visited. The park is rather long and somewhat narrow but there seem to be about four trails that parallel each other heading north/south -- this is nice because if you're trying to avoid another dog (or they're trying to avoid you), there are options for that. YES, THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WANT TO AVOID LEO JUMPING ON THEM. There. I said it. GEEZ. Another nice feature here is that there are other hiking trails just off the same parking lot for dogs on-leash. Finally, I think this is the first dog park we've been to where there is a HUMAN RESTROOM! Indeed. And a covered picnic area. (Not directly in the on-leash area, that would just be asking for trouble). All in all, another great option about 20 minutes south of Madison - and a lovely drive past Lake Kegonsa to get there! read more

One of my favorite places in the entire world! We used to live in Stoughton and often came early Saturday mornings. Big park, basically a peninsula of land jutting into a river. The land side is fenced, the rest is free game for the dogs. My dogs have ALWAYS loved swimming here, and there are two "beaches", one with a dock. Plenty of other land to walk around and let the dogs dry off after a swim. Recently, on vacation, we drove slightly out of our way to take our new lab for a romp....it was everything we remember and miss. read more

Favorite dog park, hands down! I love that the dogs can run, play, and swim freely! :) The beach a bit further from the entrance is a bit cleaner (perhaps because of its positioning on the river bend?) and sometimes less crowded than the first beach (which includes a dock for dogs to launch themselves from). If you're a dog person, this may be the best dog park you'll ever visit. 14 acres, lots of open spaces, and two beaches on the Yahara River for the dogs who like to swim. Once in awhile you run into a bad dog owner who isn't worried about when their dog is biting other dogs, or doesn't clean up after them, but I guess some people are the same everywhere. read more

I love this park! And so does my dog! It really has a lot to offer. Shaded trails, sunny trails, a doggy beach, wide open space to run and chase, narrower paths for the solo doggo... what else could you need? As far as humans, I've never had an encounter with any irresponsible dog owners, issues, or disagreements here. Everyone who's ever been around when I have been there seems pretty down to earth. Only issue I have noticed here, and I am sure it has to do with the river being right there, is that in the summer the mosquitoes are HORRIBLE. Not like a few bites, kind of annoying bad.. more like, OMG-I'M-GOING-TO-LOSE-ALL-MY-BLOOD-BEFORE-I-CAN-WALK-BACK-TO-MY-CAR bad. Definitely load up on the repellent. And don't forget your doggo - they will be eaten alive as well! read more

It's really a 4.5 for me and a whole body tail wag for my Rose. We were here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I wish we had found out about this place long ago. It's too far away for us to go after work, but it's a great weekend outing locale. Nice slow moving river for the dogs to swim in; there are several beaches for the pups to get to the water. The park also has grassy open areas in hopes that your dog dries off before getting back in the car! Only wish there trash cans in more places than just at the entrance. And yes, your dog will almost for sure need a bath when you get home. But Rose and I will definitely be back here! read more

I have two pups and we are FREQUENT visitors of the area dog parks. This is our favorite park for HOT SUMMER DAYS with two "dog beaches" that allow the dogs to cool off, swim and splash! The ability for the dogs to swim is literally the only reason we choose to drive to Stoughton and think it is a worthy drive. The dogs LOVE it. Human can also stay cool with lots of shaded areas. The only down side is the only pet waste disposal area is at the entrance of the park. It would be really nice if they had a couple of trash cans throughout the park. Or at least one in the middle but for the swimming, I guess I can handle carrying my dog poo around the park till we make it back to the exit/entrance. read more

This is the best dog park in the area! We love the waterfront and the space available to run and play. My favorite part of this park is that almost every single person who visits the park is friendly and willing to let their dog play with others. I have been to other parks in the area and this one always has the most friendly people and pups! My dog never wants to leave because he has such a fun time! Most everyone at the park follows the general dog park etiquette which includes: Please be courteous to other dog owners and know how your dog interacts with others. If your dog is not spayed or neutered, please keep a close watch over your dog when off-leash at any time. Please pick up your dog's poop and throw away the bag! read more
