Located in Fergus, Falls, Minnesota this diner has been there since the dawn of time. As with most diners, they have diner food, but this place is exceptional. I had their thick cut bacon, hashbrowns, pancake, and sausage. That lasted me all the way through that evening. The service was great. The ambience was awesome. We had breakfast on a Saturday morning. The generous portions...will keep you full all day! My coffee cup was filled regularly by the wait staff who were busy with hungry customers. There was a tray of caramel cinnamon rolls cooling on the counter and had I not been full from my eggs, hash browns, toast and sausage links...I maybe could have ordered one. Popped into this place for breakfast on our way home from fishing in devils lake. There's lots of parking around back for our truck. It was the perfect little hometown diner with good food that we were looking for. Highly recommend the Eggy Peggy sandwich. My husband had the country fried steak and also loved it. read more

This is our favorite stop between family (ND) and the Minneapolis airport. Because: 1) real hash browns. Home fries are not hash browns. And those frozen patty things are a disgrace. The Viking makes hash browns that ARE hash browns. 2) the rest of the food, which is also good. 3) the friendliest, nicest staff. If you're in the area, this is the place to go. read more

We're new to the area and was looking for a local eatery. We were not disappointed when we found the Viking. It's a nice mom and pop restaurant that has a fantastic menu. The prices were good and you get good size portions. The wait staff is very friendly and did not hurry us even though we arrived 15 minutes before closing. I was in Fergus Falls for business for over a week and came here quite a few times with my colleagues. This is a greasy spoon with a menu and ambiance (think 70's diner trapped in time) to reflect the dining experience. Prices are fair and portions are mighty. The service is wonderful and attentive. The food is delicious, well done, and comes out really quick. The only downside to the food is the coffee is flavorless hot-brown and doesn't deliver any kick. The rest of the dishes are just fine and dandy, and they fueled me for a long day of work in sub-zero, blizzard conditions. When I come back to Fergus Falls will I revisit this diner? The food was greasy and my toast came out burnt. The service was bad but I think that's more due to people not working due to COVID then the service being bad all the time. I wouldn't recommend coming here over other places to eat in Fergus but people tend to love the food here. It's always busy! read more

Sad, sad, sad, when being busy is your excuse not providing friendly & professional customer service. Ate lunch with my daughter and grandchild around 12:45 and felt that we should be apologizing for entering the establishment. Sorry you had to clean our table, get us water, and bring food we didn't order. The things that were offered by server were done so with a tone that made us feel we really didn't want to ask you to do your job. Great that the locals keep your doors open and your employees collecting a paycheck but offering a friendly hello, thank you, etc to faces that aren't familiar would probably prevent these type of posts. Don't worry Viking Cafe as our day of patronizing the locally owned businesses continued we were led to believe that you are in like minded company when it comes to the lack of friendly customer service in Fergus Falls. read more

Best breakfast in town AND it's the cheapest. Truly a gem. Everyone is always insanely nice and the maple syrup is genuinely to die for.

Some of the best coleslaw I've ever had. Their burgers are very big, good, and well priced. Fries are fine, nothing special but solid. Great environment inside and friendly staff. I love small town local restaurants and this is a good one. Can't go wrong with the food or price. read more

Chowder is naturally thicker than vegetable soup, but to stand my spoon up in it??? I was in Fergus Falls on business yesterday and asked where I could find a good bowl of soup. The recommendation was The Viking Cafe. I got there about 12:40 and was grabbed the last available booth. Service was slow, understandable at that time of day, but the server just slapped the menu on the table, and turned away as though I didn't exist. I ordered the soup and salad bar. The salad bar was pathetic -- a little iceberg lettuce, a few tomato slices, sliced olives, egg salad, potato salad, and a couple of other things not usually associated with salad. The soup was like library paste. I took a couple of bites, but couldn't manage more than that. For fun, I put my spoon into it and was not surprised that it stood up straight for nearly half a minute. No, I would NEVER go back! read more

Perfect cafe decor and menu. Mr ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the Swiss steak which was on the menu of the day. Homemade pumpkin pie received two thumbs up for spices and deliciousness. I ordered the tuna noodle casserole, traditional taste with peas. A side salad with French dressing added some crunch to the comfort food. We will definitely stop again. read more

The omelets are the best no wonder they won the best of Minnesota! I normally have ham and cheese with mushrooms omelet. It also comes with a generous portion of hash browns as well! The waitresses always make sure you coffee is full. This is why I highly recommend a fergus favorite! read more

We stumbled on this place after a four hour drive from northern Minnesota. Typical small-town diner. The service was fantastic. When my wife wanted a second glass, the waitress was there five seconds before she asked for it. We both had the Larry's Cheeseburger and fries. I can honestly say, along with my wife, it was incredibly good. To be honest we only stopped at Fergus Falls because we were lost and hungry. This gem made getting lost worthwhile. read more

We gave this place three chances and they failed miserably. The food is not at good as people have said and the service and attitude you get from the staff is horrible. Because we were not regulars we were made to wait to get served, while customers that the waitress new got served immediately. They make you feel like it is a bother that you are there. The Viking Cafe is a Fergus Falls staple, espcecially for breakfast. Great hang over food, but not exactly my 1st choice for a meal. I have never seen them add or change menu items. I enjoy the laid back, stuck in time, grandpa's diner vibe. Everyone who grew up in Fergus has a soft spot for this place. As a loyal patron, I was very disappointed today when I was charged full price for food that I sent back to the kitchen for being burnt to a char. They did not offer me new food, and I left hungry.
