I had an unfortunately very negative experience with United Tailoring Shop…read more I went in with a jacket needing a new zipper, simple enough. The man inside quoted me a price of $15, this seemed reasonable to me so I accepted and he gave me a receipt. The next day I got a call from the shop telling me the price would actually be $30 - it's not usually my experience that a business would call to double their quoted price, but fine. On the same call they said to come back the next day to pick up the jacket. Well, the next day rolls around and I make the trip to the shop and oh - the jacket isn't ready. They were capable of calling me to raise their price but not of calling me to say they actually needed more time. But hey, mistakes happen right? It's all okay, they say to come back on the weekend and the jacket will be ready. A few days later and they call me again to say the jacket is ready for pickup. Great, the next day I go back to the shop and again my jacket isn't ready. At this point I'm wondering if they're just intentionally messing with me. Why would they call me twice to come pick up my jacket when it wasn't ready either time? I'm still baffled. At this point I'm done entertaining this back and forth. They've doubled their price and twice wasted my time by calling me to their store when they weren't actually ready. I tell them to return my jacket but then they frantically refuse and a man in the back of the store starts working on it right away. For all the hassle of this experience I was thinking 'okay, well maybe I'll at least have my jacket repaired'. That was a foolish thought. They absolutely butchered the jacket. There's loose thread all over the place and the replacement zipper isn't aligned to the contour of the jacket at all. The bottom of the jacket doesn't even line up properly now. They all looked at me as if they were very annoyed at me - as if they weren't the ones who wasted my time and ruined my jacket. To re cap - They doubled their original quote - They called me on two separate occasions to pick up the jacket, making me take time out of my day to go to their shop, and both times they had not actually started work on the jacket - They refused to return the jacket and quickly did a hack job replacing the zipper I still don't understand why they couldn't have just taken their time, done a proper repair job, and called me when the job was actually done. Here's some free advice, don't call your clients to pick up their items if you haven't actually done the work yet. Crazy idea, I know.

Not only is she remarkably skilled, she is also kind, generous, funny and clear about what is possible and what isn't. She will give it to you straight, but in a respectful and loving way. She is a master at giving her professional opinion in a way that is helpful, but not at all pushy, and managing the personalities in the room in order to center your voice and opinion. I went in to see Courtney for the first time in March 2020, just a few days before the world shut down and we all went into lockdown. My dress didn't need much -- a hemming and replacing of the buttons and button loops in the back of my dress. Courtney was great at communicating with me as my wedding was postponed from June 2020 to June 2021. When I went in to see her a year later, our world had changed and so had I. When I tried on my dress, I no longer felt comfortable or confident in my dress and so I embarked on a journey to find a new dress, literally THREE WEEKS before my wedding. Courtney was so kind and encouraging as I found a dress that fit me properly and made me happy while wearing it. She managed to accommodate my new dress fitting and alterations in TWO WEEKS and didn't even charge me a rush pricing. Because of her, I was able to wear a wedding dress that made me feel confident and beautiful. Then after my wedding, she fixed a snag in the neckline of my dress, ON THE HOUSE. I am so utterly thankful to have been able to work with Courtney. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I didn't have such an incredible seamstress on my side for my wedding. She is an incredible small business owner who knows what she is doing and is in demand because of it. Her labor is worth every damn cent and I wholeheartedly recommend her and her team.
