Their outlet store is right in the same parking lot as their jerky factory so the product is fresh. If you've never had New Mexico style jerky it's not like the stuff you get down at the convenience store. NM jerky is paper thin, completely dry and crunchy like a chip. First time coming to Vigils Beef Jerky shop. I've had their jerky through other retail shops but never actually went to their own place. I saw on their Facebook page that they were offering a case of toilet paper (24 pack) with the purchase of their 8oz jerky. I'll be honest at first I thought it was just a joke gag seeing as everyone is going on a toilet paper hoarding spree so I called prior to leaving to awkwardly ask if it was legit. Sure enough it was. My dad said he was running low on TP so because of all the madness lately at the stores he's been unsuccessful finding some. I figured this was an opportunity to get some and help him out. I know how difficult it's been lately because of the Corona Virus scare. So I figured surprise him and make it easier for him. Plus spending extra time with him even if just for a few minutes was worth the trip. I love my dad! Soon as I arrived there was a line of people walking in after me. They only had 4 cases of TP left that was up for grabs so I grabbed one along with some jerky and headed straight for the register and made my purchase. The staff was polite and friendly. Admittedly I was a bit overwhelmed with the selection of different jerky's they had in stock. Maybe it was also because I was holding a big box and trying to decide what I wanted. It definitely was a tough call. I had not expected that large of a selection. Eventually I settled with the teriyaki flavor. My dad got his toilet paper and I got some tasty jerky! It was a win win! The jerky itself was a little tough to chew. I think because of the teriyaki itself when the meat was cooking it hardened the meat. Once you get past the initial first few bites it softens up and is quite delicious. I recommend if you get the teriyaki flavor breaking the large chunks of jerky up and eating it in smaller pieces because it requires a lot of chewing to soften it up. So expect a mouth full workout. The teriyaki flavor is very rewarding for all the effort. Price wise they are a little more expensive than your domestic Jack Links jerky but the quality makes up for the price. Plus it's local so you know you're getting true New Mexico essence! Next time I'm in the area might hit them up again and try another flavor not as tough on the mouth with less chewing effort. read more

I had ordered this jerky a couple of years ago to be shipped. The jerky was turning white. I called and was told that it is New Mexico style and is supposed to be dry. I have bought jerky at other places in New Mexico and know how it is supposed to taste. I know it is a crisper version than your regular gas station jerky. Well, a couple of months ago, I received an e-mail stating that there was 30% off. Biggest mistake ever. I think that is their way of getting rid of old jerky. I ordered 2 pounds. I was so embarrassed. I gave one pound to a co worker for Christmas, she loves New Mexico Jerky. She actually gave it back, saying she didn't want to waste eat, but couldn't eat it. I gave some to my granddaughter, she said it was nasty. I gave some to my husband and he actually gave it to the dogs. Never, ever again. read more

Don't buy the Elk Jerky, quality of meat is substandard. Also bought the frozen ground beef and was not frozen fresh, discolored and freezer burnt when thawed, very disappointed. Quality of this business has slipped. read more

It got delivered to a different address other than mine. I contacted them for some resolution and they told me to file a claim in the post office. Vigil Beef told me I could write a claim to get my money back from the post office. Post office says that's a NO GO. So I write a strongly worded email to them. Exact same situation as Monica. Rather than offer to resend the order or refund my money (which is straight BS, because I usually drop $100's of dollars on their product yearly), they just ignore their customers. They have great product, but apparently if you have problem with your order, they are NOT going to make it right. read more

We were buying ground beef here. The price was 1.50 per lb. when we first bought. Great deal and the product was good. Then the price went to 1.99. Still a value so we kept purchasing even though it is a far drive. Today, April 17 2020 the price jumped to 3.49. Why? We checked sams club where we go every day and can buy it there and the price was lower, quite a bit lower actually. We like their product but this is our last trip there. read more

Haters gonna hate, but those of us who understand carne seca will flock to Vigil's over and over again. I love jerky, but it's so difficult to find any made without a ton of sugar, or without nitrates. I was so happy to find Vigil's green chile carne seca at Costco and try it for the first time. From then on, we were hooked. Yeah, it's a much drier jerky than you're probably used to. But it's packed with flavor, and personally, I think the texture is far superior to other jerky that I've found. It actually tastes like beef. Plus, no weird ingredients. They keep it basic, they keep it delicious. I just placed an order, and I can't wait to try more of their flavors. Ol' Heather can keep her Teriyaki Slim Jims. I'm keeping my Vigil's. read more

Tried this jerky at the hotel gift shop where I'm staying in Albuquerque. Best jerky I've tasted, no sugar is a major plus for diabetic me. I guess it is dryer and crispier than the average jerky but I love it. Maybe that's why I dislike so many of the ones you get in the average gas station, so plastic and rubbery! Terrible Customer Service - I recently ordered from Vigil Beef Jerky because I really enjoyed their product - I made an online order and it never made it to my house - contacted the Postal Service who told me to contact Vigil Beef and then Vigil Beef told me I could write a claim to get my money back from the post office - contacted the Post Office again who told me there was no insurance - contacted the Vigil Beef again - hoping to get some kindness or resolution - what I got was animosity - the manager said what makes you think Vigil Beef should be responsible for getting your order to you - it's the federal government's fault your package did not make it to you. And continue on from there - ok - so I will never buy your product again if you can't guarantee I'll receive it. On a road trip recently and I try a new brand of jerky from time to time. I'd never heard of Vigil's. I tried the butter and mesquite carne seca. I was totally surprised by the way the meat literally crumbled in my mouth, like a very thin wafer. No chewiness at all. This is the driest jerky I have ever had. However, Vigil's evidently knows what they're doing. After a few seconds, the texture changed to a wonderfully flavored, easy to chew, and somewhat unique style of jerky. Seca = dry, but don't let the process Vigil's uses fool you. This is a great product. I'm ordering some more. read more

I rarely right reviews unless I have a fantastic experience or a horrible one. This unfortunately is a horrible one! Good Jerky. TERRIBLE Customer Service!!! I don't think I've ever dealt with a retailer/vendor that has ever treated me this way. I have been a loyal/regular customer of Vigil's Beef Jerky now for several years because I really enjoy their Green Chile Jerky. I will never do business with them again however. Like I said good jerky but I absolutely will not do business with a company that refuses to take responsibility for THEIR mistakes. I recently moved into a new home about 3 months ago. I placed an order for 3 lbs. of jerky on the 4th of October. I received an email confirmation on my order with my new billing and shipping addresses. I was informed that I would have my shipment by Friday the 7th. When I didn't receive my order on the 7th, I checked the tracking number that was provided. I noticed that they actually shipped my package to my old address! Although they sent me an invoice/confirmation showing the new address for billing and SHIPPING, they shipped it to the old address. I called customer service and asked them to please ship me a new order since this was their mistake. They refused to do this and told me that they had to follow their processes - which means they have to put in a claim with USPS which could take weeks and I would have to wait for my order of jerky until then. I could not believe what I was hearing especially because the female I spoke with even admitted that it was her fault. She herself had shipped it to the wrong address. I was so frustrated with her that I informed her that I would provide a review of my experience on Yelp and other forums. She said she couldn't do anything about it and said...."I just work here." She said she would speak with the owner and get back to me. When she called me back nothing had changed. The owner could care less. He told her that I would have to wait for my order even if it was their mistake and that if I wrote an unfavorable review (THE TRUTH), it would be slanderous! Unbelievable! They do make a good product but the way they treat their customers is ridiculous! If you're looking to buy product from a good, honest company that cares about its customers, I would take my business somewhere else and stay away from Vigil's! read more

I live off this beefjerky. As someone stated it is dried more, but it only makes it better. The flavor is perfection amd nothing better than looking at an ingredient list with only 5 items. Vigils in all the gas stations out here and I NEVER choose anything else, for nothing comes even close to the level of awesome this carne seca jerky is on. read more
