Excellent service and excellent food! Appetizers were egg rolls, spring rolls and dumplings. The egg rolls were very small but tasty, the spring rolls were great- stuffed to the brim. The dumplings were ok- The kids had chicken with fried rice and they practically licked the plate clean. We had the beef Pho , chicken with pineapple and onions and salmon with rice. This is still an amazing place to eat, and it's getting better. More selection and the waiter was amazing. He answered our questions and offered suggestions. When my son commented his ramen wasn't as hot as he expected, he quickly returned with a hot soy sauce for him to try. It made all the difference. My son said he'd Order that from now on. I drove 40 mins to get to this restaurant, I was craving some authentic Asian foods. This restaurant is clean with a friendly atmosphere. The menu has a large selection of various Vietnamese foods. I decided to order the hot pot this time as it being my first time here, the menu said $12.95 I believe, NOT ALL YOU CAN EAT, and I had a hot jasmine tea. The base broth was good, I chose 3 on Spiciness, it was perfect that way. The meat came out over a bed of onions, it was a decent amount for the price, it was top round or flap meat, I think, and a couple Vietnamese Meat balls... the vegetables were fresh although not a wide variety that I'm used too, a few pieces of Bok choy, carrot, white mushrooms and lettuce. I wished they offered more quantity, I would of loved some, Lotus, Pumpkin or sweet potato, Taro. And dumpling. I believe thats chinese style though, I also had some rice noodles with it as a starchI can say that it tasted delicious but I was astill a little hungry when I left, as you know vegetables are not filling unless you eat a lot of them. I could of ordered something else but had to go somewhere. I was able to meet and talk to the manager, Phat, he was super nice and we actually talked a while about various subjects. So, first time trying this place and ordered a nice variety of appetizers and entrees. Ended up throwing away the whole $45 worth of food. Picked up food at restaurant. Place looked old, a hir unkempt and overall kind of dirty. Granted, it was a To Go order, but the quality of the ingredients and just the overall texture and taste of the appetizer and the three entrees were all unappetizing and literally hard to swallow. Dayton is well known for its Scopes' Trial and Strawberry Festival, but Vietnamese food? To my pleasant surprise, the answer is yes! The only reason I gave the restaurant a 4 out of 5 stars is because I ordered two tofu plates, and the tofu was a little over cooked and there was not quite enough sauce for either dish. The vegetarian egg rolls were delicious, as was the kimchi. The subtlety of flavors was right on - not over powering. I ordered my food for pickup and the curbside pickup was easy - just called them when I arrived and they brought it to my car. This is a great find and I will definitely be back to try it again! read more

My little family of four decided to take a chance tonight, and we are so glad we did. To begin, after walking into the restaurant with no other guests at that time, we chose to sit down and try out our luck on something different and new. The waitress, Katherine, who happens to be the most informed, and kind-hearted server we had ever met walked us through the menu literally step by step. The place was clean, well decorated- for a small place, and gave us a good vibe as soon as we sat down. We chose to go all out with trying something new. We had appetizers and entrees. We hit up this place on our summer vacation on a total whim and got our a$$es handed to us with some AWESOME Vietnamese food with AWESOME prices!!! Checked into our hotel, cleaned up and drove down the Dayton "strip", totally expecting to only find crappy fast food as it was 8:30 pm. I will be honest; on the outside the Vietnamese Bistro looks questionable compared to some of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in Houston, Texas but do not let the strip center location fool you! This "fish out of water" (according to our server) did not disappoint and offered up authentic, well portioned and beautifully garnished dishes that tasted delicious. We started with the pork spring rolls, which had a lightly seasoned pork, noodle and sprout filling that melted in your mouth. The dipping sauce wasn't overpowering and it was a tasty treat to wake up our sleepy and dog-tired taste buds. My husband had the traditional Pho Bo with all of the traditional garnish; cilantro, lime, sprouts, hot sauce and true Thai basil. Because he doesn't know the limitations of his stomach size, he also ordered a dinner plate of seared pork with lemongrass, noodles and a small salad. Both of his meals were again not overpowering with their seasonings, but the spices complemented both dishes nicely. He ate them both BTW... I ordered steamed dark meat chicken with plain rice and a small salad. The chicken drums were authentically split lengthwise with what appeared to be a meat cleaver and cooked perfectly. The two accompanying dipping sauces also complemented the food perfectly and I particularly enjoyed the ginger/red pepper dipping sauce with my chicken. Also, if you have not ever had authentic Vietnamese hot cafe, please TRY IT! Grounds were perfectly pressed to allow the flavors to reach their maximum strength and were slow dripped over cold, condensed milk. Before you make a face, ask for a cup, mix the milk and coffee once brewed (this is done at the table) and take a sip. You will probably throw rocks at Starbucks. All in all, we were highly impressed with this restaurant. As two people who love food and are considering relocating to the Tennessee area, I really hope Vietnamese Bistro continues to grow and expand to other locations. The family pride in the food is evident upon the first bite. As an aside, our server (I'm sorry I did not get his name) was a super nice and super polite young man. He was the first person to give us a "Welcome to Dayton!" greeting in this town and presented himself and his family's restaurant with the utmost pride. Thank you, Vietnamese Bistro! read more

Tried their food twice now. Egg rolls are small, but good. Spring rolls have no flavor. Mini Vietnamese pancakes are not good. Less than a whole shrimp cut up through all 7 of the pancakes and they were not cooked all the way through. There was no pork belly in it either. It was just like eating wet clumps of dough with no flavor. Staff is nice, but wouldn't eat again or recommend. read more

This is a perfect place for full flavor, authentic Vietnamese food prepared by the matriarch of a hard working and very talented family. I have been twice as the guest of friends who live close by. They always have the pancake which looks and tastes amazing... Vegans and vegetarians will be welcomed.. the menu has many options and since each dish is prepared to order , the kitchen accommodates beautifully. I came here a little nervous since I hadn't seen any cars in front of this place and my fear was fueled even more when we got inside the restaurant and no one was eating there. Then the hostess came out and she was so kind! And we had a fabulous waitress! My fear subsided when I realized that we had just came early, because an hour later flocks of people came through to eat here! The food was magical. Celebrated TET New Year at Vietnamese Bistro with wonderful traditional cuisine, Great dining experience of traditional Vietnamese New Year meal consists of several courses. We enjoyed caramelized chicken thighs with sides of lettuce, chive, basil cilantro, bean sprouts and carrots ( all at peak of freshness) - marinated in rice vinegar with right amount of heat. Excellent chicken egg drop soup, mushrooms provided a wonderful earthy flavor. Desert was sticky rice ball with mung bean in ginger syrup. Love this taste combination. My husband and I ate here yesterday after seeing their menu online. We ordered appetizers for lunch to share. The egg rolls are small but delicious. I had the tamarind soup which was very refreshing with great quality ingredients. We also ordered the mini pancakes which we both loved. My husband got the grilled mussels and they were very good, large and plump. Our only disappointment was that they brought a sweet soy type dipping sauce instead of what menu shows. Would have been better with the red chili sauce, but we should have brought it to waiters attention and didn't. Food was all hot and fresh. Will eat there again.
