It was definitely challenging but with the right guidance and proper training I was mastering kite surfing with ease. My trainer as I stated was the best... honestly. He was incredibly kind, patient, and motivating. He gave me a lot of pointers and encouraged me the whole time. This was my first introduction to kite surfing and I plan to continue learning along the way. Trying this in Puerto Rico was incredibly memorable, as this was my first time to the island as well. Surf with a pro provides all the gear necessary to become successful , a helmet, vest to attach the kite, and the kite itself. I learned the safety protocols, and what to do if the kite flips over in the water which is incredibly important as well. At least I didn't before I met Jonathan, personal trainer/ surf instructor proprietor as DST. He met us on a conveniently located beach and not only explained how to read currents and waves, surf ethics, and surfboard anatomy, he also took the time to take my husband and I through an extensive warm up which included some strength and balance training. The waves were really unforgiving that day, but we got plenty of practice in to give us a good starting foundation. If you already know what you're doing, you can rent equipment as well (for surfing as well as other water sports). Give it a try, and reward yourself with breakfast from Pinky's on Ashford after!

SUP St. John made it so easy- they dropped off two boards and snorkel gear at the villa where we stayed and picked it all up at the end of the week. They gave lots of good tips about where to go paddling. The boards were awesome and so was the snorkel gear- including fancy Darth Vader-esque masks that allow you to breathe normally while swimming. They even set us up with a rack for our rental jeep so the boards could ride on top and go to any beach of our choice. The ability to SUP anywhere on the island made our vacation even more awesome.
