I was a bit dubious about this tour company given the reviews, but we did the hop on hop off tour around the city and had a great time. We initially got on at a stop without tickets but the bus driver just let us on, gave us headphones, and told us to pay whenever someone selling tickets got on the bus (which happened about 6 stops later). Unfortunately the upstairs was very hard to access if you're on crutches (especially if the bus is moving), and the "guided tour" is a location-based audio tour. We were stuck in traffic for a really long time between stops so we got a lot of Strauss piped to us while we waited but no information. Not the company's fault though. The other thing was that the upstairs windows don't open so they fogged up a lot with the Vienna winter air so in order to see anything at night we had to constantly wipe the condensation off. When we arrived at the opera house we also asked the guide there about the night tour, and he offered us a free ride on it which was super cool! read more

**Salzburg Day Trip** Of the 13 hours of the trip, 10 were on the bus. While technically a day trip from Vienna, I would recommend doing the trip to Salzburg on your own if you're adventurous. Salzburg is pretty compact, with most of the sights in the old partod the town. During this time of year, the town is decked out for the holiday and the Christmas market is fantastic! There were two parts of the tour: the part on the bus and the part with a local guide. Our guide on the bus led the Spanish speaking tourists while we English speaking ones had a local guide (Hans), who was awaiting us at Salzburg. While I understand Hans was probably trying to maximize our free time, I felt the tour was a bit rushed. I also felt like he was okay with losing half the group over the course of the tour. We started out with 19 and ended with 9 in the group. I wasn't sure if the others left and did their own thing or were lost. We started at the Mirabell Palace and ended in old town. At the end, we had about two hours. This was enough time to have a snack and tour the Christmas market. There wasn't enough time to go see the fortress or the Mozart museum. This tour was a good one if you need a way to get out to Salzburg and don't want to deal with the travel logistics. Next time, we will take the train and do our own thing. Not sure if this tour was worth $300 (for two people). read more

We took the 48 hours deal and it was a horrible experience. It was super hot on the bus as there was no air condition; their map is very confusing and difficult to understand: we wasted about one hour every day trying to figure it out. It took so long to arrive to the various attractions, so much that we just stopped using the bus and started using public transportation instead which was much faster and easier. It is a Yelp cliché but if I could give this company zero stars, I would. My girlfriend and her family sole desire in Vienna was to ride the Hop-On/Hop-off bus and obtain a high-level overview of the city. After researching the various options, I decided to register for the night tour of the city to take advantage of Vienna lit up at night by Christmas lights. The issues started immediately with booking tickets for four. I selected the evening tour as a group surprise and was excited to hop aboard. The website crashed while processing payment, which I was slightly annoyed with being on vacation, but I understand as an information technology professional. The error message explained that the payment had been processed, and I needed to call Customer Support. I called and was able to get ahold of a friendly representative but wasted twenty minutes going back and forth. I provided an order and reference number to the representative who could not find the number despite repeating several times and confirming the correct value. I was placed on hold for another twenty minutes and asked to provide a screenshot of the purchase from my credit card. I then proceeded to quickly take a screenshot of my phone and redact sensitive information, and upload the image through their chat portal. Finally, after an hour, the representative confirmed what I had suspected. Their system gladly charged my card, but their backend did not receive a record of my reservation. I was told the money would be refunded and to try again. The first purchase was refunded after a day, and the second attempt at booking was successful. When we arrived at the tour, we were told that the English Guide was sick and could not make our tour. There was no option for a refund or a discount, and we were told not to worry. An English Audio Guide was available. I did not worry initially at first as I had access to a Vienna Guide Book and performed some self-guided tours. My perspective was that it would be supplemental to the knowledge I knew while primarily providing an alternative viewpoint of the city at night. The tour itself was no short of a joke, and I honestly can't defend any aspect of it. The tour missed several famous Viennese sights, quickly glossed over others, and even incorrectly identified a location (Vienna State Opera). I'm willing to consider it a minor oversight, given that traffic can be nightmarish in a major city. I learned more from my self-guided tours, and I am glad to have felt validated when I heard other groups mumbling that the tour could have and should have been so much more. This was disappointing because I normally enjoy guided tours and taking a break from planning while on vacation. I felt embarrassed for my group, and had it not been for my guide book, the night could have easily been a waste missing out on this city's great cultural and historic sites. I incorrectly assumed that since this was a evening tour, most of the sights mentioned would be illuminated. The majority of the sights mentioned were barely visible, and the ones that were, you did not receive ample time to take a decent photograph. If you have the time and access to a self guided book, I implore you to explore the city on your own or find a tour company that is more personal and local to Vienna. Only if you are short on time and can accept a watered down high-level tour should this be considered a viable option. read more

HOP OFF HOP ON BUS- We always take a Hop Off Hop On Bus Tour when visiting new cities, where available. We signed up for the three day pass, and we were glad we did. This tour doesn't have a live guide, but the recorded information is very good. We learned a lot about Austria and enjoyed both the Blue and Red Route. All of the Big Bus Employees were friendly and helpful during the three days. The upper level is not completely open, but the employee we talked to said that Austria doesn't allow completely open top vehicles. The buses ran on time, for the most part. The three day ticket includes a River Cruise, which we took- it was very good. We didn't take the included Evening Tour, because it starts at 6pm, and lasts for 1 hour, and it doesn't get dark until much later. If you are visiting during hot weather, please know that the buses don't have air conditioning. Overall, we really enjoyed our tour and highly recommend it. read more

***Hop On Hop Off Bus AND Danube Valley**** We purchased our hop on hop off tickets right at the bus stop on the corner in front of the Opera House. Cost was €29.00 per person for 4 lines (red, blue, green, yellow hop on/off line) for 24 hour pass. They had different options the staff will explain to you. You cannot miss the ticket agents as they are right in front of the bus stop wearing bright yellow jackets. The bus takes you to all the major attractions. The times for when the bus arrives at each stop is posted at the stops as well as in the pamphlet they give you. Bus is great to obviously get to major attractions but if you are in a rush I would not use this option because there are much faster options available. We like to use the bus to familiarize ourselves with the city as well as for the history of the city. When you get on the bus grab your headsets plug in at your seat, choose your language. For the Danube Valley Tour you meet on the corner where the pink rabbit statue is at the Opera House. The tour is about 8.5 hours. Thomas was our tour guide and he was fantastic. Bus was a double deck bus but guide has everyone sit upstairs. Bus is comfortable but will find low ceilings for anyone tall. No USB ports/no Wi-Fi. Thomas spoke two languages on the bus. We drove through some beautiful places on the way to Melk Abbey (aka Stift Melk) stopping at Durnstein for an hour. Then to Spitz where you take a 1.5 hour boat ride to Melk Abbey. When you enter the boat you are seated at tables where there are menus for food and drink. Melk Abbey was great. Our tour guide at the Abbey was phenomenal. After the tour make sure you stop at the church, it is the most beautiful church I've ever seen and the highlight of the Abbey. Check the weather before you go. May was cold and rainy, so glad we dressed in layers and had rain gear! There is a restaurant onsite. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This is a tourist trap! The bus mostly just sits in traffic and at bus stops waiting for other passengers. You will spend more time sitting in the heat, not moving, than you will seeing sights. The "guided tour" is a recording GPS timed to say things at certain times. However, it was often not timed correctly and the info was very limited. Worst of all however, we twice pulled over and sat there for 10 to 15 minutes In the sun, with no breeze, or escape from the heat and the sweat was just pouring out of everyone. You're not allowed to bring drinks on board either! There was no communication from the driver as to why we were stopped or what was going on. He got off and we all stayed, not knowing if this was a 1 min stop or 15. We watched a nun is full robes walk from one stop to the next and get there faster than us. We got off after 35 miserable minutes that we can never get back. DONT DO IT!!!! read more

Overall, this tour isn't bad, but I'm giving it three stars because we had to wait over an hour for the bus. Vienna Sightseeing Tours does all kinds of tours that depart from Vienna. I booked a one day tour of Salzburg with my hotel. There were two options for pick up, one was at the Opera House and the other was at our hotel. The start time for the tour is 7:15. I requested to be picked up from our hotel instead of meeting at the Opera House. They told me that my pick up time is 6:15 in the hotel lobby. We got there a few minutes early, just in case. We ended up waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting. We waited so long that we thought they might have forgotten us so we asked the front desk attendant to call the company. The good news is they didn't forget about us. The bad news is they were on their way, so who knows how much longer that was going to take. Anyway, at 7:30, the bus finally arrived...an hour and 15 minutes late. Needless to say, we were not happy...at all. The bus was one of those big air conditioned ones with the plush seats. The ride to Salzburg was 4 hours long. In that time, our multilingual guide was giving us information in German, English, and Spanish. We made a stop at a store for food and souvenir. Upon arrival in Salzburg, we were split into two groups for the walking tour because there were too many of us. The informative tour lasted about two hours and then we were given the remainder of the time to explore on our own. We were to meet back at the bus at 4. On the bus ride back, they showed us The Sound of Music, which was filmed in Salzburg. We were dropped off at our hotel at around 8. Overall, I liked the tour guide and the tour, but they really needed to let us know that we were going to be the last to be picked up. We could've slept for another hour! read more

My boyfriend and I had only 24 hours in Vienna and we were looking for a walking tour to learn the most about the sites in the city during our short stay. All of the walking tours that I could find online were sold out but I came across the Hop On Hop Off Vienna Sightseeing ticket that included a free walking tour in English. There was still a tour being offered later in the day so we purchased the tickets and it seemed like the perfect combination of transportation and the walking tour to see and learn as much about the city as possible in the time frame. Sadly, this decision was a huge disappointment. We got to the tour meeting spot 20 minutes before it began. We had some lunch with us that we were eating by the meeting spot so we would be ready to go for the tour at 3:30 PM. We waited patiently next to the sign indicating the meeting point for walking tours. When it reached about 3:40 PM, we were still waiting for the tour and were not sure why it was so late. We went and asked the employees for the company in yellow shirts and they told us that the tour had already left. We never heard anyone announce that the tour was leaving and we were very upset as this was the reason we purchased the tickets in the first place. We went back up to the employees and tried to explain that we were there early, never heard the tour leave and bought the tickets specifically for the walking tour and asked if there was a way we could get any kind of refund. Instead of having any empathy or being apologetic, the staff was all very unsympathetic and rude back to us. "Too bad, you can just go on the tour tomorrow." We decided to continue to ride the bus routes to make the most of our purchase. Unfortunately, things kept going downhill from there. We walked to the second stop, which is where the red and yellow lines are supposed to make stops. We waited for about 15 minutes to get on the Yellow bus to find out that the Yellow bus was not stopping at that stop for some reason and there was no indication on the map that it would not be stopping there. Many of the headphone jacks on the bus also did not function properly. The sound would go in and out or would not work altogether. At one point while riding the green route, I became extremely thirsty. I saw that there was a sign at the front of the bus for water for sale and was so excited to easily buy some so I would not have to get off the bus. When we walked up to the driver to purchase a bottle, he told us that the bus didn't have water. That would have been fine if it was not advertised! Also, if you pay close attention to the driving route and the route that is printed on the map, it is often different. The bus does not stick to the actual route and this caused many of the audio recordings to not even match up to what we were passing. When purchasing the tickets and throughout the bus, it is heavily advertised that there is free wifi on the bus. The wifi only worked for me on the bus about half of the time which is extremely disappointing since the company uses this as one of the main selling points. Finally, for a double decker tour bus, you would hope that the driver would drive at a calm pace to allow the guests to really take in the scenery of Vienna. However, the bus drove extremely fast and aggressive and it was hard to even catch a glimpse of sights. When the bus drove by trees (the green line particularly has a lot of trees on the route), it would drive so fast that the branches would come in through the upper windows and snap off. It seemed dangerous if someone was to have been sitting right where the branches would have come in. Overall, I completely regret purchasing tickets from this company for what seemed like a perfect idea at the time for my 24 hour stay. I would like to point out that I work as a Hospitality Agent for a large business at home and deal with customer service every day and it is not too much to ask for the bare minimum for what was promised with the ticket. read more

Vienna to Salzburg Bus Tour. Beware, you're on the bus for 9 hours, including a 30 minute stop each way at greasy-spoon tourist traps. Your visit in Salzburg lasts 3 hours, including a one hour walking tour that was basically worthless. Four Sound of Music songs played on a loop for the last 2 hours of the trip. Do yourself a favor and book a round-trip train ticket for 1/3 the price and you'll have the opportunity to see beautiful Salzburg on your own terms. The tour guide was nice, but he was the only one of two who spoke Spanish, so he took a small group of 6 or 7 while another took about 30 of us through the noisy section of town (could not hear anything he said). read more

We have been on numerous excursions in our past, but this was possibly the worst tour yet. Like the previous review, we booked thru the hotel and waited well past our pickup time for the hop to the bus yard. We were among the last to arrive and didn't have much seating to pick from. Luckily this was a Vienna city tour, so no mountain roads to make us sick in the back. That was the most positive part of the sightseeing company. We should have been on guard when we asked the guide how he was doing, and he said bad. This was not only going to be his bad day. The tour was billed as an English speaking tour, but it was bi-lingual; maybe 2/3 German, and 1/3 English. Unfortunately most of that was not worth listening to. The street tour was blocked by trams and trucks. When there were openings, the guide talked about the various landmarks but rambled with innocuous comments that left us wondering what building he was referring to and why it was significant. We were hoping that the Schönbrunn tour was going to have a pre-recorded headset, but were disappointed that our bus guide was talking (more in German than English) again to us. Same results, of course, leaving us asking who the people were in the portraits and busts and which century they represented. There was little background offered as to the significance of the people or events of that era and why we were there. The brochure said we would have time at the Belvedere Palace to see the world's largest Klimt exhibit but we barely had time to walk to the back for more marginal information. That was probably due the long queue back at the Schönbrunn that could have been avoided had we been offered to leave our backpacks in the bus. These had to be checked before entry and thank goodness it did not cost extra. In all, the guide should have tipped us at the end of the trip. It was a waste of over 4 hours and 88€. If you pick this company, hopefully you get a different guide. We will not sign up with Vienna again. read more

Had a day trip to Salzburg booked, they wouldn't confirm pick up from hotel time but showed up at 630 am expecting me to be ready for a 715 am tour and then left when I wasn't immediately ready. Called company directly where a man screamed at me for five minutes, half German half English yelling from what I could make out, then hung up on me. We had two tours with Vienna Sightseeing. We declined the 'pickup at hotel' option since we were so close to the pickup stop at the Vienna train station. However, first day we had a little trouble finding their bus since we were kinda expected some signage or such. It was the last stops as far as the station as could be, with an ugly little green structure holding their 'office'. Both guides we had were good, the trips were OK. First was the "CITY TOUR & SCHÖNBRUNN PALACE" one, it was OK, seems like you could go to Schonbrunn on your own and save some $$, although we got to see some of the city as well, but they tell you you skip the line to get the tour, so there's that. The other was the "DANUBE VALLEY" day tour, bus/boat combo to Melk Abbey. The bus ride was beautiful when along the river, the boat ride was intermittently beautiful and boring, and the Abbey is amazing. In all, a decent couple tours, but thinking I might rather just tour Vienna more on foot and see if there's a way to get to the Abbey a little quicker. read more

Be careful if u take a tour from Hotel. I had a nightmare experience. My hotel booked a Salzburg day trip for me. The company sent a van to pick me up from Hotel, to get me to the meeting point. However, on return in the evening, they dumped me and other passengers at the meeting point and asked us to walk back to our hotels in the extremely cold and raining weather at night. The driver and guide were extremely rude and even suggested that if we cant walk, take local tram. I had no clue on how to ride a tram and took me two hours after changing multiple trams, most of which were on incorrect routes to get back to hotel at 10Pm, tired and hungry. In the hind sight should have taken a cab back, but was so disoriented after a long day and could not think straight. I was not even dressed for the cold weather and could have gotten sick as well. These guys never advertised or told me that pick up from Hotel is included, but not the drop off. read more

This tour was the worst. The person who gave the tour was a miserable woman. I sat directly behind her and every time I pointed and said something to my husband or group, she shot us a dirty look. She should have started the tour by stating there was no talking allowed. On our return from Schonbrunn Palace she did the same to another group. The tour of Schonbrunn was very short. 80 minutes max. You could barely understand the guided tour. Would never recommend! read more
