We flew through Vienna from Florence to Podgorica. The airport itself is modern and clean and seemed large as we navigated from gate to gate. We booked a flight through Austrian Airlines which gave us a 25 minute transfer time but the gate was set to close 10 minutes after our arrival time. We were told the gates are situated right next to each other so we hoped to make the connection. However, when we landed we had to exit the plane outside the terminal and then hop on a shuttle bus to get to the terminal. At that point we literally ran to our gate, which took 15 minutes once inside so we arrived one minute before departure and missed the flight. The next flight was NINE hours later. (Coming back we had 40 minutes to connect and ran through the same drill with about two minutes to spare before the doors closed but fortunately the flight was delayed.) While waiting around the airport all day, we watched several people get yelled at by a Café Vienna clerk for trying to use the WiFi at the tables while she was closing. The café is situated between two gates so it was convenient and, in my opinion, did no harm. I understand not wanting people to sit at tables when they are closed but to sit in a gate chair with your device plugged into a bank beneath an open chair seems reasonable. Overall, this airport provided a very stressful travel experience.

We flew in and out of VIE from LAX, out to VCE and back in from FLR on a recent trip. Things were smooth all the way around. Zero complaints. On our way home I needed to drop by the Global Blue area to deal with Tax Free stuff and I guess messed up after using the self service box and being told it was all approved. I couldn't locate where I'd put my receipts and didn't have the patience to stand in line for more than 5 minutes so I just dropped my stuff in the box without a customs stamp. I later asked at another counter after security if they'd pay it without a stamp and was told no. I explained I've never gotten a stamp in other airports but was told I'd needed one. I wasn't going to fret over a couple hundred dollars but was a tad bit bummed it needed to be difficult. Well... here we are a week later and I just received a text saying my refund was issued. This isn't a tip to say not to wait, my papers may have been completed in a different manner but I did get a refund (or I will in 2-5 days) without the customs stamp. If you're not dealing with Tax Free stuff, disregard all of the above and just know it's an airport where things seem to run quite smooth and easy. All in all, good experience at this airport and very cute Lego guy in the duty free. As a huge Lego fan I always appreciate spotting the creations some of the euro duty free shops have. He was a little tourist guy. Very cute.

One of many favorite airports I've been too. With a long layover this place had some great places to eat and rest. Enjoyed some schnitzel and a Vienna beer in a restaurant by our gate. Food was fantastic, even though it's an airport. Also enjoyed a soft pretzel sandwich for the flight. Great seating areas with modern amenities such as charging stations for guests. Signs and screens were everywhere helping to communicate all information for travelers from all over the world. Staff here were friendly and helpful.

Easy to navigate. Most of the staff are friendly , except for Austrian airlines If you plan to get tax refunds, need to plan out additional hr just to be safe. Go early for duty free shopping, they have lots good stuff there. As for vip lounge, the Vienna lounge is one of the best priority lounges i've been to. Super spacious, has variety types of seatings. Not crowded most of the time. Large selections of drinks and foods. Friendly service. Conveniently located upstairs right outside of duty-free exit. And has its own direct elevator. if you use the priority app , directions to this lounge. It's clearly stated & very easy to find.
Vienna International Airport is a compact facility with everything you could want or need within reach. The process of arriving at the terminal was easy. The check in desk's, security very tight day to navigate. It is a major bonus if you have FassPass & a business airline ticket. I know I'm very lucky. However, the process here is seamless. read more
Easy to navigate. I transferred through Vienna to get to Croatia. I ordered a pretzel and used the restroom. The restroom was clean and easy to find. Overall, it was a convenient transfer. read more
Relatively easy international airport to navigate. Both my trips through here were uneventful. Star Alliance partner lounge was very good; it was huge with plenty of amenities. Many other dining and shopping options were available. Gate areas are comfortable and well run. read more
Airport code VIE. Overall, this airport is spotlessly clean and well laid out. Staff are friendly and helpful. Security is polite, thorough, efficient and very professional. It's a little far from downtown Vienna but so are a lot of airports in other major cities. Uber took about a half hour to the city center. Mass transit at 6:00pm on a Thursday was looking like an hour plus. Get ride share on the second floor arrivals level of the terminal. We had a driver the moment we hit the button. They are allowed to stand and wait for fares. Overall, VIE is a well thought out, efficient and clean airport. My one complaint is in T1. There are no signs pointing to the bathrooms. Sure there is signage on the bathroom doors. But nothing pointing you in the right direction. For the record one set of bathrooms are in the waiting area at the beginning of the terminal and the other all the way at the other end of the concourse by gate 22-23. Look for the water fountain; its around the corner from that. There are signs for everything pointing you in the correct direction, but not the bathrooms. Weird. Recommend. read more
This was our end destination on a recent trip. There may be much of the airport that we didn't experience, but here were my general observations. It was relatively easy to find your way from the gate (upon arrival) to the train station to get into Vienna. I think it was entirely walkable, i.e. no bus or in-airport train involved. The terminals were compartmentalized. You could only stay in your one terminal without exiting through security. This was fine, unless (as in our case) you wanted to seek out some other desk that had an active flight with your airline, and there were none in your terminal. Not a big deal, but a minor restriction. There were a couple of shops near the gates where salespeople tried to walk out and engage you for credit cards or perfumes. That isn't something I usually see at airports. They had a decent selection of foods / beverages for sale in the terminal. Some of the gates are on a lower level. This came into play when we had to take a shuttle bus out to our plane. The upper level gates don't have a lot of space for people to queue up, so the space in between rows of seats (where you are waiting for a plane) fill up at intervals as earlier flights board. read more

Easy to navigate, even at 5 am. Our entire gate wasn't open that early (which was crazy to me given our flight was at 6:20 am), but we have lounge access so we went to the lounge. Lounge was spacious, clean, quiet, and had a lovely breakfast spread. One of the better lounges I've been to. So much seating! Gate agents were friendly and effective during the check-in and boarding process. Only took a cursory glance at the cafes, shops, and duty-free but it all seemed nice enough at that early hour. read more
Overall decent airport. Fairly quick security. Gates are not typically assigned until about 30 minutes before boarding. But you do have a general sense of what terminal you need to be in. Announcements are in both German and English. read more
I've traveled through VIE a few times now. Passport control has always been quick and efficient. There are quite a few shops and cafes to choose from. I was not allowed in to the lounge once on a layover but I found a bank of chairs and was able to rest. They also have solo restrooms if you're in need of one for whatever reason. I didn't realize it was a solo until I walked in! read more
7 Years Later, we flew into VIE from Chicago on Austrian Airlines. We were here to board a Viking River Cruise, after clearing Passport Control of course. That went smoothly, albeit with a couple of tight hallways. Baggage Claim and Viking Pickup all went well. read more

Super clean! Wow, Vienna, I'd visit and stay longer to explore your city. The system though going through security checks was so disappointing and disorganized. Need improvement how to get people to line up smoothly. The security people failed us during the process. 3 stars for cleanliness. read more

One of the best European airports I've gone through. The check in process was easy to navigate. The VAT Refund Center was right where one is dropped off, so is very easy to locate. The VAT process is by far the most efficient and can be done electronically at a kiosk or through your mobile device. The train station is located in the lower level. Trains run regularly to Vienna center--one can take the S-Bahn (2.70 euro one way) or the high speed train for a bit more. We decided on an Uber on our return trip (about 35 euro with tip). This is my new favorite European airport! read more
My mother and I visited Vienna back in March and the airport was good, international airport, albeit very busy. Everything was clearly marked and we didn't have to waste time figuring out where to go. All in all, I wouldn't worry if I had to transit through this airport in the future. read more

Nice, quiet, modern airport, at least the time I visited. I had an unexpected layover here (4 hours) due to a strike in another country. I had to change planes here or not reach my destination that day. So, obvious choice it was! The transfer was fast, I had no trouble finding my gates, my way around the airport, staff was very nice to me, decent food options, nice stores. Big gates areas with lots of seating. Clean all around (restrooms included), comfortable, it made it for a nice, calm layover for me! read more
The Vienna Airport is clean and easy-to-navigate. Flying in from D.C., passport control was smooth and quick. Our bags came fast. There's a train to the city center that takes 15 minutes or you can grab an Uber from the second floor after you exit the baggage claim area. read more

A clean modern airport. It's not too far from the city center. Transportation to the city You can easily and quickly access the city center by public transportation (e.g., train). If you do not want to drag your luggage onto the train, there are several airport transfer service companies (right outside the baggage claim area). Uber is also available. You need to go up to the departure level (Terminal 3). There's no ride share pickup signage. I ended up take an Uber, and it was cheaper than airport transfer. Tip: It seems it's common for taxi drivers to also drive for Uber. When I requested a ride, it's to my surprise, a taxi pulled up and it was my ride. I prefer Uber over a taxi as you know the fare ahead of time. Also, everything is tracked (e.g., the route taken and the fare paid). read more
I had a layover here from America. My friend was coming from Copenhagen to catch the same flight in VIE with me. While it was pretty easy to navigate, it's a really strange airport. I was coming from the D gates and to get to my final gate I had to go through some strange empty hallways. Ignoring this, my friend and I enjoyed our four hour layover. We went to a really beautiful cafe decorated with vines. I was happy to order a coffee with soy milk, while she got an Aperol Spritz. I was also thrilled to get some of my favorite Mozart chocolates. We then went back to the D gates to get some delicious looking pretzel sandwiches. Unfortunately, they were a bit cold and dry. However, the fresh orange juice I got was incredible. Although this airport has a strange layout, it's pretty easy to get around and has some great drink options. read more

I expected better from this airport. Note that I only went to this airport while leaving, not entering, through it. What was difficult was the lack of signage. To find your way out to baggage claim, you keep walking down very long, narrow hallways, and the signs just basically orient you toward the exit for a while, without any other signs displaying other options. By the time we got closer to the baggage claim, there were a few signs showing you where to go. This probably ranks in the bottom 25% of all airports I've ever been to, in terms of amount of signage and help with navigation. Many European airports have smoking lounges, which are always surprising to me! But they keep the smell contained usually (best example being Munich Airport). Here, it felt like everywhere I was in the airport, there was a cigarette smell! It was not fun to be super disoriented after two flights, one being 8 hours, and have to smell cigarettes. read more

Avoid this 3rd world old maze of steps and hallways. Most of the airport help is rude and unfriendly and of no help. Most planes use stairs that take 10 minutes to move to the plane. Buses take another 20 minutes to get to terminal because of poor drivers that take pleasure in making you miss your connection. Passport control for making a connecting flight to another country a real bottleneck delaying you another 20 minutes. Need 2 hours between connections minimum and whatever you do don't use Austrian Airline. read more
Used VIE during the Christmas holidays. Flew into VIE on LOT before Christmas. Since I had a connection in Poland, I cleared EU customs there. When I landed at VIE in the late afternoon, I walked straight to baggage claim. There I purchased a round trip CAT ticket to get me to and from the city. Seriously I think I waited 10 minutes for my luggage. They were either incredibly fast or no one on the plane had bags but me. Easy to follow signs get you out of the airport. After the new year I came back through. CAT back to the airport, but followed the sign marked HOTEL. I had an early morning flight and thought it better to be close by. From the airport to the Moxy just follow the sign. You will walk underground almost the entire way to the hotel, about .3 mile. You pop up across the Cory from the entrance. Next morning took the tunnel back and checked the flight info board. I was at check in from hotel in 15 minute walk. Security was quick, if you travel without liquids and a belt. Clean airport. Most restrooms require stairs. Plenty of boards to check gates and flight status. read more

Vienna Airport is a great place with unique coffee shops and places to grab a bite to eat. You can find beer, pretzels, and even fresh salads. We landed here, and everything went smoothly--our bags came out fast, and the bathrooms were clean. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. read more

Absolute disaster in terms of managing crowd. Be sure to add extra 2 hours to your planned time for check-in. In my case spent I hour in BA baggage drop. Then another hour at ... passport control. Seriously? Couldn't they combine passport control with security check as everybody else does? They do everything possible for you to miss your flight. Very bad experience with VIE. read more
VIE was a mixed bag for us. In some ways service and amenities were good but as it worked overall it was only average. Our biggest issue was dropping off a rental car for an early flight out...it was a major pain and involved a lot of walking to get back to the terminal. This was a bit of a surprise given the overall efficiency we found everywhere else in Austria. read more

This is the main airport for Austria. Its design fairly modern and simple. The airport is much better than both airports in Berlin. But yet a bit behind compared to some international top airports. I've been here time to time over the years, the duty free shops still a bit pricey than others I visited. To also have more charging stations around, so travellers can easier to get some justice for thier devices. The airport itself is really easy to get by, all the important information are in sight. The curved design of the airport made it memorable. I also tried some lounges of different airlines. Quite nice, great to relax a bit and get soemthing to eat between the connection flights. There also couple restaurants and shops around, so you can also get something to drink or eat there. Well, it is in airport though, everything is naturally more expensive than usual. read more
Food at Jamie Oliver's bar by F Gates has decent prices on beer on draft. Food is goodfor the value. There are plenty if wall outets to recharge. Im updating my review as this time I had a long layover and spent some time at the bar. In the course of an hour I witnessed difficult, rude, demanding & annoying patrons. So please tip these awesome bartenders for all the Sh!!!t they have to deal with! Had the day soup which was cream of mushroom homemade and delicious!! Order the .5l versus small beer as its cheaper that way. read more
The airport was pure chaos. That said, once we got past the absolutely stupid humans trying to travel, we were treated extremely well by the check in staff. Very nice, especially given the hell we watched them endure with very hostile passengers trying to check in! Once through the chaos, the airport was warm and open. Gates are exceptionally small especially for international travelers! My take away of two stars has nothing to do with the any of that, but everything to do with the absolutely lousy gate staff at our gate (G16). Not only was herding completely mishandled but after booking our seats in advance for the flight and PAYING EXTRA for more up front seats, the staff arbitrarily moved us to the back of the plane 'so a family' could be together. So the message here is that you get rewarded for not booking soon enough and seasoned travelers get screwed out of money and the seats we booked. No one asked, no one offered any accommodation, no nothing. If you have ANY choices of air travel make sure NONE of them are Austrian Air! You'll get screwed out of money and your seats! read more
I landed at the crack of 8 o'clock to a completely empty airport. My favorite kind. Faced with a 4 hour layover, I quickly scoped out my sleeping options. Praise Lawd, there are couches! Granted, they are right in the middle of the corridor, but there. are. couches. With a slanted side to create a sort of pillow and smooth faux leather, they provide ample comfort for airport napping. 2 hours later the airport became more lively as other passengers milled around and additional airport staff clocked in. Growing hungry, I left my snooze spot in search of sustenance. I found a small cafe offering a variety of sandwiches and sides. I snagged a chicken schnitzel sandwich and an espresso, paying almost a Euro for a small tube of mayo. Perched at a small round table, I munched and people watched. Upon finishing my brunch, I found a bathroom. It was one of the tiniest bathrooms I've ever seen in an airport. Two stalls and barely enough space to fit a small trolley bag into. Think thin thoughts! The one downside to the airport was there were no water fountains. I've grown accustomed to US airports where these exist aplenty, but I've yet to find a European airport (except maybe LHR, but it's been a couple of years since I've been there) that offers free water. Help us stay hydrated airports! Our plane dry skin begs you! read more
Nice and clean airport, smaller than what you would expect for a major European capital, which makes it even nicer. Plenty of shops and restaurants, and very reliable free wifi. The one thing that could be improved is air conditioning, a little week in some areas. read more
Similar to Zürich's airport, this is very nice, well laid out and just such a nice change from US airports. I'm really not sure what the major malfunctions of US airports are, but these guys in Europe know what they're doing. It's clean, employees are pleasant, and it makes traveling a little less like traveling, if that makes sense? read more
