You all led me to this small, local business and you were spot-on, so I am paying it forward by adding my review! My family had our pipes freeze in the winter storm this Christmas. Friday, it was the cold water pipe, which took seven hours of work to unfreeze. We thought we were in the clear and counted our blessings as we kept the cold water running overnight Friday -- only to discover Saturday around noon that the hot water pipe was now frozen solid. Twelve straight hours of effort with hair dryers, space heaters, boiling water pots, heating pad wraps and everything else we could think of did not work and we went to sleep Christmas Eve defeated, wondering how we were hosting the rest of my family on Christmas with no hot water, dishwasher, etc. (Our efforts did eventually pay off with the hot water coming on at 8 a.m. Christmas morning and no pipes bursting. So grateful.) During this nightmare I called a number of plumbers who list themselves as emergency 24/7 plumbers, but only Gary from Brickhaas called back. He called during the span of time that I thought everything was under control, but I asked if we could be booked for later in the week to unclog a bathroom drain I've had a problem with lately. Glad I booked them as, after the pipes thawed, the under sink drain was leaking slightly so Dominic was able to take a look at both of these things today. He called with a 20-minute heads up on his arrival, efficiently took care of the clogged sink and an aerator that was limiting water flow, installed a new kitchen sink trap assembly (which he said I could honestly take or leave; I appreciated the honesty but opted to replace for my own peace of mind), and offered solid advice about what we might do if plans to better insulate those water pipes in the future didn't work out re: rerouting the pipes from their current, poor location. He was highly knowledgeable, didn't hard sell anything and I absolutely got his card as I'll be calling them for future plumbing needs. Yelp comes through, as usual!

I called them at 9 when it said that they opened, they had a technician out to me by 11. My guy Michael came out and within 20 minutes he knew what was wrong. He didn't have the exact part for my furnace, but he rushed back to their shop and got me what I needed. He had my heat up and running by 2:00 pm. It cost me about $400 and he replaced some kind of black fan and blower inside of my furnace. He was curtius and I'm warm now no complaints here.

Even though I subscribed to an annual plan, they charge a fee for any services outside of those for overview of service to maintain the household. It is my own fault for not asking more questions and reading between the lines... but DO NOT be sucked into an annual plan. It does not provide you with anything other than coming out to check your units. They will not even assess a job/other problem without a fee.

The HVAC technician recently discovered that there was a leak in the furnace causing a lot of corrosion. Fair, that definitely needs to be fixed. I was told that the combustion blower motor and a plastic casing need to be replaced but luckily the parts are under warranty. Silly me, without doing my due diligence, I agreed to a $1600 repair. But the more I thought about it and the more quotes I got from other companies and the more research I did, I realized I was getting completely ripped off! If the parts are under warranty, how the heck was the labor costing $1600 for what the technician said was a 2-hour job??! To make matters worse, they were evasive whenever I asked for an itemized invoice or more details about the labor. It took several days to get the technician to contact me. Unfortunately I've already paid them $800 and they keep 35% even in the event of a refund, so I'm still losing money in this, but I had no choice but to cancel this job. I will not be working with Calfo again. THEY OVERCHARGE EVEN THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHO PAY FOR VIP SERVICE. I've realized they've been "finding" issues and overcharging for years. Even some other local companies mentioned to me that Calfo is notorious for inflating rates. DON'T USE CALFO UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET OVERCHARGED FOR EVERYTHING.
