Video Games Plus is a competitor to EB in that they sell video games, as well as some retro goods. However, as many others have pointed out, the service is kind of atrocious. I was having a hard time tracking down a physical copy of the Lunar Remaster and was told by a kind employee at EB that it's only really sold at Video Games Plus if I wanted a physical copy. It's far from where I am in Newmarket, but I figured, why not. I called ahead of time to confirm they'll have a copy, and the employee really didn't sound like he wanted to answer questions. Fine, I'm just going to get a game. We went the morning of, at opening, because I wasn't sure if a) they'd have more a few copies and b) how popular it was going to be. They opened half an hour late and the employee, who I think is the same one I talked to previously, really didn't seem like he wanted to be there. We got my game and left. I'm a little surprised I got it at the same price that I've seen online because a lot of their other selections were far too expensive that I'd consider buying any of it. Some of the cases didn't look like they'd been taken care of and, while store was tidy, I can't say it was very organized. Not sure how you can screw up so much in a short time, but they did. I feel like they could go under at some point because they probably aren't competing with EB, and am physical store for overpriced retro stuff is a hard thing to keep up with. But maybe the clerk wouldn't care anyway. read more

On my second order with them I purchase several games for black Friday. I got my delivery late (which was understandable as there was a post Canada strike going on at the time). The games arrived on december 24th, while I was with my in-laws for Christmas. The packages were left on my front door which is directly on a busy street (I never gave my consent for this). Obviously the packages got stolen by the time I was able to come back. I message them and they told me they "would investigate the issue and get back to me". No answers, I send several email throughout the months requesting an Update and got pretty much the same message every time. Very poor customer service, if you have an issue or received a damaged order they treat you awful, very rude and unresponsive. VGP is scammy company and they're also scalpers they charge over retail price for certain games. They take forever to ship. They lie and claim they ship within 2-3 days, tracking proves shows accepted 6 days after order was placed. Overall a terrible company. read more

Don't buy here, these people are very scammy. First of all, notice that their official policy is "no refunds". You may be confused because their website shows a refund and return policy, but whether you're cancelling the order they never ship, or returning 1 minute later in identical condition, they only give store credit. Which presumably you could use for another order they will not ship. After arguing with customer support, and threatening to contact my credit card company instead, they offered a refund minus 5% for their "fees" (reputable companies don't charge until they ship, thus avoiding this type of thing), and just to be done with this I agreed. Instead they refunded only 66% of the original cost (far cry from 95%), with no further responses from them on the matter, so I have to go deal with my credit card company anyway. Basically if you want no product, no money and a bunch of hassle, give them a try. read more

This company has the absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered. It has been nothing but aggravating to order games from them. I have only bought two things from them, both pre-orders. Neither were sent out by street date. The first one, Kentucky Route Zero, didn't show as shipped on my profile well after it had already released. When I inquired about it the rep said the website was just wrong, and changed it to shipped on the website (without apparently checking if it had shipped). It had not been shipped. Weeks and weeks later it still hadn't arrived. I contacted them again and they said "COVID delays" - I asked them to check if it had actually shipped because the rep had just changed it to shipped in the system, and they just kept repeating "COVID delays" - weeks later, still hadn't arrived. I asked them to send a replacement, it arrived within a week. The first copy never arrived, of course, because it was never shipped! Now, I am still waiting for my order of What the Golf to ship. When I inquired about why it showed as "processing" on my profile, I happened to mention that this was the second time a preorder of mine had not been shipped according to the date on the website. The rep responded to correct me that KR0 had arrived... which yes, it did, but I was referring to the nightmare of having to spend hours of my time begging for the company to ACTUALLY SEND the game I paid for. I clarified that yes, it had eventually arrived, but it had been a nightmare to actually get it and I was worried about that happening again Then another rep responded to that email to say: "We are sorry to hear that we were experiencing delays with Canada Post due to COVID. Sorry it usually does update on our website but due to all the delays my purchaser removed the game from our site. Thanks, Steve Customer Service Representative VIDEOGAMESPLUS.CA" So, first of all this is gaslighting me. There was no COVID delay cause KR0 had shipped. Secondly, I made it clear that my inquiry was about "What the Golf" and I get this cryptic nonsense?! I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR THE GAME. Am I getting a refund? Is it going to be sent to me? I have no idea, because these customer service reps don't communicate in a competent way. Buying videogames should be fun, not a customer service nightmare. Some workers are nice, some are extremely rude. You can walk in there and go unnoticed at the front cash while they just stare at their phone. Extremely rude and condescending boss, talks down to you constantly. Some good deals to be found but nothing you can't get elsewhere. If you're looking for a friendly game store for repeat business, look elsewhere. read more

Seeing other reviews and reading their stories had me a little worried going in but I still gave them a shot. First things first, it was smaller then I thought, second they use the space very well. I didn't have any issues looking around. Everything was broken down into sections . They had a large selection of retro, accessories, and after market which made me happy. Along with a solid preorder bonus system that's kinda like a mccafe stamp card. The staff isn't like eb or other places, you could tell this was a friend based store. These are real gamers which is great for me because you could talk any game and it's like talking with your buddies. As a gamer this is a must visit store. As a collector this is your best shot at some classics. read more

I worked here in the summer of 2013. This is by far the most toxic and disgusting work environment I've ever been in. The guy who works behind the counter most days is outwardly rude and disrespectful to customers. He rips people off and would regularly and knowingly purchase defective 3DS consoles and sell them to customers at full price. On a personal level, the background to the shared work computer was a naked woman. When I said it made me uncomfortable, especially being the only woman to work there, he threatened me: "Just remember, you're new here." He would often belittle me in front of customers and would scream at me for minor mistakes. There are a million other video game stores to give your money to. Don't give it to VGP. read more

These folks have, without a doubt, the largest collection of collectors editions and other rare gaming paraphernalia, that I have seen in Toronto. They're professional, have a great online web presence, and lots of stock. They are a true local gaming store, like Gamerama at Yonge & Eglinton. These folks are a little more "retail friendly" than gamerama is, which to most is probably a good thing for most. If you're looking for a place to go and buy games, go here. I get all my pre-orders from these guys. :) They don't strike me as big of "gaming enthusiasts" as gamerama is, however - If you're a hardcore gamer looking to have a real experience shopping with your peer group, gamerama is the place to go. But for everyone else? Video Games Plus (VGP) should be your first choice. You won't be disappointed. read more

The store clerks are very rude and mean. They belittled me because a lot of times I looked for games in the bargain section. One day I asked what was better, SONIC 4 in 1 or SONIC COLOURS for DS. I was told 4 in 1. I paid 17 went home and the game was broken. Got back to store and they almost refused to let me back because they said they were closed. Finally they let me in and I switched the game for COLOURS because it was same price. The clerk mocked me and demonstrates the game. I told him I knew how to play. But the other would not work because Sonic was moving without me pressing button. The manager is very belittling. read more

I pre-ordered Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii U in early April using a credit card. The game does not come out until September 22 in North America. The website advertises paying on shipment if a credit card is used. This is the default virtually everywhere these days. I did look for an option to enable/disable payment date and did not see it so I assumed this was the default option on the site as well. Unfortunately, my credit card was charged $82.08 immediately. I did not wish to spend that much money that far ahead of release, so I cancelled my pre-order. VGP kept $4.11 of my money. At no time was such a policy made apparent to me. I sent an email explaining the situation and requesting my money back, threatening to contact my credit card company about the deceit if VGP did not comply. I received a response essentially telling me that I was out of luck; VGP had no intention of refunding the money. I contacted my credit card company and they promptly refunded the money. I explained the situation, and they agreed that the obfuscation and outright withholding of information was deceitful and possibly illegal. I would avoid this store. They will rarely be a dollar or two cheaper than amazon, but amazon is usually cheaper and has vastly superior policies. Even EB Games/Gamestop is a better choice. read more
