I wanted this location to be my go to because it's around my area but they're pricing their products 30% above market value and it's ripping people off. I went there and the attendant was saying that the market had gone up. So I still spent a good amount of money for the benefit of the doubt but l got home and triple checked the market value of the items that I purchased and it actually dropped significantly in market value. I'm confident to say that they have the highest pricing around Toronto in terms of buying from them! Very disappointed! read more

My jaw literally dropped when I walked inside. It's one of the biggest baddest retro gaming stores I have ever seen in my life! A whole wall of punny video game t-shirts, lots of old merchandise, enthusiastic, motivated and nerdy staff.... I could go on and on. I had a wonderful time exploring this store! There's a section in the back with a bunch of tables and chairs for tabletop gaming such as cards, board games, etc. If I didn't have to worry about traveling on a plane, there are many things in that store I could've purchased. I was in Toronto for vacation. I went to get a gift for my friend and to relive her nostalgic gaming memories, I walked in hoping to buy a Game Boy Pocket. They had ample in stock. I took it home but found some dead pixels on the screen (it's natural for these devices as they age). So in a hurry I went back to get it exchanged. The staff was very helpful in my problem and swiftly exchanged my unit for one in better condition. And I can't forget about the sheer amount of stuff they have in the store. Think of any system, and they'll most likely have it there as well as an assortment of games. Huge shoutout to the staff there too - a nice red-haired woman helped me with looking at the games and the enthusiastic manager who was understanding and is clearly having fun running this business. If you want a place for retro games, this store will satisfy you and then some. 5/5 read more

Lately I have been kind of obsessed with old-school games and gaming systems. I blame it on all those awesome beercades that have been popping up everywhere. Anyway, I recently bought a system so I am busy restocking my collection of classic games. When I travel I always look for game stores which brought me to A&C Games. Located in Chinatown, I wasn't sure what to expect, but first and foremost- this store is pretty huge. A&C features more than just video games, they have a huge selection of cards and games of that variety too. They sell various shirts and other random merchandise. They have a wide variety of consoles and games to match. Higher priced games might be found behind the glass counter- Like that Mike Tyson's Punch out. Overall I thought the games were a little pricey, but if I lived here I'm sure i would be buying from them all the time. Average game that I looked at was $19 CAD. They have a game testing area to make sure your vintage game isn't so vintage it doesn't work, which I think is great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely a cool shop. Bouge-y place that won't let you trade in games without an appointment and an email process. Decent selection i guess and prices are okay, but staff was unhelpful and told me to go home and email them instead of actually trying to help. Exhausting. read more

They charge 10 dollars to test to see if your game system works. They charge 10 dollars to plug your game in if you don't have Cables. They don't care about the community, just the different ways they can make a buck. "But it's a business!" Sure. And I'm allowed to find business practices pathetic and grasping. GG read more

I used to live right next to the old location - since they've moved to Spadina/College: 1. The prices are MUCH higher (sometimes more than 100% higher than ebay/kijiji, I've noticed) 2. The staff often doesn't give you as much attention as they used to 3. I've found that they open late - in fact I just called to ask a question and they weren't open yet and its 11.40am (they open at 11, it says) 4.I've actually purchased games that have stopped working AFTER their "warranty", and they have refused to take them back - but they did offer me store credit in the amount of less than half of what I paid for the game (insulting) 5. When you do get through on the phone the employees (not all, but some) are often rude and seem rushed like you're not important to them 6. Its busier in the store (which is good for them I guess) but sometimes you have to wait for quite a while to pay once you've selected the game, or to ask someone to let you test it. 7.They have individual n64 cartridges there for $300.00+. (I have the same at home and asked how much they would pay, they said 50$ in store credit, which is also an insult as mine is in mint condition in the box. Oh well) A Zelda game for example - is one that came WITH your N64 when you bought it, and you got the whole system and controller etc. for less than that WITH the game. Its a good place to go if you're looking for a pretty face to talk to about old video games, but otherwise don't bother. read more

A&C definitely has a good selection, but their prices are absolutely ridiculous. I suppose this is because online sellers don't have the overhead of payroll & rent -- but if you DO have those overheads, then you need to have something else to draw people in. Bad customer service, dismissive staff that clearly just want to be left alone, and prices that are double or triple online prices... it just doesn't add up. not impressed with this place, for a couple of reasons numerous times coming to this place when it opens, only for the store opener to be late, sometimes 5 minutes, all the way to 45 minutes, this is highly un-accecptable and a very bad business practise, second, theyre very rude over the phone when youre asking to check something is in stock thats not listed with the website/inventory page. not sure what high horse these employees are on, but i'll never be back. read more

Location good, unbelievable selection, and service is also great. The video game prices are just okay maybe due to rent and employing many people. Main advantage over kijiji seems to be you can test the game in store. Otherwise if you can find it on kijiji you will save $. I would like to say the games are nice and clean but doesn't seem like they clean the games at all when they get pre-owned inventory. Which is ok I don't think many other game stores do that. I've bought 2 N64 and 1 SNES game here and had to spend more time than I would like cleaning off who knows what. Used dozens of q tips and alot of isopropyl... Got much cleaner stuff from kijiji and ebay. read more

When it comes to used or old video games, this is a decent place to visit. There's lot of merchandise of various types if you're into console gaming. I didn't purchase anything on my visit but browsed the selection of merchandise and enjoyed the atmosphere. read more

They rent games which is excellent. You pay the full price of the game and it's refunded to you when you return it. Great for those games that don't have much replay value. In the back area is a sort of gamer lounge where people are playing N64 games and there are tables set up for cards (Magic , etc) . They have games and hardware from every generation console which is awesome. This is my go-to spot now for all things gaming. read more

This store has exceeded my expectations. They really are the best store in the nation . The staff are very helpful and easy to talk to. I had to trade my old Spyro game because my old Playstation stopped working. I also gave BOWSER'S INSIDE STORY, TANK BEAT, DUCK AMUCK, TRANSFORMERS. I got 40 credit and selected a different adorable Spyro game and Prince of Persia. Then I went back and found a jungle adventures game and paid the difference of 6.23 and then paid 50 cents for Street Fighter 2 arcade. This store is like going back to gaming heaven. I will be back in April to buy PSP and games for that. But I am so happy to have gotten Prince of Persia. read more

Easily the most impressive collection of games out of all the options in Toronto. On top of this, easily the nicest staff and most helpful customer service. However, they use both of these things as a cover up for their very high prices. Because you are guaranteed a positive experience and the convenience of having everything you could ever want in one place, they jack the prices up beyond market value. I recently purchased a copy of Mike Tyson's Punch Out for $60 because I figured I would support the guys for the great work they do. However, I now deeply regret this purchase as I have seen it go for $20 on eBay and $40 at other game stores in the city. They claim they do their best to price fairly, however this is far from the truth, and they simply don't want to admit it. I have never once found a price at A and C which is lower than their competitors. Why? They have developed a good reputation in the city. I have been a loyal customer since 2009, however I now find less incentive to support them because they keep jacking the prices up beyond belief. Mario Kart 64 - $85 Mini Coleco Arcade Machines - $90-$130 Power Glove in Box - $230 Prices like these make me physically ill, knowing I can be patient and get a much better deal elsewhere instead of giving in to the convenience factor. Bottom line; great store, not so great prices. I also have to agree with other reviewers when they say the staff open late. Absolutely unacceptable and downright rude to paying customers who travel all the way downtown only to wait for 30 minutes. Have some decency. read more

The sign of the store claims "Rare & Vintage Games", but no mention of video. Being of the Boomer category, I went in looking for a board game, to be disappointed to find few and nothing rare. I came here frantically needing to use their restroom. The cute storekeeper willingly let me use their washroom without needing to be a paying customer. But because he is cute, I decided to buy a game. I asked him if he had any Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 for Sega Genesis, because that's the only console I play with. Luckily they had both, but damn, I'm not made of money. So I only bought Mortal Kombat 2, because Kitana and Jade are in it, and I only like Mortal Kombat 1 for Sonya, but she's aight. Kitana and Jade are so bomb. They let me test out the cartridge; it's so cool that they have so many different computers and thingamabobs to get really old consoles to work. When I tested it out, the graphics were so bad. But I think that's what old video games actually looked like back then. I was taken aback. This place is the bomb for gamers. I like older systems and have an SNES. Great game selection. Prices are fair. Staff are experts, very helpful and friendly. Been a few times, always get what I'm looking for. They've got hundreds of games for each system, controllers, etc. Great atmosphere, for the true gamer.
