I enrolled my dog in their 3-week board-and-train program for $3,600. During camp, they sent…read moreoccasional photos and videos, which made me feel things were going well. But when I got her back, she was wearing a prong collar -- one of those metal collars with sharp prongs. I was told to keep it on for a week and follow their training modules exactly. We followed their instructions. A week later, I discovered puncture wounds on her neck. They were bleeding and infected, so we rushed her to the emergency vet, where she was treated for several punctures and infection. The bill came to $1,400. When I contacted Benchmark, horrified, the trainer admitted she "had forgotten to mention" that the prong collar should only be used during training sessions and removed afterward. That information would have been critical and could have prevented the injury. The follow up email with instructions also did not mention it anywhere. I still don't know if she was already hurt before she came back home, or if the tight collar caused it during that week, but either way, it was a major oversight. The collar itself was clearly too tight. If they had added just one more link, it would have fit better and may have avoided the injury altogether. Instead, my dog suffered, and the recovery set her back weeks -- undoing much of the progress she had made. Benchmark's official response was that they "take no responsibility" for anything that happens outside of camp. After that, I never heard back from them. My program was supposed to include follow-up lessons, but once I reported the injury, it seems they cut off communication. Between the $3,600 program and the $1,400 vet bill, I lost $5,000 -- and ended up with a traumatized dog who couldn't even continue her training while she healed. They claim to care about animals, but they rely on harsh tools like prong collars and e-collars, fit them improperly, and fail to provide basic instructions on safe use. Then, when their methods cause real harm, they refuse to take accountability. I waited a few weeks to see if Benchmark Dog Training would reach back out to address what happened to my dog. They never did, so I'm sharing my experience here. I cannot recommend Benchmark Dog Training. If you love your pups, look elsewhere.

Manni was able to schedule us quickly which we were thankful for, as we did not want to be making any bad habits worse due to our pet inexperience. Once Manni arrived for the initial evaluation, it was obvious that he is highly skilled and knowledgeable. Our dog was freaking out worse than me or my husband had ever seen, but Manni was completely calm and professional despite all of the barking and growling. During the evaluation, Manni gave us tons of information on why our dog does the things she does and how to begin to correct the behaviors. By the end of the evaluation, he and our dog were also close friends. A couple of days after the evaluation, Manni emailed us our full comprehensive training plan. He has also been extremely available and responsive to our texts regarding questions that have popped up here and there. Yet another thing that I highly respect is that Manni didn't immediately lay out a multi-visit costly plan, as it seems like so many places are apt to do. It is obvious that Manni truly loves dogs and wants them and there owners to succeed!

He's very spoiled and gets separation anxiety (and me too...) so I wanted the best for him. I was considering Pets Hotel until i found out that they crate their dogs most of the day and barely play outside. Ollie doesn't like crates and loves to be around humans and other dogs. So, I did my research and came across Maisy's Mutts! We did a meet and greet 3 weeks before I had to leave for the weekend and it went great. I felt SO comfortable leaving Ollie with the family and Manni kept me updated every day with pictures which definitely helped with my separation anxiety (LOL!). Ollie loves them and he had so much fun with Maisy and their other furry friend. Manni is definitely my go-to boarding place!!!

Placer SPCA - $5 ALL ADOPTIONS

Placer SPCA

ALL ADOPTIONS THIS MONTH ARE $5 PER FURRY FRIEND!!!…read more I had a little free time today, and with the Placer SPCA only five minutes from work, I couldn't resist stopping by. This is where I adopted Ozzy, so I remembered those adorable little balls of fur and that ooey-gooey feeling they give you. You know, the one where your heart melts and suddenly you want to bring everyone home? Such a wonderful feeling! Parking was tough today--almost every space was taken! A sign out front advertised a $5 adoption special this month, and once I stepped inside, I discovered some pretty wonderful news: every single kitten had been adopted! My original plan was to visit with the kittens, but I was happy to have that plan fall through for such a good reason. There were three cats available, and they were already getting attention from people who might become their forever families, so I let them enjoy their visits. Instead, I ventured over to the dog side. From tiny chiweenies to a giant mastiff mix, there were dogs of all sizes waiting for someone to take them home. Many were sweet and friendly, eager for attention and affection. Others barked and seemed nervous in their surroundings. One girl who especially tugged at my heart was Rose, a beautiful husky. She was so sweet, wanted to be loved, and made it awfully hard to walk away. Some animals have a way of making a little space for themselves in your heart within minutes. Rose certainly did. The kennels looked clean and well cared for, and staff were busy cleaning while volunteers took dogs out for walks. It was lovely to see people giving their time and care to these animals. Quite a few dogs had already been adopted, but there were still plenty waiting for their turn. If you've been thinking about welcoming a furry friend into your life, this adoption special could be a wonderful opportunity. The adoption care and support are valuable, too, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations appropriate for their age, and a coupon for a first veterinary visit. Be sure to ask the staff what your particular pet has received and what follow-up care they'll need. I came hoping for a little kitten time and left happy for the ones who had found homes--and thinking about the dogs still waiting for theirs. Adoption is such a beautiful way to give a deserving animal a home... A little paw, a hopeful heart, A chance for life to truly start. An open door, a place to stay, And someone who won't walk away. Through quiet nights and skies of blue, A faithful friend walks next to you. Give love a home, and you will see-- You gave them yours; they gave you family.
