Liquid Descent - Hank raft guide was the best

I can't say enough good things about our experience with Liquid Descent. My daughter and I signed…read moreup for the beginner rafting trip... and while she was excited... I was terrified. I was so nervous walking in, but from the moment we arrived, every single staff member made us feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. You could tell he genuinely cares about the rafting community and takes pride in his work and LOVES his Liquid Descent family! Every employee we encountered was friendly, encouraging, and helpful - from getting us fitted with helmets and life jackets to cheering us on as we headed out. As someone who started out nervous, that kind of supportive vibe made a huge difference. They encouraged me, and they helped me push past my comfort zone in the best way possible. What a GREAT memory! We will remember this day not only for the thrill of the rapids, but for the kindness and heart of the people who guided us through it! If you are considering rafting in Colorado, go with Liquid Descent. I'm so glad we did!

Atmosphere and Scenery The atmosphere at City Park is very…read moreromantic and calm. It is a nice place to walk around with family and friends. Or to just play at the park, and a lot of people go there for running, biking, or playing soccer. One of the best things about this park is that it did not smell bad. I noticed because I know some parks have a stinky smell, but this one did not. Even though we went during the summer, it wasn't super hot and there were not a bunch of bugs for that time of year. Crowd The crowd depends on when you go and if there is an event happening. It was not crowded at all on the day we went because we went during the week. However, I know during certain times of the year they have jazz in the park and it gets super packed. Most of the time, everybody pretty much minds their own business or they are friendly, but if you go for an event, you should plan ahead accordingly. Price: This location is completely free to go to since there is no park entrance fee or anything. Even the jazz in the park events are free and really neat, which makes it a great spot if you are looking for a nice place that is laid-back and free to enjoy. Parking and Transportation: There are plenty of places to park during a normal day, but when we went to jazz in the park during the summer, it did take some time to find a spot. You should make sure to show up early so that you can find parking. If you live a little bit away, you might want to take an Uber, or you can just walk or ride your bike if you live close enough. Overall Experience: My husband and I went right before sundown to do a picnic and painting date that also served as a photo shoot. We had someone set this up for us and we paid for it, so it was very convenient because we just showed up and followed their instructions. It was a great time to go because it wasn't very busy and the lighting was perfect. I think it is a good spot to have a photo shoot or a cute picnic date because it has such a romantic feel to it. We had a really fun time and I highly recommend this place.

Anyway, the grid they created was still close to perfect and it stuck. City Park came later in 1882, and it too was visionary. Huge. Green. Perfectly placed. Eventually, its lake and boathouse would endure as the foreground of many of the city's best skyline photos. Not to mention, it has a city golf course, zoo, and nature and science museum. Designed in the style of New York's Central Park, the awesomeness of its splendor endures to this day.

That said, if you are a beginning kayaker and just want to get some experience, this is a great place to go. If you are timid around water, not sure if you will like the sport, or someone who just generally likes to try new things, be outdoors, etc. - do it! We were in town from Arizona and the water was pretty choppy (dude said winds were ~10 mph... I think they were closer to 15 mph...) I am not in love with sit on top kayaks and I don't particularly love chop. Moving water? Fine. Rocking back and forth? Ehhhh. We only paddled for about 30-40 minutes because it was so windy. We paddled against the wind to get our bearings, floated/paddled to the other end with the wind, and then worked our arms off paddling back. My husband doesn't really enjoy that type of work out (ha!) so he got out and pulled his 'yak for a bit. I was more determined and paddled the whole way. It's a very chill area (or was in May) but if you wanted to bring a group of folks to paddle and sunbathe and eat some snacks on the shore (which apparently happens in the summer) you'll have a blast. We prefer barren, inclimate weather (seriously) so it was a perfect day for us.
