Her work has always been good and she's always been friendly if a bit difficult to understand (she's Korean). However, we had our first problem with her work today and because of the way she handled it we will definitely not be returning under any circumstances. I had brought her a pair of dress pants last week to be hemmed and taken in at the waist. When I tried them on she first brought them in too tight and I asked her to loosen her pins, which she did. She marked them with chalk and pinned them. However, when I tried them on after the alterations, they were way too tight. I very politely told her so. Rather than simply let them out a bit, she LOST IT. I mean I wonder if I seriously witnessed a breakdown. She became very, very upset and kept repeating that she pinned them where I told her to. She rephrased it various ways, but all she was really doing was blaming the customer. For all I know she altered them along the first line she had chalked on my pants, which I had told her was too tight. Then she kept asking me over and over "How many inches? How many inches?" Meaning how many inches did I want them let out. Her English was becoming unintelligible by this point. I told her I don't know; I don't know how many inches she took in! "Half inch, three-quarter inch, HOW MANY INCHES???" I was torn between lighting into her (I was royally pissed by now) and backing away from the crazy. I chose the latter and picked three-quarter inches. She insisted on altering them again while we waited. Mike and I said nothing. She wanted me to try them on again. I said no thank you. She said "You okay, me okay." I said nothing. I chose not to poke the crazy. I paid for the alterations and got the hell out of there. Her prices are fair and her work is good ... but god help you if you have a problem. Heed my warning!

That tailor shop is painfully overwhelmed with work. Don't expect your pants to be done on time but you can expect to be overcharged for a simple hem. Fred's tailors is located in the Sobey's across from the Halifax Shopping Centre on Mumford Rd near the NSLC entrance. The prices much more reasonable and the work is just as good. My pants were always ready to pick up when they said they would be and I never had to bring anything back because it was done improperly. That makes them #1 in my books. They will even do a hem while you wait.

The man working was very professional and I was able to try on my pants in a little changing room so he could pin the correct length. The quality of the work done was great. The only reason I'm only giving 4 stars out of 5 is that I was told my pants would be finished two days later by 11am (I said I could pick them up in two days before noon, or I could get them the following week as there was no rush). I arrived to pick them up at 11:35am while on my way to work, and I ended up having to wait 5 minutes while he finished one of my pants in front of me. It wasn't a big deal, but if I I had come at 11am when he said they would be done then I would have waited 40 minutes or I would have had to come back to get my pants on another day. I would recommend this tailor, but I would suggest giving them more time to finish your items, even if they sound confident that they will have it done in a couple of days.

I don't always agree with all of the Best Ofs in The Coast, but Daniel's Tailoring Shop is a…read morewell-deserved long-standing winner of the tailoring category. I'm actually a little bit shocked that it hadn't been reviewed yet when I dropped off a couple pairs of pants the other day! It's a small shop on the upper level of Park Lane Mall found from the main entrance by hopping on the escalators or stairs off to the right -it's in the main hallway. The head tailor here has been my go-to for alterations on any piece of clothing that I just can't have messed up. Typically, this means hemming pricy denims down to my Smurf-life height without having to worry about them coming back too long, too short, or looking like I hemmed them myself. For an extra cost ($20 rather than the normal $8 for a hem), they'll do a euro hem which makes the bottom of your jeans look professionally finished rather than just folded up and shortened. Definitely worth it if you've invested in a great pair to start with. Not only that, but the tailor actually cares about the work he's doing. He'll take your measurements as per usual, but he'll also ask about the shoes you wear, how you stand regularly, whether you like them to run long, etc. Even for a simple hemming, Daniel's makes sure that it's done to suit you specifically. On Saturdays, appointments can be made for consultations on more complicated jobs which I haven't done before, but I have witnessed the change in my friends' wardrobes after getting run through this shop. I can't wait to bring in some okay-fitting stuff and leave with perfection!

The service is always amazing, timely, prices are fair and the fit of the clothing is always what I wanted. Janice is extremely friendly and kind and over the years she has made an effort to build and grow a rapport, which I really appreciate. Janice provides quality work, very knowledgeable and able to work with you and guide you on what's best for the fit of your clothing. No anchoring done, paid a lot in cash. Hard to believe this job was done by a real tailor, I suspect they have inexperienced people in the back doing their work. Taking my coat to another tailor, will make sure this time that an actual tailor does the work and if he/she advises me of how this work was done, I will let you know. But I asked for a small slit in the left and she failed to give me that. I have a tattoo and will be wearing custom sneakers so I really wants both of those to show. She did attempt a slit but it didn't end up working. The stitching is horribly done, and there is so much bulging fabric that she didn't off that peaks out of the slip and just looks off. Then I asked her to take off more then normal from my waist since I wanted a very open back. She instead made the open back smaller and you can barley see the beautiful corset that my dress has. Overall I don't think it was worth what we paid since she didn't execute what I wanted. I still do love my dress but I'm still disappointed that I am unable to have the perfect dress. But I will say if your looking for some simple alterations she I'd recommend her. But if you want crazy big changes or add-ons done I'd look somewhere else.
