I'm actually a little bit shocked that it hadn't been reviewed yet when I dropped off a couple pairs of pants the other day! It's a small shop on the upper level of Park Lane Mall found from the main entrance by hopping on the escalators or stairs off to the right -it's in the main hallway. The head tailor here has been my go-to for alterations on any piece of clothing that I just can't have messed up. Typically, this means hemming pricy denims down to my Smurf-life height without having to worry about them coming back too long, too short, or looking like I hemmed them myself. For an extra cost ($20 rather than the normal $8 for a hem), they'll do a euro hem which makes the bottom of your jeans look professionally finished rather than just folded up and shortened. Definitely worth it if you've invested in a great pair to start with. Not only that, but the tailor actually cares about the work he's doing. He'll take your measurements as per usual, but he'll also ask about the shoes you wear, how you stand regularly, whether you like them to run long, etc. Even for a simple hemming, Daniel's makes sure that it's done to suit you specifically. On Saturdays, appointments can be made for consultations on more complicated jobs which I haven't done before, but I have witnessed the change in my friends' wardrobes after getting run through this shop. I can't wait to bring in some okay-fitting stuff and leave with perfection!

Alterego Tailoring - Thank YOU, Daniel, for making my wedding perfect! I loved how my dress fit me!

Save yourself a lot of…read moreaggravation, stress, time, and money and find another tailor other than Alter Ego Tailors (Mr. Daniel Royale). Due to tight timelines, I bought my wedding dress off the rack. It was a size 10, but I'm a size 2. The boutique gave me a 'recommended list of wedding dress specialist tailors', and I opted to make an appointment with Alter Ego Tailoring (Daniel Royale) as it was located near my office in downtown Halifax. His shop is located on the backside of the Doyle building directly across the street from the new library on Spring Garden Road. From the beginning, I did not get a good feeling about the shop/tailor. I should have listened to my gut and left with my dress after the initial consultation. Mr. Royale promised a lot but didn't deliver. In my opinion, he was unfocussed, distracted, didn't listen, and seemed to be perpetually rushed/in a hurry. I'm not sure if the issue is lack of skill, lack of attention to detail, not listening, not taking notes, or taking on too many clients, but I suspect it's a combination of all those things. In a nutshell, he basically butchered my dress. My dress required a lot of work to make it fit properly and make it the way I wanted. Mr. Royale assured me he was up to the task but fell well short of the mark. After multiple appointments and alterations, I ended up paying almost three hundred dollars for an ill-fitting, too long dress (among several other issues) that I was sadly not looking forward to wearing on my wedding day. Mr. Royale only accepts cash and gave me a generic receipt that did not bear the name of his shop; a practice that to me, seems rather sketchy. What reputable business these days doesn't accept debit/credit? Why wouldn't you want the name of your business to appear on the receipts you issue to customers? I can't help but wonder what Revenue Canada thinks of this practice. After my disastrous experience with Alter Ego Tailors (Daniel Royale), I took my dress to another tailor and spent $225 to have my gown properly altered, fitted and fixed. Lesson learned (unfortunately) the hard way.

I was able to buy a ridiculously discounted dress that didn't fit quite right, was full of hitches…read morein the lace overlay and two large tears in the skirt ... All because I knew Daniel had the talent to pull off this crazy alteration!!! Thank you :) Great work, great service!!
