My 4-year-old daughter started TK at Vibrant Minds Charter School in Anaheim about four months ago, and I can't express how grateful I am that we found this school.
They use a play-based approach for TK and Kindergarten, which has truly been a gift for my daughter. Her classroom is warm and joyful, filled with Montessori-style materials that spark curiosity, including a wooden kitchen, building blocks, art stations, and community tables where the kids learn to work together. She also gets tons of outdoor time every day, which has made a huge difference in her mood and energy.
At her previous preschool/daycare, there were days she didn't want to go because she said there was "too much learning," and she just wanted to play. I assume she meant too many worksheets. At Vibrant Minds, the learning happens through play, and the difference has been amazing. Even with all the play, she's learned so much. In just four months, she has come home counting to 10, rhyming words, and starting to read by sounding out letters.
One of the biggest changes I noticed was after school. At her old preschool/daycare, I often had to take her to the playground because she still had so much energy. Now, when I pick her up, she tells me she's already played outside a lot and just wants to go home and relax. To me, that's a sign that her needs are truly being met during the school day.
Even better, she genuinely looks forward to going to school each morning. There's no rush, no resistance, just excitement. As a parent, that feeling is everything. She loves her teacher and her classmates.
I also appreciate that Vibrant Minds is a charter school, which means it's free and publicly funded but has more flexibility in how it designs its programs. You can really feel that thoughtfulness in the way the school is run. Even something as simple as pick-up and traffic flow shows how much the staff cares. During the first week at the new location, they were out there every day adjusting the system, trying different approaches, and making changes until everything ran smoothly.
We've had such a positive experience so far, and I'm so thankful my daughter gets to start her school journey here. It really feels like a place where she's seen, supported, and able to thrive. read more
