They have a small range of pastries from Johnny Ripe these include: Massive croissants which are delicious Rustic looking apple pies Doughnuts/cronuts And maybe something else They have a breakfast menu that I haven't tried. The cafe is small with about three tables and a bench in the front window. There are seats and tables outside. I'd love to give this cafe a 5 star review because they seem to be on the right track and their coffee is really good. I'm sticking to 4 star as they served me a ham and cheese croissant when I asked for a toasted croissant with jam, they apologized and served me a cold croissant, then apologized again and heated it up but it was still cold on the inside - delicious but cold. For a new cafe they are doing most things well, stocking good quality pastries and serving great coffee.

You'll see a sandwich board showing you where to turn it but be quick or you'll miss it. It's next to a childcare centre and parking can be an issue. My girlfriends and I meet up here as it's near the school where our children attend. If you've looked at my list you'll notice I rate a place on their coffee first, food second. This place does a nice cup of Joe :-) My poison is a strong, skinny latte and they do it nicely. The way to tell a good strong latte is the colour. If it's too white or milky, I'll send it back! The meals here are nice too. Mind you, I can only comment on breakfast. I've had the french toast with crispy bacon, eggs and bacon and my new favourite is the bagels and cream cheese! I've had a hard time finding a good bagel in Australia...but these are nice. I have it toasted and served with crispy bacon to go along with the cream cheese. YUMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! This is on the way to DFO and as I have not really found a good coffee stop in DFO, this place is where I get my caffeine fix if I'm in the neighbourhood. And the staff is really friendly.

Merchant and Maker looks deceptively humble from the street nestled in a small shopping strip. It's actually a spacious cafe with ample inside and outside seating. And, it's located directly across from the breach. It's nicely fitted out in a contemporary way with brightness coming from the predominant white decor. There was lovely music on today. Someone has a really good playlist. Overall there's a lovely atmosphere at this cafe and it's a very nice place to sit a spell. I received a lovely greeting on arrival. Good menu here, but things are a little expensive, $2-3 above city prices in some cases. $6 to add extras to my brekkie eggs seemed a bit OTT to me. I had a gorgeous long black with cold milk on the side and it was very nicely presented on a board. Very very good coffee. Best coffee in the immediate area on the peninsula. I chose poached eggs on sourdough with beans and bacon. The toasted sourdough was too dry, the eggs not quite runny enough to offset the dryness. Another earlier reviewer had mentioned the dryness of the bread and they were right. The bread needs to softened in another way as parts of it were tough to eat. The dish was unseasoned too. I had to ask for salt and pepper which wasn't available on any table. Absolutely beautiful bacon, and superbly cooked. Best bacon I've tasted for a while, with gorgeous crisp edges. It was the best part of the dish. The beans were over sweetened. Like seriously too too sweet. It was a shame as they otherwise had good flavour. It was also a tiny serve for $6. So, overall the meal was not quite there for me. Service was lovely throughout. It has the makings but overall this cafe can do better.

On a sunny day, it's nice to sit outside but this isn't the prettiest of lanes. Truly Scrumptious is more of a local spot to meet rather than a hip and trendy venue to enjoy a Saturday brunch. It's typically semi-full of regulars and locals, often attracting a more senior crowd. However it's nice for a change to go somewhere calm and pleasant where there's no lines. Truly Scrumptious is also a nice spot for small groups. The prices are excellent and quite good value. My brunch recommendation is the breakky roll. It's delicious, especially that tomato relish they use, and it's also super cheap ($9.50). Coffee is Grinders and there's usually daily muffins and other baked goods. I have to admit I loved the corner shop with the cute little outdoor seating although I didn't appreciate how small the place is. If you have a pram, you'd definitely have to sit outside and on a cold day, that's definitely not a bonus. The coffee was okay, not the best by far that I've had. I did end up going back and having an iced coffee and that was perfect. It probably was the ice cream in it that made it even better though. If it had been an iced coffee without ice cream I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much. I had a chicken schnitzel sandwich which was exceptionally good on a delicious bread roll. The mayo that was on the sandwich was absolutely to die for! The staff don't seem overly friendly though which is definitely a hinderance on a coffee shop. I prefer to walk in and get warmly greeted and I didn't feel that from this shop.
