I had my phone screen replaced at this location less than three weeks ago, and the screen has already completely failed. I did not drop the phone, expose it to moisture, or misuse it in any way. I simply took it out of my pocket and the display was suddenly unusable--green and black discoloration with severe lines across the screen. For context, the phone was in a protective case and had a screen protector installed at the time. Despite these protections and normal, careful use, the replacement screen still catastrophically failed. A screen replacement should last significantly longer than a few weeks. This kind of failure strongly suggests low-quality parts and/or poor workmanship. I now have a non-functional device after paying for a repair that was supposed to fix the problem, not create a new one. The inconvenience, cost, and time wasted dealing with this issue are unacceptable. I would strongly caution others against using this business if they expect a reliable, durable repair or any reasonable standard of quality control. read more

Every time I go to VGH it is a nightmare. The dishonesty and disorganization and lack of communication makes this an honestly horrible place to shop. It also does not help that they are unabashedly sexist. This trip was particularly special. I brought in a Gameboy Advanced SP, a Nintendo 2Ds and a gameboy game. I asked them to give me an estimate/quote before doing ANY work. My brother was with me and can validate all of this. I was assured I would be called before any work was done. I asked them to give me a quote on replacing the 2Ds' bottom screen and the sleep button because the slider isn't working and there are two deep gauges on the lower screen. Neither of these things were done. They cleaned the screen and cleaned the gameboy and then called me to inform me that they worked and that was going to be $25.00. When I got to the store and explained my frustration that I was not called, the associate Trevor tried to tell me that anywhere you go, car dealerships, housing repair, all of them will charge you to give you a quote because they had to "do work" to get an estimate. This is absolutely not true as I have worked with many other businesses who give quotes without charge. In the end they ended up not charging me because they "didn't want to argue." Which fine whatever. But it is absurd that there is a charge for using an air can and alcohol wipe when I could have done that on my own, then not even addressing the issues I requested. This is especially frustrating because no one else in the are does these repairs so I'm going to have to likely go to Spokane to get these repairs done. I have never had a good experience at this store. Buyer beware, especially if your female or female presenting. read more

I took a MacBook that is still under Apple care + to VGH. It had a space bar that was being sticky. They "fixed" it once just by running a little tool under the spacebar and unsticking it. However the next day the problem resumed. I took it back to VGH as soon as I could, but since I live in Lewiston and the store is in Moscow, I couldn't bring it in right away (about two weeks after the first fix, about three weeks since the problem started). When I told them my issue, they told me it would be 299$ to fix, even with AppleCare plus. They concluded something was "spilled" onto the MacBook from one tiny droplet that was on the spacebar, and because it has "liquid damage", the deductible goes from 0$ to 299$. I knew for a fact I never "spilled" anything on the MacBook, as well as the fact that I clean the keyboard frequently. Whatever that speck was, I guarantee happened after the spacebar started sticking. After trying to explain to the employee that I KNOW that speck occurred after the problem started happening, and add in the fact that when I took it to them originally they never said there was any liquid damage (indicating the speck happened after the first visit), they kept telling me if they have to work on the MacBook it will be 299$ to fix. On top of it all, the speck they observed (most likely from a sneeze if I'm being honest) was located directly in the middle of the spacebar. It wasn't even on a side of the spacebar where it could have seeped into the crack. It was literally all contained on the spacebar itself. I asked who is the person who concludes that it was liquid damage vs. incidental damage, they told me they are the ones who get to make that call. Well, there was no way I was going to leave my MacBook with them if they already were concluding liquid damage without even doing a bit of work, AND them not seeing any liquid damage the first time, AND the speck being in a spot where it physically wasn't even in the crack of the spacebar. I sent my Macbook into Applecare via mail. Not only did applecare get my laptop fixed and sent back to me before VGH would have (VGH said it would take them about 4 days before they could check it out, a day or two for parts to arrive, then a day or two to complete the repair, at which point I would have to drive to Moscow to pickup my MacBook)... The professionals at Apple concluded NO liquid damage. Wow, shocker. Don't take your products here. Mail them into Apple. Had I listened to the VGH "pro".. I would have spend 300 dollars on a "liquid damaged" macbook. It really is a shame too. This was my first interaction with VGH and instead of creating a lifelong customer, I'll never take any of my products there. If I could give 0 stars, I would. If you want to get ripped off and lied to, VGH is your place. If good customer service and trustworthy staff is something you value, look elsewhere. read more

My computer needed a battery replacement on an Apple program and I took it in. I'm an older woman and was exhausted. These guys mentioned twice needing to do something with my screen and I didn't pay attention, because they were an "Authorized Mac Repair" place and I trusted them. Sadly. When I picked my computer back up, I didn't realize for a while -- again busy -- that they'd taken my nice retina display out and put in an old scratched up one. By the time I figured it out, it was too late to do anything. My retina display has NOTHING to do with a battery replacement. Then, my hard drive went out and they kept saying "water damage." It's NEVER had any water damage. They wanted $1000 for a new hard drive. My friend, who has worked on Macs for years in the school system, put in a new, slightly smaller one for me for $200. These people are rip offs and probably cheating a lot of students at the University. They ought not be an "Authorized Apple" anything. I would never step foot in their doors again. I hope you don't either. They ought to be reported to the BBB or something. I don't have time. read more

VGH is listed as an authorized AppleCare repair location, but despite arranging a repair appointment through Apple and receiving a confirmation email, the associate we spoke to when we got to the store refused to service my boyfriend's iphone because they "couldn't fix it under AppleCare." My primary work laptop (a MacBook Pro that aged out of Apple's repair coverage) failed suddenly and I was going to lose two weeks of work since my last major backup, not to mention productivity loss working from a backup laptop. I arranged to have my assistant take it to them, and they were fast and efficient in getting the repair turned around. Turns out the issue was my hard drive failing. They recovered my data, installed the new drive and latest Mac OS, and then I was SHOCKED when I saw the bill. It was less than half of what I was anticipating this would have cost. I cannot say enough good things about Tom (the Mac tech who handled my repair) and their overall service and performance. read more

They are always respectful and friendly, supporting COVID safety, and care more about your needs than making a sale-- if a product would meet my needs, they have told me point blank even if it cost them a good sale. I was told due to the age and the condition (yes, it is dirty), the sales person I spoke to said he wouldn't send it back to the technicians in its condition. My boyfriend and I decided to shop locally here at VGH instead of buying what we wanted online. That was a mistake! We bought 2 pairs of very expensive headsets and took them home, excited to use them. To our disappointment, they didn't work correctly. My boyfriend's mic cut in and out while he was talking and my headset had extremely crappy sound quality while I was playing my game. Bummed that our new headsets didn't work, we decided to take them back. Before we got there we looked at the receipt. It said "No returns on opened electronics." That caused us a lot of stress because we didn't want to lose $160 on headsets that didn't work. When we got there, we told the person helping us that our headsets were defective and wanted to return them. He said he needed to run tests on them to make sure they were defective. He ran the tests and decided there was nothing wrong with them, despite us describing in detail what was going wrong. That means, he said, he has to take a 20% "restocking" fee on the items that we purchased, even though the items had been opened and tried 1 time and every single tiny piece of packaging was accounted for (even the little rubber bands that tie the cords together). Long story short, we took the headsets back but lost $32 in that interaction. Don't buy here. The products online are cheaper (for the same items) and manufacturers (or amazon) have better return policies. After this, we bought some different headsets for half the price online that work perfectly. Whatever "tests" he ran on those headsets seemed pretty self-serving to me. Buy somewhere else or you're going to lose your money. read more

Took my mac in for water damage and after a $60 analysis fee and a few days they determined that the motherboard among other things was fried and that it was not salvageable. I took my computer to my friend who determined that the motherboard was fine and the only things that needed replacing was the battery and the keyboard. After $170 for a new battery and keyboard the computer works fine now. Apparently an expensive faux analysis fee was all they could bother. They didn't take any time to make an actual analysis and instead settled for the quick $60 "analysis" fee and another expensive fee to draw data from the hard drive to an external hard drive. Would not recommend and will not be returning. read more

This store is a dishonest, deceitful, and frankly close to being a "bunch of crooks". My daughter received a brand new MacBook Air in late July for her graduate school work in the area. Unfortunately, she spilled some water on it to the point of it being non-functional. Sine VGH Computers is listed as an authorized Apple Repair outlet, she took the laptop to them for an estimate. Initially she was told that the cost was going to be approximately $900 to fix it. I authorized her to take the MacBook Air to them for the repairs at the $900 quoted rate. Upon her taking it to them, they (for whatever fraudulent reasons...), changed their story, and told her it would now be about $1500 to repair the computer, and she'd be better off to buy a new Apple MacBook Air (@ $1300+...) rather than have it repaired. Since she was starting out in grad school and needed immediate laptop IT services, she reluctantly agreed. As her father, I asked her to bring down the damaged laptop to me in CA for me to check it out. I took it to a local Apple Store to get a concurrent quote for the repairs. I was quoted by the Apple Store locally that the standard repairs charged by Apple for(all) water-damaged laptops was a flat $755, which is far less than what VGH Computers, an Authorized Apple Repair vendor, was quoting to my daughter. This is out and out fraud. I have requested my daughter to spread the word among her MacBook user colleagues of which she has many, to NEVER/EVER go back to VGH Computers for any Apple computer related service. They are the WORST, and they are patently fraudulent in their customer service to the U of I and WSU student/faculty community(!) I will also be in contact with Apple Corporation to lodge a formal complaint with them in the regard to their authorization to be an Apple computer repair outlet. read more

When looking for accessories for desktop PCs, there isn't much in the way of speciality stores in the Pullman-Moscow area. Besides finding plenty of "repair" stores with Photoshopped before and after pictures, or department stores like Walmart and Staples, the only other store around is VGH in the Moscow mall. Their website made note of selling many different PC parts, such as hard drives, networking accessories, and computer fans. Alright! Going in, the store seemed well-stocked for a locally owned PC store. There were plenty of aisles full of all sorts of different products, from video games, to cables, to hard drives. Immediately, I was shocked at the hard drives on display. A standard Western Digital drive with 1TB of space was 85 dollars! These never go above 60 online. Okay, sure, most college students aren't buying internal hard drives. They might just be priced to match demand. Next, I looked for a Wi-Fi card for my new PC. I found the TP-Link N900, a trusted name among the swathes of white-box, "blank-"tech products. 50 dollars. Seemed a bit more than I expected, but I hadn't researched this specific card. A cursory Google search showed that this product was sold for less than 40 dollars on every single website. I heard this store price matched, so I asked the manager when I went to possibly pay. He told me he couldn't price match with that because it was "less than he paid for it" and he "needed to make a profit to keep the doors open." Now, I'm no business expert, but I'm next to positive stores buy wholesale parts at a discounted price to sell for a large profit. That's kind of how you make money. I told him I'd look elsewhere and went on my way. I'm curious which companies they DO price match with, considering almost all of their products are more expensive than from Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, or even the manufacturers' websites. While they might make a buck or two off of an uninvestigative college kid, you'd be better off taking two seconds to find your PC products cheaper somewhere else. read more

I would do a 0 if I could took my Apple 6 plus in. Their tech confidently told me they could fix my internal speaker and mic. So I decided to let them do it. Now my phone is completely ruined and the face doesn't work. I have been out of a phone all weekend. I have to take it back and I live like an hour away. To see if they fix the problem they created. This place is a joke. I will try to work with them so that I don't have to pay a full $200 for an insurance claim. Great retro gaming store but unfortunately there pc gaming stuff was overpriced compared to Wal-Mart who was $5-10 cheaper on their mouse & gaming mats same models mind you. They said they price match but when they saw their competitors pricing they would not budget at all nor give a slightly lower discount. If you want overpriced gaming equipment come here otherwise save your money and purchase elsewhere. Wow, I really wish I would have checked the reviews before coming here. My space bar on my 2017 MacBook Pro got jammed, and I removed it following instructions on how to do so. When it still DIDNT work after replacing it, I called Apple who advised me this model has a recall on the space bar butterfly key and to take it to any authorized technician to get a free replacement. This was the closest place, so I dropped it off for replacement and was advised they would get it back to me within a day or two. That evening, I got a call that it would be SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS to be replaced, which includes EIGHTY DOLLAR AN HOUR technician fee. I'm sorry, but I'm a nurse practitioner who can save a life and I don't even make that much. I advised them I'd be taking it to Apple who will replace it for FREE. Upon picking up the laptop, I was charged over thirty dollars for a freaking DIAGNOSTIC FEE!!! What company doesn't give free quotes?!?! Apparently this joke of an establishment. Over thirty dollars to plug my computer in and diagnose a problem that I could have told you already existed?!? Are you kidding me? I clarified this price and that Apple does not even charge this (who has much more experienced technicians) and he replied with "well we aren't Apple..." save your money. I'm beyond livid I wasted a two hour drive each way from my home to get here. Any decent establishment would at least warn you up front of charges and not price gouge and hide fees from customers. I wrote a review of VGH already but it has mysteriously dissipated. I will keep posting this review as long as they continue to lie cheat and steal and as long as i live. This company is beyond fucked up. An elderly friend of mine was swindled out of an expensive repair that did little to fix the problem and only made things worse. We got the computer home to find that there had been an incredibly old version of windows installed and none of the drivers were installed with it. The internet connection was not working properly, the sound card and video card would not function properly. OH and they left the illegal cracked "altered windows 7 x 64 bit" dvd in the disc drive. They wiped the virus off the computer, which is what was initially tasked of them, but failed to properly install a simple operating system. Computer was as bad if not worse than when it went in. read more

Just had an outstanding experience here. Long story short, it took one of the VGH techs to personally coordinate with Apple to make sure a laptop repair went through successfully. Not only was that tech key in making it happen, he was able to perform that significant repair in only a few hours, allowing me to get back to work on my primary machine without too much downtime. Am incredibly grateful that they went out of their way to help at a time when everything seemed pretty bleak for me tech-wise. read more

Tom V was sympathetic to my problem, immediately began running diagnostics, figured out the issue and worked hard to make sure I was satisfied with the resolution. I would never recommend this store to anyone! My husband brought my HP laptop there because one of the hinges was broken and it was not closing properly. After 4 days they called us and said the only problem was the cover case. They estimated the cost to be $285 and it was surprisingly expensive. However, we decided to have it fixed. When I picked it up more than a week later, I found out the little piece connecting the hinge and the case was still broken. There was a scratch on the screen that I'd never seen before and the plastic frame covering the screen was very loose. I brought my laptop back to the store and they refused to fix the problems. One of the guys just admitted that whoever put the new cover case on my laptop did not connect the parts properly, and he used his hands to push it in but it popped out again. He just ignored it and acted like neither him nor anyone in the store was responsible for it. I was upset for the entire day. After paying too much and hoping to get it fixed, I got my laptop back with a big scratch and more problems. I should have never brought it to this place. If you are looking for a place to fix yours, find somewhere else! read more

The computer repair service at VGH is absolutely awful. In my particular experience I dealt with an incredibly rude, arrogant, and downright unfriendly little man named Tom. He did not respond to my "Hi, how are you" greeting either time I went in, he just stared at me. Very awkward. No please, no thank you, no smiling - in short, zero customer service skills. He had no idea how to fix my computer and was about replace the majority of the internals because he simply had no clue what he was doing. I had to take it back and ship it to Apple to get it fixed instead. Luckily Apple did a great job and fixed it in just one day since it just ended up being a very minor issue. There was no need to replace most of the computer like Tom was about to do. I strongly recommend staying far away from this place and just going to the Apple Store in Spokane, or shipping your Mac to Apple. read more

I came in on Wed 8/08 with my MacAir with what I thought might be a poor battery after 6 1/2 years of use. They diagnosed it straight away at the 47% level. in a nutshell: They broke my wifi card on my laptop and lied to my face about what they did and lied to me about talking with apple. I brought my macbook air here because apple care told me that they would be able to do a repair for me. My USB port was broken and needed a brand new logic board for it to be fixed so i brought it to Tom at VGH on a friday and got a call back on saturday that itll be covered and done on tuesday. came back tuesday to find that they didnt have it finished because "the cable connecting the airport card to the board was pinched and they wanted to confirm with apple that it was fine. so two days later i got my laptop back with them telling me that it was right as rain. came home and the wifi didnt connect at all. i called apple and explained the situation and the only explanation is that the people at VGH broke my airport card, considering it was working perfectly before i brought it to them. on top of that apple told me that they didnt call and confirm anything with them so they broke my laptop and lied to me about it on top of taking longer that needed to fix a problem. This is a great place to get games at prices below gamestop's. They do computer repairs for less than other places charge. I tend to buy my games there as it keeps the money in town. Their PC repair is top of the line They've always been nice about explaining what they're doing. Best of all they make older people in the community feel comfortable when they have computer problems. This means I can send my parents there when they have a problem or when they wanted to set up a wifi network in their home instead of me having to come over and spend nine hours trying to figure what they mean by "the google is broke" all around a great store. Not sure about their apple side. I know too much about computers to be suckered into buying an apple. read more

The two folks at the counter were straightforward with me about the conditions of the repair and even other options in the area. My new 6s plus screen has been working perfectly. I was a returning customer to this business. Bought an Apple computer here a few days ago. Did not work when I got it home. Brought the computer in, and talked with manager 24 hours later. They would not return for full refund nor exchange. They would not let me use their phone to call AppleCare because my iphone did not work in the store. Finally AppleCare called me after my online request, and the tech saw what was on the screen of my computer--and said that it was a hardware problem. I told AC that this store refused to exchange it. I continued to ask questions and was hung up on. VGH Manager suggested that I go to the Apple Store in Spokane (approx 70 miles away) and MAYBE they would exchange it. I asked for the manager's last name and was refused that (Moscow is not that big, I grew up here as part of a fourth generation family and the manager's last name is on their website). read more

They claim to be an APPLE repair center. Very poor service had my laptop for over a month and then tell me they cant fix it. Not impressed with VGH service they are high priced on repairs and their return policy plain sucks. Its hard to get any help from the staff. It seems like they are trying to be a high end store but they have no clue. A lot of local places will be cheaper and faster on repairs and will do a better job. I understand they are going to open another store that sells Apple products. But beware they are not a true apple store you will be buying from VGH.
