I will give the Dr five stars. She's caring and her bed side manner is excellent. The office staff is atrocious. Flat and rude. They decide when they want to give you an appointment. As if ppl don't work and ask for an appointment in advance but they can't offer it? Like it's too much work to look it up? I have been told the one who is miserable it appears is the office manager. I called and she answered, no appt. Trying to give me an expensive emergency appt. Two min later... oh they have a 930 am appt. Weird huh? The office manager is rude and her words with patients is wildly unprofessional and disrespectful. I can't say anything but positive things about Dr. Jinks and the care she's provided to my dog, Kai. When I first brought him in as a puppy around a year ago, he was nearly blind, and I was heartbroken. Dr. Jinks even seemed pretty shocked his eyesight was so bad at such a young age and explained the many different reasons this could have occurred and what our options were. Over the course of a year, with the right tests, eyedrops and medications, my dog has made a great recovery and regained the majority of his eyesight. I'm so grateful for her dedication and the progress he's made under her care. Now, she's even looking into getting him off the medication, which speaks to her thoroughness and genuine concern for his long-term well-being. First impressions were a Clean office and friendly, very knowledgeable and caring staff. We took our 20 year old Bengal for an eye exam on the recommendation of our vet. He list his eyesight in the last week and has been walking into walls. Doesn't seem to be in pain but we wanted to see if anything can be done easily to possibly regain sight or not cause any more damage. Sure enough, Dr Buss examined Pluto and did a blood pressure test. His pressure was 230 - very high and the reason for his issues. Dr Buss reviewed his findings and gave us a blood pressure pill which may or may not have to be adjusted to help. We were very impressed with this practice and recommend to anyone needing a dog/cat eye doctor. Our goal is to give our beautiful cat the best quality of life possible. read more

took my new Himalayan kitten I adopted 3 weeks prior for $2500 to this doctor because she had an eye infection. The doctor told me she needed surgery for $3300 to fix a eye ulcer & infection OR I could pay $580 for meds to see if it heals on it own. No way could I afford the operation so I bought the 7 medicationS. Doc had me come back 3 days later to check the eyes, there was very little progress. I was told I could keep treating round the clock ever 4 hours 7 medications for another week. Each time I was to go back it would be minimum $180+. I saw this was going to be too expensive for me so the doctor said there are people that will give her the operation if I leave the kitten with him, so I did because I wanted the best for my kitten so she would be out of pain. A few days later, I called to get the culture tests results that I payed for on the 1st appointment so I could let the breeder of the kitten know if she should check her other kittens....the doctor said I could NOT have the results because I gave them the kitten! We went there to fix my most precious Meeka's cataracts. The consultation went ok. We shelled out $750 for tests. Then we were given some eye drops. We received the drops and I looked on the label and it had a different dog's name on it with wrong instructions! It was so confusing! I called back wanting to talk to a supervisor or the doctor and spoke with office personnel who had no business being in this field: she couldn't care less and was not supportive or helpful to resolve the issue... Still waiting for a call back... ... After the call back: the call back only happened because my husband is very assertive... They offered credit for $60... Which means the price for the eye drops is inflated... $18 on chewy... There was no follow up from the doctor as promised and there were no apologies... read more

AMAZING. We love the staff and docs! Especially Dr. Buss who did surgery on our Pete so he could see! Pete was a foster at the time, whom we have now adopted him and his sister, Kimmie. Anyway, Pete was born with congenital cataracts and deaf. Dr. Buss fixed our boy. The staff is compassionate, kind, warm, accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and just the best. No complaints! We were recommended to Dr. Carastro by Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Carastro is an Ophthalmologist and she is amazing! She was very gentle and caring with my scared pup, She found some minor stuff in my dog's eyes, he is getting treatment for the pressure in his eyes but I am very pleased that she didn't push on any unnecessary procedures, instead she said we should just monitor a small speck she found on his right eye. I now understand why she was so highly recommended, she is an amazing eye dr. If you have an aging pet you should definitely get their eyes checked out by a specialist before they get too old, Dr. Carastro told me that unfortunately many of her senior patients she sees get to her by the time its too late to save their eyesight, I didn't know this! I am so happy Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists referred me to her and we can treat my dog's eye issues before they deteriorate any worse. read more

We were told to return in a week, and he should be better. Unfortunately his condition worsen, and he now had ulcers in both eyes. My wife and I were very worried. It was a Friday evening and I was searching for an opthalmologost in Miami Dade, Broward or Palm Beach county. The only location open on Saturday was Animal Specialty of West Palm Beach. Dr Holtsinger look at the x-ray and said "I can fix this". AND SHE DID!!! She truly puts your fur baby's health first, NOT her pocketbook. My dog got a very rare eye disease called EOM and I moved here from Orlando and was recommended by my dogs ophthalmologist to his friend Dr.Buss and he is very knowledgeable and doesn't like that dogs are on medication. Strange place. I had my cat's right eye removed due to a melanoma on a Friday and he sneezed blood and appeared lethargic possibly having trouble breathing and stopped eating Sunday. So maybe this is normal I don't know? So I called the Doctors office 8am Monday and was told they don't come in until sometime in the afternoon on Mondays? So explained my situation and at noon, no callback so I call again and "the girl" says " it didn't sound like an emergency to me" So was that a medical opinion? I really felt that since I'd paid they no longer cared about my cat. My general opinion of all vets is that their profession is based on profit and using the emotions of the pet owners to pay exorbitant bills I had hoped for better treatment for me and my cat. I can only hope the girl who answers the phone's "medical opinion" is correct and his symptoms are normal? read more

I took my boxer there today to remove a corneal ulcer from her left eye. I had been dealing with it for about 5 weeks and it wasn't getting better. I made an appt and they took us on time. The staff is kind and professional. dr carastro is more than kind and she went over the process with me and instead of making me come back for another appt., we removed it right there. I left with instructions and meds to take care of my girl. We go back in 10 days to see if her eye has healed. Granted she is wearing a cone and my heart hurts but I know I made the right choice because I didn't want her to lose her eye. Looking back Dr Carastro evaded details when I asked about her track record with retinal re-attachments and now I know why. Sometimes I blame myself for what happened because I took my dog to her and should have seen the signs... I will spare the gruesome details, but my poor boy went blind and in trying to help him through that trauma, he ended up in a life threatening situation at he hospital for a week, and months of steroids and a disfigured eyeball to this day. He was better off alone and I, without the 5K surgery bill. Her bedside manner was the most disturbing factor. At least my dog is still alive. I am thankful he did not die because of her. read more
