Losen Slote Creek Park is a small nature park located in Little Ferry. The following was copied…read morefrom njwildlifetrails.org: SITE DESCRIPTION: Located in Little Ferry, this 28-acre lowland forest and meadow habitat was protected in 1990 by an agreement between the Borough of Little Ferry and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Losen Slote Creek Park is adjacent to Mehrhof Pond and centers on the impounded Losen Slote Creek, a former tidal tributary of the Hackensack River. It offers a nature trail and seating areas. Mehrhof Pond is fenced in for safety reasons by the Bergen County Utilities Authority, but you can walk along the road and peer though the fence to scan the pond for waterfowl. The Pond was named after the Mehrhof family, who owned a brick-making operation in the late 19th century. Huge clay deposits were found throughout the Meadowlands, so brick-making was an attractive business. A large clay deposit on the eastern side of the site was mined and the remaining pit is now a viable freshwater pond. The area is a botanical treasure trove, including damp and wet woodlands, thickets, ephemeral streams and several distinct meadow types. The park has a few flat, dirt trails that snake through forest and meadows. The trails I ran on were about 1 mile. I am not into birding, but the area is popular for bird lovers. Unfortunately the pond area is fenced off. To get here take Mehrhof road to the gravel lot at the end of Crescent street. The entrance is near the street hockey rink. The park is a nice little oasis tucked away in the meadowlands.

Basically... visiting this spot for the first time in August probably wasn't ideal. Complaining aside - as mentioned in other reviews... the address is correct. You can't see it or believe it but push past the town's recycling center and the recreation park's parking lot and head into the dense forest and you'll finally see the "LOSEN SLOTE" sign. The entire tract of land is surprisingly large. Very little of it is 'paved' (minus maybe two sections of 'duckboard') - although you'll see plenty of yellow and blue markers, I guess to help guide you as to where to walk and explore. (Which might come in handy since some of the 'park' seems to bleed into the backyards of some of the homes in the area.) I went around dusk, the entire scene felt like the beginning of a horror movie... eerily silence except once in a blue a random 'thing' seemed to fall from a tree, a handful of deer showing off how nimble they were by jumping over felled trees and streams (all the while eyeing me suspiciously) and of course... I was slowly being devoured by all of God's hungry arthropods. One and done, but happy to have explored a part of Jersey I'd never been to.

James J. Braddock North Hudson County Park 9003 Bergenline…read moreAve. North Bergen, NJ 07047 This 167-acre honors James J. Braddock, a heavyweight boxing champion of the world who was raised in North Bergen. The trail surrounding Woodcliff Lake may not be the largest, but it is thriving with life. Several turtles and freshwater fish swim there. Feel free to walk, jog, or bring your domestic pet on the pathway. Bicycles, roller skating, and e-bikes are not allowed on the paths. If you prefer an alternative route, there is a nature trail that parallels with the lake. It will definitely give you the feel of being in a wilderness. Fishing is permitted in the lake, but a valid NJ freshwater fishing license is required. Visitors may rent a paddle boat or kayak if they wish to sail the lake. Multiple benches are stationed throughout the park. Feel free to grab any available seat. Everyone is also welcome to bring their own lounge chair or blanket if they prefer to have a seat on the grass. If you get hungry, Playa Bowls and Rumba's Cafe are conveniently located near the lake. They are open all year round and have both indoor and outdoor seating. A fairly large playground is on site for younger children. They may play on the jungle gym, swing set, or dual zip line. There is also a water park next to the playground. It is not an actual pool, but a highly advanced splash pad with water arches and animated sprayers. This will come in handy during the warmer seasons. There are a couple parking lots in the park, but a majority of the visitors park on the street. As parking space seems limited, I would highly recommend using public transportation to commute to the park. Overall, this park is pretty decent and it's great to spend a couple of hours on a spring or summer afternoon. #jamesjbraddockpark #northbergennj #hudsoncountypark #jamesjbraddocknorthhudsoncountypark

Probably one of the biggest local, neighborhood county parks in NJ. + Multiple sections to the park include large kids' playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, handball courts, baseball fields, a soccer field, track and field athletic field, dog park and a BIGGGG lake in the middle. + The kids' playground is one of the biggest I've seen in Northern N.J. rivaling that of Van Saun's playground in Paramus. There are lots of activities for kids in there. + There's a road that goes through the heart of the park, so, YES you can drive through the park. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Parking inside of the park can be a challenge on really nice days, but there are also spaces outside of the park by the surrounding houses too.

It's a popular spot for both locals and visitors who want to enjoy a day outdoors with a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline. On nice weekends during the warm weather months, it is by far the busiest area in the park. This pristine, sprawling 1000s of acres has boat launching spots with well-maintained restrooms. River breezes are spiced by dozens of barbecues and the happy uproar of families at play; it often fills to capacity by noon. A paved path along the river makes it easy to wander, jog, or push a stroller. More ambitious visitors can link up with longer trails toward the Palisades or up toward the bridge itself. It feels like one's far away from everything even though the city is right there where my partner, his family, and I stopped by, hoping to see the GWB fully lit, two towers with 600-watt LED bulbs, on the eve of America's 250th birthday. We were anticipating to stay a bit longer, but an impending thunderstorm was approaching.

I've lived in this area all of my life and I never get tired of it. Plenty of photo opportunities here. There's grassy areas to host picnics in or play sports. If you want to walk, there's a walkway right along the Hudson River and there's a hiking trail adjacent to it. The trails are all connected to the Palisades Interstate Park. Parking isn't difficult to find here, but it is metered ($1.50 per hour). They also have public restrooms and a seasonal concession stand. There are a lot of geese though so.... watch where you're walking because their droppings are everywhere. Whether you want to hike, relax, take photos, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery, you can't go wrong with coming here. ... and yes, it's doggo friendly! :)

Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. Visiting this place was a long time coming and we eventually got here. They have both a surface parking on the streets and a spacious underground parking. The shops vary from restaurants to dress shops of different varieties. I am both amazed and soothed by the faint sounds of the water splashing and minimal chatters as people are walking by or staring at the views themselves. Any time of day is great, but especially at night. And yes, it's well-lit. There are also options to dine at a restaurant or grab a quick treat like ice cream. I prefer to go whenever it is warm outside - so spring or summer is perfect. The only drawback is the inconvenience of parking spaces! Tough to find, all of the time. Keep that in mind. That's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.

People might get confused by the two names--Palisades Interstate Park and Fort Lee Historic Park--but it's the same location. Parking is metered, and the rates vary by day. There are several viewpoints where you can enjoy beautiful views of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. There are also a few historical displays that tell the story of the area, which makes the visit even more interesting. There are plenty of benches to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. It was peaceful and not too crowded when we visited. On the other side of the park, you'll find old cannons, restored military buildings, and other historic structures from the Revolutionary War period. The views from that side are just as amazing. Overall, it's a great place to spend a couple of hours if you're visiting the Palisades.
