Let's start with cleanliness. The dog run has a mixed dirt/gravel surface that is ripe with soaked in urine, feces and fleas -- not exactly what I want plastered all over my groomed white bichon or poodle. Equally unpleasant are the many aggressive small dogs I've encountered whose owners are either oblivious to dog etiquette, or busy bodies who give unsolicited advice about how to raise and handle your animal. It seems to me that fervid dog owners -- as a group -- have the need to share their strong opinions about dogs whether you want to hear them, or not. OK -- so I've become a dog snob. I admit it. I love my animals and take very good care of them. I suppose that if I still had my Aussies -- who loved to horse play with others in the mud and such -- I might think differently about this place. But I spend way too much time and money grooming my foo foo dogs to waste the effort here. That said, the rest of the park is a fine place to walk, bike or run (with or without dogs). The 6+ miles of paved paths that stretch from Ridgewood to Saddle Brook give you plenty of room to recreate -- although it can get congested with bikers and runners on weekends.

This run has the potential to be one of the best dog run in Bergen County…read more Things it has going for it: - Great fencing - Great entry areas - Separate large and small dog runs - Plenty of shade - Poop bags provided - Good size dog runs - Plenty of parking a short walk away (in park) Things is had going against it: - No water - No seating - Decomposed/crushed granite ground cover (not great with a wet long haired dog) This dog run has the making of a great dog run, but it fells like it is unfinished. The county did a great job with the fencing, dog gate entry areas and are just outside the run......but the inside of the dog runs need some additions. First, there is no seating at all in these runs, which really makes no sense since they made some great concrete benches for people to view the dogs inside the run.... bring the same seating inside the runs. Second they added a nice drinking fountain just outside the run..... the drinking fountain they installed is for humans only, what would it have cost to buy one of those drinking fountains that have the dog drinking area at the bottom of it? That type of drinking fountain would have sort of made up for not having any water source in the runs. It really makes no sense why the county didn't add at least seating and water since they took the time to add them just outside the dog runs....did they run out of money? Come on Bergen County! You have a potential gem here.....give what the residents of this area deserve, and finish what you started. Add water and seating to the inside of these dog runs and this a solid 4 star dog run. Also upgrade the ground cover to pea gravel or synthetic turf and you have yourself a potential 5 star dog run. This was my first visit to the newly relocated dog run; it was previously located in the back/northern section of the Duck Pond and was referred to as the "Bark Park" by residents who were bothered by the barking. It was relocated by the county after complaints. The Duck Pond dog park features two separate dog runs for smaller and larger dogs (25 lbs or less for the smaller run). The area is an all gravel area with ample trees that provide shade on a hot day. What I love about this dog run: -Large area for your dog to run around -Friendly dog owners -An incredible variety of beautiful dogs: Some days it looks like the Westminster Dog show here! Labrador retrievers, Doberman pincers, Burmese Mountain Dog, Shiba Inu, Vizsla, Rhodersian Ridgeback and there are 3 gorgeous Great Danes that look like prancing ponies who frequent this location. What I don't love: -No water source -No seating, no benches in the actual run.. There are beautiful stone benches outside the run where Moms and their toddlers/preschoolers will sit to watch all the dogs. It actually feels a little "Planet of the Apes" as you are behind bars with all these Moms and kids watching you and your dogs lol. Finally, there is a paved road that wraps around the entire Park Complex and the woods behind the dog run has a creek (the Saddle River) with a sandy/gravel beach that your dog can take a dip in to cool off after playing with some new friends.

Great place for kids to run around and release their energy. Ice cream truck and shaved ice truck on site. Good for the summer. The park playground is well maintained. Overall a great place for kids. Easily spend a day here.

First, the park probably has the LARGEST playground I've everrrrrr seen at a public park with multiple playgrounds WITHIN the playground itself. As you can imagine, it gets quite busy on nice weekend days. Surrounding the playground are many pavilions and picnic tables for those that want to have BBQs or large gatherings, which can be had with a permit. In addition to one of the best park playgrounds, the Bergen County Zoo resides inside of the park, which is free to EVERYONE during the colder months of the year. During the warmer months, there's a small fee for Bergen County residents and non-residents. If that's not enough, there is a miniature train ride that takes people around the entire park for a small fee. And, let me tell you first hand that the train ride is actually quite long at 5-7 minutes. Nearby, there is also a carousel that you can ride on for a fee. And, guess what?? There's even more! There is a barn with ponies that let's people ride the ponies for a fee as well. There are also jogging, walking and biking paths too along with a few tennis courts. Besides all of the permanent amenities, there are also events during different times of the year including the Winter Wonderland, which ... surprise, surprise ... takes place during the winter months. If you're worried about parking, no sweat, there are multiple large lots inside of the park, so once you arrive you can start your day asap. Like I said, DEFINITELY one of the best public parks in all of NJ.
