There aren't many of the motels with the neon signs left anymore. The ones that are left do look super cool at night and are very well-maintained. You'll still see cars, cruising up and down route 66. Some of them are really nice older models. The locals are nice for the most part. I'm really sad that the car museum is not here anymore. That's a huge fail in my opinion. How could they let that happen? Hence, the 3 stars.

On October 11, 2025, there was quite a bit of construction going on in the area. This road construction did not deter us from making a pit stop and walking our dog around for a bit. My youngest threw away trash that someone had stuck in the arching sign. Proud of her for that. The locomotive donated to this park was built back in 1906. Clovis's railroad heritage lives on... you will definitely hear and feel active trains just a hop and a skip nearby.

The trail behind the small center leads down to the quarry area and to an enclosed exhibit. The enclosed exhibit covers an excavated area showing all levels and exposed fossils/ bones. Signs tell you which layers and time period you are looking at. The trail leads around the quarry with interpretive signs along the way. Inside the center there are a few interpretive posters and fossils that give you a little information before the trail. The information could be better and more straight forward so I would suggest reading about the site history ahead of time or going to the museum in town first for better background information. There is also a gift shop inside the center. Pro tip: It was very hot the day we went (95 degrees) and we were out mid-day. I suggest getting here as early as possible, wearing lots of sunscreen, and long sleeves. They do worn you about rattle snakes so closed toed shoes are best. A porta-potty was located on the trail.

As you're leaving Amarillo proper and heading into the Panhandle Infinity, you'll see this Mesa off in the distance on Tascosa Road. Off-white panels have been symmetrically lined up across the upper portion of the mesa - and if the background sky is the same color, the top of the mesa will appear to be levitating. But even if Mother Nature isn't playing along (and the sky was too blue during my visit - as if that's a bad thing) you can still appreciate it. Ironically this is probably the artwork that is the easiest of all the Stanley Marsh 3 installations to grasp, but it's location is so obscure that it just sits/floats there for those of us pilgrims fortunate enough to discover.
