White Rock Park - Indiana in a nutshell

If you didn't know about the park, you would have never have found it. White Rock Paul is in…read moreabsolute nowhere and is definitely a full day trip. It took my friends and I two trips to be successful. The first day was on a Sunday and we were turned around since the park had met capacity. This is why I am giving it 4 out of 5. There should really be an update on Facebook or the website when they meet capacity since the majority of us are hours away. Anyways, second time going was succesful. We went on a Thursday and got there early so we knew we were good. Prices were $15/person and the staff were great with directing cars on where to go and giving instructions on where to sign waivers/pay. You could also rent a lifejacket if needed. The park itself was great. There were several places to jump, ziplines, and a rope swing. As well as platforms to hang out on and watch others jump. The quarry is also deep! I HIGHLY recommend bringing something to float on or hang onto while you are hanging out in the water. Even strong swimmers will benefit from a floatie. The water is deep and you could easily wear yourself out treading water. Plus, everyone has a floatie and you don't look cool because you don't have one. It stressed me out (as a lifeguard of 10 years) to see many people not holding on to something. There are guards there, but truly - know your limits! Wear shoes! Rocks surround the quarry and it isn't easy to walk on. We all wore sandals with straps so we wouldn't lose them We brought in our snacks & drinks with a picnic blanket and it made a huge difference. Maps- I had read that this place was hard to find on a lot of reviews. However, google maps was dead on, minus the closed bridge. I found it twice going once from Indy and once from Brown County. Otherwise, we had a great day. No lines of any sort. I did not do the 30 ft jump, no way! But watched a lot of others hit all the spots. Would go back & would love to see a capacity update for next time!

Nice place, a few little fishing holes. Overall can't complain kids enjoyed themselvesread more

I was a little bit nervous about signing up to do a 3k event in November, however, the opportunity…read morepresented itself and I knew I'd be able to visit a park I'd never been to before. Flat Fork Creek Park is part of Fishers Parks. Located at 101st and Cyntheanne Road, Flat Fork Creek Park offers just over 60 acres of relaxing fun for just about everyone in the family including a good amount of ADA accessibility. First off, you'll get a 60-foot sledding hill here. That's good to know as we inch toward winter. It's the tallest point in Hamilton County. There's also a 1.25 mile progressive mountain bike course that offers features for both mountain biking newbies and those with more experience. There's a beautiful fishing pond - state license required except for those 17 and under. Nearly 20 acres in the park are reforestation areas and there's a shelter with picnic tables that can be rented. Okay, that accessibility I mentioned? The 3k I did was a relatively small group, though it was centered around disability and had several disabled participants. The park includes an ADA accessible treehouse, a paved multi-use trail, and a boardwalk (I would note that while the boardwalk is, indeed, accessible, you do want to be a tad careful due to the side of the boardwalk that do offer a bit of a drop-off). You know what I think is really cool? They've created a ramp here so that even those with mobility issues can get to the top of the sledding hill - in most parks, that's an afterthought. As a side note, Fishers has won awards for their inclusion work and this park really shows it. This is really just a lovely park. You're not going to find a playground or other frequent park features, however, this beautiful park does a nice job of including everyone and weaving together nature with fun park adventures. This was my first time here. It won't be my last.

I love taking my dog here for a walk or going alone just to watch the sun set. The park is spacious and clean and overall a great experience. If it were closer to me I'd probably go daily.

They have 3 hiking trails, all about 1 mile in length, along with a biking trail, and the car tour. The car tour is $3.00, which isn't bad since you're helping to support a small sanctuary. The driveway from Elks Road takes you to the Nature Center. They have classes concerning plants, animals, and birds. They also have an observation room with an outdoor feeder where you can sit and watch animals and birds. Just outside the front (west) entrance of the Nature Center, there is the start of the car tour. If you've paid your $3.00, you'll receive a token to release the gate. Far back within the woods, along Hayes Arboretum Road, you'll see the archway for the never built Morton High School, a symbol of better times for this area. The hiking trails take you through the hills, across the streams and springs, and through at least 200 spider webs. I'm sure I'll be cleaning them off through next Tuesday. The place has a lot to offer and the naturalists have some great knowledge they'd love to share. In fact, education is a great service they provide. I can recall taking various classes on summer mornings and walking not only through the arboretum but other selected reserves, learning about life and living creatures. It's a great way to step ahead of your classmates in high school biology. If you haven't been out there, take a visit. If you enjoy a drive through the woods, support them with your $3.00. It's a good diversion from the electronic world.

The lake itself is a little more than 5,000 Acres which is then surrounded by about 11,000 Acres of woods and picnic areas. Our main focus is fishing it is what we love to do. We were able to get out fishing about a week ago as the weather had turned nice. In the summer months the lake does get pretty busy with boaters and skiers. The first time this year we got out and caught 19 crappie and one catfish. That lake is full of catfish. We catch enough fish in the lake over the course of the fishing season to feed our family and extended family for the year. You can also find campgrounds here and you can reserve them through the Indiana DNR website. There are also hiking trails through the woods. Plenty to do if you want to get away for a week or a weekend.
