Given that I am in a new town for a month, I figured I would explore my surroundings. My pup was due for a much needed long walk filled with sights and sounds to stimulate her senses as I was kind of cooped up in the house I was staying in in Saint Albans, Vermont. Don't get me wrong, there was a park or two in Saint Albans, but the major one (Taylor Park) was a bit of a walk aways. It was beautiful with a vast expanse of open land and they held a Farmer's Market there in the Spring, but it was at a distance from where I was, so I didn't frequent there as much. The park I am reviewing now is 9 minute walk from the apartment I am staying at. This park was absolutely amazing and rivals that of AD Barnes Park and Tropical Park in Miami, FL where I grew up but Riley Park is like ten times better! As I entered, I didn't expect much except some large canopy trees, oak trees, birds, and maybe on occassion running into some butterflies, and following down a winding path. As I kept moving forward, I first cane across some very well kempt tennis courts and it wasn't like one or two only but like 7 or 8 and on top of that they offer free tennis cardio classes on Sunday to the community. That was like the first tally mark in my mind in terms of Yelp checkmarks. The park itself continued to seem very clean. There wasn't a surplus of dog poo everywhere or debris or litter of any kind. I then happened upon some more greenery and then what I came to learn was a bike park. This was thee coolest thing I have ever seen at a park. Guests can practice for free I assume on the turf. What made it so sppealing to me was that the gravel itself was super new and dark and also well kempt. Whoever the custodians are for this park deserve to be recognized because this park is at least 40 acres I read online! So the bike park/ramps weren't the only astonishing thing abiut this place. As I made my way around, there was also this bridge that connected to another more elevated area of the park (so please be mindful if you are someone that has trouble walking up steps or hilly areas to be careful). It was a beautiful red bridge kind of like one you would see in the woods somewhere in New England. It sat atop a bumbling brook where moss, ferns, and probably some other creatures one can't see would traverse. Once yoh make your way across the bridge, there was an acquatic park, yes, an actually water park with a pool. If I recall correctly it is named The Kathy Dowling Acquatic Center but don't quote me on it. I didn't get a full view of it as I didn't know if I could bring my dog to that area, so I refrained as I wanted to abide by park rules/policies. I walked paat it but I could see a few large colorful closed tube water slide. The kid in me would have totally gone on one of those lol but I wasn't in proper attire to do so. Plus, I aas walking my dog. What made the walk more fun were the woodland type creatures I encountered along the way like the squirrels my dog would try to chase, some ducks floating in the pond, and dragonflies (as well as beautiful butterflies of course). I had to get a better view of the ducks because I love ducks, birds, penguins, blue jays, etc. They were all huddled and congregated together and I didn't wish to disturb them but it's been awhile since I have seen a majestic Mallard. There were some pretty tall trees in the area as well near that pond as well as a Rock Garden. I liked how they had descriptions of the various landmarks or designated rest areas as you mKe your way around the park. So by this point, I had almost made my way around the park. There were some playground areas for kids with swings and slides that seem like perfect play areas for birthday parties. I am sure they probably have some covered shelter areas to host parties as well or other types of gatherings. I am not sure if they would be free to use or cost money to rent. I passed by a basketball court as well. Another cool area that I had to take a photo of was the skate park. I couldn't believe they have one to use, and for free. Now I myself don't skateboard (I tried to many years ago as a kid but failed lol) but I just was so amazed that these places were available to use for free! My jaunt continued to another brook/pond area as my dog insisted on sniffing around there . She is mighty persistent and she must have really loved the park as she urged me to take her around it again for a second time This time though, I got to see things I didn't notice the first time and yes this was all on the same day. It was probably about a 45-60 min walk tops but I didn't mind as it wasn't super hot or raining and I needed the exercise. I used to walk around parks or grassy areas or jog a lot more and have stopped in recent years, but it was so nice to be in nature, I obliged. I noticed they had these signs with stakes in the ground called "postcards" where they would highlight a major milestone in the parks history. It was a nice added touch. read more

Riley Park is considered Greenfield, Indiana's feature park. It has 40 acres of open grassy areas, Brandywine Creek, athletic courts, a skate park, the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center and Splash Pad, picnic areas, a couple of playgrounds, and paved walking areas. It actually houses Greenfield's Parks and Rec. Dept., the Patricia Elmore Senior Center, the Old Log Jail, and the Chapel in the Park Museum. The park is one of nine in Greenfield. You can rent Riley Park Pavilion, Riley Pavilion East, the aquatic center, and the splash pad pavilion. Like most public parks, it's open dawn to dusk daily. Activities include fishing, disc golf, basketball, skating, walking, pickleball, tennis, swimming, a sled hill, water fountains, public restrooms, and programs for all ages. A surprising amount of the park would easily be considered ADA friendly. In 2022, the park's 85-year-old shelter house was destroyed by a fire. It's now being rebuilt in addition to multiple other upgrades. The park has been undergoing multiple renovations in anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2025. The pavilion has gotten an upgrade along with the restrooms and playground. The Greenfield Baseball Little League moved out of the park - this freed up the space used by five baseball diamonds. There's plans for a dedicated children's zone on the south end and a teen zone on the north end (by the Hancock Boys and Girls Clubs). The teen zone will feature a skate park and multi-sport synthetic playing field. There's also plans for a pump track. Riley Park is, of course, named after James Whitcomb Riley and was dedicated on 10/7/25 - what would have been his 76th birthday. The acclaimed poet was born and raised in Greenfield and the city continues his legacy at multiple locations. read more

This park is a diamond in the rough. It is a hidden gem. It spans about 40 acres and has just about everything you want in a park. There is a lot of pockets of green space to hold a picnic, play catch, or host a soccer/football game. The park also has 4 tennis courts(2 sets of 2) near the front that are in pretty good shape. Near the tennis courts are the pickleball courts. The courts are in pretty good shape and has two sets of 3 for a total of six in a fenced in area. There is also two full basketball courts that are in decent shape and looked to be made from pretty durable equipment. They are both fenced in so you don't have to chase missed shots. You will find a small skate park here that has metal ramps, stairs, boxes and rails. It is also fenced in. If you are looking to eat and hang out, there are picnic tables on cement slabs, one of which has a grill next to it. They are in a well shaded area which makes sitting out there a little more bearable on a hot sunny day. If sitting under a cover is more your thing, there are a couple of shelters, one near the buildings up front and one near the back, they have picnic tables under them and one has a grill next to it. They can be reserved. The park has a small creek that flows through it and there are a couple of bridges that you can use to cross it. Disc golf anyone? This park has a very nice nine hole disc golf course. The park has 2 playgrounds. They both have some nice equipment. There is a small playground located next to the picnic shelter near the back of the park. It consists of a small jungle gym with a couple of slides and monkey bars and a small bank of swings. It is on a bed of wood chips. The equipment is in good shape. The much larger playground is located near the front of the park between the parks private parking lot (across the creek) and the historical buildings. It is laid on a bed of wood chips. The equipment is older, but in great shape. The playground is divided into 2 areas, equipment for larger kids and smaller kids. The larger kid area has a large jungle gym with slides, bridges and monkey bars. There is also a rocking see saw, a sit and spin, a sand pit, a tire tower, and a large bank of traditional swings. The park's restroom is in this area and the facilities are nice and get the job done. The smaller kids area has a small jungle gym with a slide a little wooden house and an expression swing. This is an awesome park. It is traditional and not like the new mega parks. It has a nature vibe and you will find everything you would want in a park and more. It is definitely worth being a destination park and you could easily spend a day here. It is well maintained and well kept and I highly recommend checking this park out. This is a nice park with a nice playground. And that's pretty much the most important part about a park if you're a parent, right? The playground? If you're a parent, who really cares about anything else except the playground and maybe the bathrooms, and whether there's a pond nearby to feed the duckies. (There is a pond near the playground, with really loud ducks.) If you're not a parent: There are other features about this park that I didn't get to see because I was stuck at the playground, so sorry about my shoddy review. There are actually two playgrounds here: one playground for kids around 2 years old to 5 years old, and another playground for ages 6 and up. Both playgrounds are super fun, and both have wood chips all around on the ground. There are slides, swings, bridges, towers and tunnels. It's a very fun playground for kids. A really cool feature of this park is that there's a tire tower, as well as a frolf course (frisbee golf). There are bathrooms here, and they were moderately clean. There was lots of parking, as well as old trees that provided lots of shaded areas. read more

Very nice facility for my granddaughters 1st Birthday party. Everything was clean, and all amenities offered were in good condition and in good working order. Su0er nice having a kitchen (stove, frig, microwave), lots of counter space...and Hot water. I know that sounds weird but it was cold outside, windy, rainy and having hot water to do dishes was very nice. The actual room for the party was HUGE which was a pleasant surprise. Great park. Allot of stuff to do there, and the atmosphere is very nice too. The park layout is a little confusing, and it can get a bit busy depending on the time and day of the week, but that might not be that big of a problem to some people. read more

This park has all kinds of amenities, from sport courts, to a skate park, disc golf, a couple playgrounds, and even historic museums (jail and chapel). There are wooded areas, paved walking trails, and open spaces. Shelters and picnic tables and a gazebo are available for visitors too! The park is bisected by Brandywine Creek and the park has added a really nice footbridge to allow visitors to easily cross. And most of the time, the creek is an asset. But after heavy rains, much of the low, flat ground is overrun by the creek. During my visit two days after such an occurrence, much of the open space had standing water and even the road into the park from the southwest side of the park was underwater. The tennis courts showed signs of debris that had flowed over the court only to be deposited there. So, be mindful of weather conditions when considering using this park. Ahh! Riley park is an amazing place in Greenfield to go and play or just enjoy nature. It's so calm with hearing the birds chirping and kids enjoying their lives. This place has a playset for kids, a river, basketball courts, tennis courts, pickleball courts, Gaga ball pit, flying discs and skateboard ramps. People love to see the cute little fish swim around in the river. Me and my family always go there and it's such an enjoyable time. My brothers love basketball and they have big courts there, so if you know someone who loves playing basketball definitely have them try it out! The trails around the park are great and clean and there is a big hill for sledding in the winter time! So much fun for everyone! You can go so fast and that's how a lot of people like it. It's so beautiful with leaves everywhere and the big red bridge going across the river! This park is different from any other. It's a beautiful site and I love hearing the kids having fun in the background. It puts a big smile on my face every time I go because you can really see what nature is at this place. Bringing a sandwich and eating in the picnic areas just brings me happiness and I'm sure it would you too. Riley Park is named after James Whitcomb Riley! A person that Greenfield looks up too. It's a very important park to our city. There are beautiful flowers around and it is just a great park overall. The photo taking is endless! You guys should definitely check this place out, you will not regret it at all. -ID This park is very big and has many options of entertainment, making it a great place for kids (and adults too). It has 2 playgrounds, a basketball court, a skatepark, and many other things. There's a big hill there as well, which is a popular place to go sledding. A river runs through the park area near the playgrounds, and there's a lot of trees throughout the park, which provide nice scenery. Near the top there's the pool and a splash pad (and a small playground next to it) which makes it easy for kids to get there during the summer. Overall I rate it 4.5 stars, and I recommend others to go there if you haven't. -NF Riley park is an amazing place. It is normally surrounded by people. There's probably people everywhere I look. My favorite place is the basketball courts where me and my friends are mostly at. We do so many fun things like play basketball, talk, and overall just have fun. This place looks surprisingly good considering according to google it has been up since 1886. I have visited there many times including by myself, with friends, and for the boys and girls club. Every time I am there it seems to get more beautiful every single time. Just to add in it's not all about games there are picnic benches for picnics or eating and there are even trails throughout if you want to walk around. They named the place after an author who wrote children's books named James Riley. My experience has always been great when I'm there. It's super fun every single time and there are never enough possibilities there and it is guaranteed to put a smile on your face as well as mine. -AL Riley Park has a big blue slide and rainbow slide. I like Riley park because you can basically do whatever you want and it's for all ages. One time when me and my family went, I saw a group of teenagers at the basketball court and some at the skateboard court. As I sat on the swing my brothers went and played at the smaller playground. There were old people walking on a trail and people walking their dogs. But the one thing that sucks when going there if something is broken it takes forever to fix it.
