Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge - Bison area ahead!

Fun way to spend a couple hours! From driving around the Arsenal looking for bison and the rest of…read morethe animals, to parking in one of the lots and taking a walk around. My family and I have often visited this area as it's really close to where we live. We've driven family and friends many times, walked around the lakes, and even had family photos taken! Besides all those wonderful things, there's also a cool visitor center. Lots of information, a Bison figure, bathrooms, and a nice Discovery Room for children! Behind the Visitor Center is the Ferret Exhibit! Don't forget to take a stroll outside past the garden to visit the little friends. You can also go inside!

What an absolutely lovely experience. I went twice during a 1 week stay in the Denver area!…read more There are tons of walking trails that are so peaceful. Signs and maps were easy to follow. I went in early March and there were so many birds. The immediate scenery is flat prairie but you can walk around a couple lakes and the mountains in the distance are cool. We did the wildlife drive and got to see some bison fairly close. Would definitely recommend listening the the podcast while you drive along. The visitor's center is well done and the staff were nice and friendly. Overall would highly recommend for anyone wanting a nice peaceful walk in nature or to see the bison!

Barr Lake State Park - Beautiful Tuesday at Barr Lake State park

Great experience at the Barr Lake State Park that is part of the Keep Colorado Wild Pass. When I…read morearrived there wasn't a person at the entrance booth but there is a kiosk if you need to purchase a pass. Since I have KPW pass, I just showed it to the ranger when I saw him. My adventure was to paddleboard on Barr Lake and there is a mandatory boat inspection, I was not sure if qualify for the inspection so I proceeded to the inspection area. Unfortunately, there was nobody at the inspection area but there was instructions and phone number. The ranger I spoke to on the phone was great and explained that I did not need the inspection of my inflatable paddleboard. There are places that require SUPs and kayaks to be inspected hence I called. Somehow I missed the fact that south side of the lake is closed because it is a wildlife refuge fortunately there are buoys that mark the off limit areas. Overall the State Park staff that I interacted with, on the phone and in person, were awesome (might have been the same person, not sure). I strongly recommend reviewing the information at the entrance or check out the Park Brochure on the CPW website.

I'm a San Diego native and yes it's home but Colorado has my heart. When you arrive at Barr Lake there is an entrance fee but it was minimal. I purchased the park pass. It was worth it. When you drive through the gate the speed is slow because there are multiple parking lots and turn off areas and pedestrians so keep an eye out. I drove to the last lot where the information center is and had no problem finding a parking spot. There were several people and groups already there and setting off on their walk. I joined them. It was a clear October day in 2020 and I was excited to walk and gawk and snap pictures. I walked about for over three hours and met some lovely people. I believe I snapped over 200 shots that day. It's one of my all time favourite places in Colorado.

Nice neighborhood nature area with picnic tables…read more If you running early for a flight outta KDEN great place to have the kids burn off energy Unique playground equipment

Looking for a nature inspired park? This is the place to go!…read more This is a nice 6-acre neighborhood park with a few activities available. There are walking trails, a play area, & an exploration area. This is not your typical plastic play equipment type of playground. In fact, it all blends into the landscape so fantastically well! It looks so natural, which was the goal, so kudos to everyone who imagined and made this park what it is! There are three separate play areas: 1) basket swings are suspended between large beams 2) jungle gym with a small climbing rock, a climbing net, and a couple of thick ropes 3) a large "fallen" tree trunk for climbing on The play equipment was made by: Handcrafted Nature's Instruments. Within this First Creek Park is the First Creek Exploration Play Zone. This Exploration Play Zone is what I came to check out. It is a little section which facilitates discovery and learning. More parks could set aside a small area like this! There are signs with suggestions, information, and question prompts. It's pretty cool! There are benches in the shade near the exploration area. This park has no restrooms and no parking lot that I could locate. I parked in the residential street near the end of E. 54th Avenue. Read the parking signs to make sure you're legally parked. I didn't explore every corner of this park, so I look forward to seeing other people's pictures of what I missed!

Chautauqua Auditorium is being renovated and winterized…read more It had been needed before this as another concert venue in Boulder would have been appreciated sooner but once Boulder won Sundance it became a necessity. But when you come in the summer it will still look the same. A removable heated tent will be erected inside and heated by geothermal heat from underneath that will be transferred underground from the dining hall kitchen's surplus stored energy. So modern in such an old structure. So when you visit this spring there is a lot of truck traffic and digging and detours around the building but you can see from the last picture, the green and the view of the Flatirons are undisturbed.

Today was especially fun because we brought her friend Vincent. My daughter has grown up in Colorado hiking skiing doing all the Colorado things and it's just so emotional seeing her finally making it up to the royal arch for the very first time . We've done Sequoia national Park trails and Yosemite trails but royal arch has so many different parts to it hike it is a lot shorter than a lot of national park trails but it's more challenging in. There are a lot of boulders to crawl up and down from and a lot of tight squeeze places to get to the most amazing view you have ever seen. Very worth it please come ! Unfortunately, this hike is not for unexperienced hikers to go alone please bring a friend who has done it before or has hiking experience. I would not recommend taking your very small children up here or elderly that are not athletic. They simply won't enjoy their time again. It's very challenging for a lot of people. Please do not let this discourage young adult adults that are healthy and whole. If you have never hiked before, but are an avid runner you will be able to make it up here. Just make sure you bring a snack and whatever you bring up bring down. Do not leave trash anywhere.
