My 17 year old kitty needed help getting to the Rainbow Bridge. She was suffering from kidney disease and had a heart murmur. She was down to 3 pounds and it was clear it was time to let her go, she lost the use of her back legs, etc. The wonderful doctor came to the house to assist her in crossing over. I don't remember her name, 11/22 was a difficult day for me. We utilized Dr Renee Bufkin for end of life care/in home euthanasia in 2019. I didn't realize I hadn't written a review of our experience until I recently recommended Dr Bufkin to a friend. Dr Bufkin was exactly who we needed at exactly the right time. Our kitty was ready to go but there was no way I was going to put her in a carrier, drive her to the vet, and make her last hour stressful and miserable. I called my Vet, VCA Feline Medical Center, and they provided me with the information for Dr Bufkin. I called her right away and she came same day. Most of the experience is a blur and something I don't want to remember, BUT I do remember opening my door to Dr Bufkin and receiving the biggest hug filled with so much compassion and comfort. A stranger. Not my vet. And it was exactly what I needed. She came in, assessed the situation, explained what was going to happen, and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The grief that occurs with the loss of a pet is significant. Should you find yourself in need of end of life services for your pet, do yourself a favor and call Dr Bufkin. Dr. Sarah Wilson is the absolute best. She looked over our beloved Hurley in his senior years and helped him cross the bridge. She was so supportive, gentle and kind during the hardest 2 weeks of our life. She handled everything and even gave us hugs. On the day of Hurley's passing she even brought him McDonald's french fries as his last meal. We were so impressed and felt so taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Wilson enough. This review is for a physical exam, not an in-home euthanasia. Maybe that's where all the 5 starts came from? Maybe I caught the vet at a bad time. But my experience definitely could have been better. Pluses: -She answered the phone when I called and made it easy to schedule a home visit -Dr. Bufkin came to my house the next day! (for an extra $65 fee) and did show up -She and her assistant were mostly good at communicating, especially via text, which I appreciated -She did identify a heart murmur my vet had heard, so at least I got what I needed from the appointment -Dr. Bufkin did send the invoice and treatment notes and when they were very wrong, she did work hard to correct the problem and apologized Minuses: -Dr. Bufkin was unable to make it during a scheduled 8-11:30 am window of time or let me know when she might be arriving -When I texted for an update, she called me about 10 minutes later and proceeded to tell me that we had to discuss things first on the phone because she had a piano lesson at 12:30 so she didn't have much time once she got to my house - Because she was rushed, my cat was ready to play. He doesn't wriggle at the vet's office, but was super wriggly with Dr. Bufkin and she had to scruff him to listen to his heart. He is a really sweet friendly cat and that is usually never necessary. I know it didn't hurt him but it sure wasn't the relaxing in-home visit I expected/paid for -Did I menton super rushed? Luckily I didn't need a lot of time - really just needed a heart murmur confirmed - but man that's a lot of money for a tiny amount of time ($85 house call fee, $60 exam and I paid $65 for the next day appointment...or would have had to wait a month wondering). -I also paid a $6 fee to use a credit card for a $210 bill - a 3% transaction fee. OK...but are there other payment methods I could have used to avoid this? Could you have mentioned it in advance? And really...that's not built into the house call fee? Maybe this is normal but it just hit wrong. No time to ask questions because: rushed. -When she sent the medical records for me to submit to insurance, I opened the document to see a letter saying I'd had her come to the house for my cat to be euthanized (and asking for referrals!). This was really shocking and upsetting to read - obviously I knew my cat was ok but it just...felt horrible. Dr. Bufkin did work to figure out why this error occurred but that involved 1. another letter saying my cat was euthanized 2. ten (10) texts, multiple emails and a voicemail (I was in a meeting) to figure out. -The treatment notes had several pieces of inaccurate information about my cat and some weird discrepancies, like weights for him on two different days when she only came on one day (and did not weigh him so...). Fingers crossed my pet insurance doesn't care and reimburses me for at least part of this. At least they won't think he is euthanized now. There aren't a lot of mobile vet options and some never even got back to me. I know vets are insanely busy right now and Dr. Bufkin seemed nice and competent or I would have only given two stars. And thank goodness she eventually sent the right treatment notes. A discount would have been nice. Picture of my cat cozying up to my sister...Seriously, my cat sitter said he is the most friendly cat she's ever met. He is not stingy with the love. Definitely a somber to review experience. My boyfriend and I were told last week that one of his sweet, sweet pups had kidney disease. Often, it can be treated but in our case, we were not so lucky. We knew it was time to find end of life services for our fur baby. It was difficult, but we were out of options. The fur baby had recently spent three days at the ER vet and we couldn't subject him to a clinic again. He'd been terrified after being left before and taking him to a clinic felt wrong. Enter in, Vet to Pet. We were very worried about the pup's quality of life and Dr. Bufkin was able to accommodate us with haste. She was able to come to our home so we could say goodbye without our pup feeling terrified or panicked. We were grateful she made the process seamless and he was able to pass in comfort. While putting down an animal is a very emotionally hard thing to do, Dr. Bufkin was very professional and helped Shepard us through the process. She was very informational and told us what the expect step by step. She gave our pup a sedative and it felt like he slept until his last breath. There were some issues because our dog was so sick but she was able to make those bumps in the road smoother. Days later, she was thoughtful to even send us a condolence card. Originally, I did not want to write a review due to going through the motions... Dr. Bufkin's compassion and kindness compelled me to write her a review. I will always remember how she helped our boy get to Rainbow Bridge with dignity. My boyfriend and I wouldn't change a thing about the experience. Having our boy leave us in his home, while asleep brought us comfort. It will always be a hard memory but we are thankful for Dr. Bufkin taking off some of the edge. Update 4-15-21 We just got back our boy's ashes. The urn is a beautiful wooden box and there was a very kind card along with it. We have used Vet to Pet Mobile Veterinary service several times. We have always been extremely satisfied with their care. Today was a hard visit for us as we had to say goodbye to our almost 20 year old cat. Our cat was born at our home after rescuing a very pregnant stray. So, this was especially hard. Everything went well, our vet was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. We have always had to take our pets to the Vet ER which is so stressful for the animal. We are so very pleased that our cat wasn't nervous or worried at all. A very peaceful experience for him. I am amazed how reasonable this procedure was. Once in 2008 for Reba, again in 2010 for Jesse, and the latest, yesterday when my sweet Bailey needed help crossing The Rainbow Bridge. I love that they come to you and help you handle the arrangements. Most of us know the heartache that comes with having to make the choice to euthanize a fur baby. The love and compassion shown my Dr. Bufkin and Dr. Wilson is amazing. When your world is crumbling, they step in to help ease the suffering of a family member. I got in touch with this service a few days ago. Unfortunately I needed end of life care, and my sweet boy does not travel well. He was shy, and became very stressed in cars. I was so anxious thinking about how stressful it would be for him because his vet is all the way across down. He would be so scared in the office too. At home euthanasia would be the best option, and the most calming for him. I was treated so kindly by the staff and Dr. Renée. Although they were too busy the first day I was provided with an early morning slot the next day. He was struggling pretty bad at this point, so I made him as comfortable and happy as possible in the mean time. I was given much sympathy, and updates on her arrival to my home. She explained everything to me, was very patient and understanding of my situation. If you are going through the process of end of life, I highly recommend this service. It's heart breaking to lose a friend, and such a painful process. The ability to just be in the comfort of your home and give them that calming familiar environment is so worth it. Well, Poor Old Guy wasn't doing so well. It was clear after his last visit to the vet's that his pain was increasing and quality of life decreasing. It was time for my friends to make the difficult decision to let him go peacefully. Because of Poor Old Guy's painful inability to walk, my friends decided to pay more for having a mobile vet come to the house so he wouldn't have to suffer the agony of us having to transport him to the vet again. Ever try to schlep a 65 plus pound dog paralyzed by the waist down and in screaming agony from a house to a car and then to a vet? It is not pleasant. For the dog or the humans. Dr. Bufkin came to my friends' house and gently explained all the steps of what was going to happen. She made Poor Old Guy's final few moments as comfortable and as dignified as possible while all of us said our teary good-byes. He was surrounded by sunlight, love, his favorite bed, blankets, and toys, and he let go quietly and pain-free. What a gift to give to a four-legged friend, to die peacefully in his own home. Her service is not inexpensive, but she takes care of everything so you don't have to. Dr. Bufkin was respectful, caring, gentle from the moment she arrived. Thank you. read more

This is/was a blessing! I planed for my babies passing for a year, because I knew how sick she was. They couldn't make it until after 5 and I knew she'd pass sooner. They were compassionate and sympathetic to what we were going through. And after my baby passed in my loving arms they came within 20 mins to take her. To the place we choose to cremate her. They were very gentle and careful with my loving babies body and gave me lots of time (as much time as you need) before they took her. We are new to the area and are temporarily staying at the RV Park until our home is ready so we didn't have a veterinarian here. Dr. Bufkin came to our home to perform in home euthanasia for our very sick, old dog Caesar. The experience was everything I hoped it would be. Dr. Bufkin was able to help us meet the final needs of our aging dog, Patches. Over the last year his health had declined to the point where the only thing to do for him was to end his suffering and give him peace from his pain. I contacted Dr. Bufkin via email on a Sunday and received a text reply early the next morning. From that initial contact she was very kind, compassionate and professional. She explained options in detail, was quick to reply to my texts, kept me apprised of her ETA and arrived at our home on time. Once here, she was an outstanding example of empathy for both myself (giving me a hug when she knew I was having a tough time.) And for my dog, being very gentle during his exam and final procedure. She took the time to make sure I understood what was going on and what would happen at each stage of the procedure. Her mobile service is a Godsend. As it helped make my dog's passing easier, as we did not have to scare him with a long car ride and wait at a regular vets office. She also helped setting up his cremation. Something I was dreading. I can not recommend Dr. Bufkin highly enough. She took the worst time of my dogs life and helped him pass with respect, compassion and in such a way that he had no fear or pain. read more

I'm so sorry Raymond had such a bad experience at what is a very difficult time. I'm also surprised. When one of our cats was clearly nearing her end, I called our regular vets at Feline Medical Center in a bit of despair. My cat absolutely despised leaving the house for anything, especially the vet, and I didn't want her last moments on earth after 15 wonderful years to be filled with terror. They gave me Dr. Renee's number and she came over that day. She got the most recent health info on my kitty from our regular vet, checked our girl over, and confirmed our worst fears were true. At the time, my kids were probably 10 and 12 years old, so they grew up with our cats. Dr. Renee did an excellent job of explaining to them exactly what she was going to do and why and what the kitty's physical reaction might be. We then talked to them about whether they wanted to be present or not. My youngest did not, but my oldest did, and we were able to sit with our kitty on my lap and pet her while Dr. Renee very gently went about her sad task. She had such a light touch and was so calm and quiet, the cat barely even noticed her presence. She was purring as she glided off to sleep. Dr. Renee then took the time to talk to my kids about how honored we should be to be such a good kitty family that our cats would rather be at home than anywhere else, and she really helped them with the loss. A few days later, we received a condolence card from her. So, when we were faced with the loss of first kitty's sibling a few years later, we didn't think twice about calling Dr. Renee, and she was just as caring this time as she was before. Not only does she seem to calm my normally "skittish with strangers" cats, she was great with helping comfort my kids. When she first came in, the kids even showed her the memory stones they had made and placed over where we buried our first cat and told her about their plans for making stones for Kitty #2. We haven't needed her services for our new kitties - and hopefully won't for many years to come! - but have on occasion called her for small issues on our dog, things that I wanted checked out but didn't want to drag the dog down to the vet's and sit and wait. She even once gave us a "consult" over the phone for some odd hamster behavior! She has really met our needs on a number of tough occasions and we wouldn't hesitate to call her again. read more

Was very interested in vet to pet because f the convenience but their prices are way too much. After calling to make an appointment, I was told I would have to pay a 75$ mileage fee for them to travel 6 miles to my house (that's 12.50 a mile!). Their prices for exams and shots are comparable but if you want an appointment in the afternoon (after 2pm) it will cost you 25 to 75 extra for that as well. That is when I decided my vet clinic I used to go to (30 minutes away) would be a better choice. If you don't want to pay out the end for vet care, I would suggest you go somewhere else. I too am sorry about the poor review of Dr. Bufkin. However, I do understand so well why she felt the atmosphere to be too hostile for her. And, it wasn't helping the furry kid either! Anyway, I am writing to say that there couldn't be a better mobile vet ever! Her empathy and understanding and explanations were beyond wonderful! I had to have my "wild ones" euthanised: three of them as it turned out. I didn't know the third one was in the best area to catch him also. Dr. Bufkin is compassionate beyond measure and I so much appreciated her very presence during this extraordinarily difficult time for me and my husband. These three were my first attempt to socialize feral kittens: well, they had five good years strictly indoors that they would not have had otherwise. And they died with dignity and in peace as I got to hold them on my lap, finally and one last time ever. I could not have had this kind of high quality treatment of these fur-babies in a vets office. This was the best, most miraculous best, mobile vet experience. My first and no others will be able to compare with her care and concern and compassion. read more

I had to arrange to have my 15 year old dog down yesterday. For such a heart-wrenching ordeal, Dr. Renee Bufkin was wonderful. She was caring, empathetic and professional. She called ahead as we had requested so that we were able to remove our children from the house. Today I had to put down my cat who had been with me for 15 years. He deteriorated quickly and it became clear that euthanasia was the only reasonable course of action. My family has worked with Dr. Bufkin for four years and she immediately fit us in on a same day emergency basis. My cat was badly traumatized by a former vet when he was young and has not been to a vet's office in 13 years. Many vets refused to work with him because of his history. We were amazed that he took to Dr. Bufkin immediately and she was excellent with him. I saw that a previous reviewer was upset that Dr. Bufkin was late for a scheduled appointment. My guess would be that this was because Dr. Bufkin always takes the time needed with her patients. She is empathic, caring, very competent, and is not a "clock watcher". She takes the time needed for the appointment. My cats passing today was peaceful and beautiful and Dr. Bufkin was very kind to my cat and my family. I am very grateful I met her. If you understand the parameters of a mobile vet and that is what youre looking for then she's the best. Thank you for everything Dr. Bufkin. I have 3 beautiful cats and have been seeing Dr. Bufkin for years. The convenience of having her come to my home rather than lugging them across town in carriers in the car is priceless.
